1 E SALOMONE cominciò ad edificar la Casa del Signore in Gerusalemme, nel monte Moria, ch’era stato mostrato a Davide, suo padre, nel luogo che Davide avea apparecchiato, cioè, nell’aia di Ornan Gebuseo.

King David, Solomon's father, had already prepared a place for the Temple. It was in Jerusalem, on Mount Moriah, where the Lord appeared to David, at the place which Araunah the Jebusite had used as a threshing place. King Solomon began the construction
2 Ed egli cominciò ad edificare nel secondo giorno del secondo mese, l’anno quarto del suo regno.

in the second month of the fourth year that he was king.
3 Or queste sono le misure della pianta del disegno di Salomone, per edificar la Casa di Dio; la lunghezza era di sessanta cubiti di prima misura; e la larghezza di venti.

The Temple which King Solomon built was 90 feet long and 30 feet wide.
4 E il Portico, ch’era in capo della lunghezza della Casa, in fronte della larghezza di essa, era di venti cubiti; e l’altezza era di centoventi cubiti; e Salomone lo coperse di dentro d’oro puro.

The entrance room was the full width of the Temple, 30 feet, and was 180 feet high. The inside of the room was overlaid with pure gold.
5 E coperse la Casa grande di legno di abete; e disopra la coperse d’oro puro, e fece fare sopra essa delle palme, e delle intralciature.

The main room was paneled with cedar and overlaid with fine gold, in which were worked designs of palm trees and chain patterns.
6 Coperse anche la Casa di pietre preziose per ornamento; e quell’oro era oro di Parvaim.

The king decorated the Temple with beautiful precious stones and with gold imported from the land of Parvaim.
7 Così coperse d’oro la Casa, le travi, gli stipiti, e le pareti, e gli usci di essa; e fece intagliar de’ Cherubini sopra le pareti.

He used the gold to overlay the Temple walls, the rafters, the entryways, and the doors. On the walls the workers carved designs of winged creatures.
8 Fece eziandio il luogo Santissimo, la cui lunghezza era di venti cubiti, al pari della larghezza della Casa; e la larghezza di venti cubiti; e lo coperse d’oro fino, che ascendeva fino alla somma di seicento talenti.

The inner room, called the Most Holy Place, was 30 feet long and 30 feet wide, which was the full width of the Temple. Twenty-five tons of gold were used to cover the walls of the Most Holy Place;
9 E il peso de’ chiodi ascendeva a cinquanta sicli d’oro. Coperse eziandio d’oro le sale.

twenty ounces of gold were used for making nails, and the walls of the upper rooms were also covered with gold.
10 Fece ancora nel luogo Santissimo due Cherubini di lavoro di statuario, e furono coperti d’oro.

The king also had his workers make two winged creatures out of metal, cover them with gold, and place them in the Most Holy Place,
11 E le ale de’ Cherubini aveano venti cubiti di lunghezza; una delle ale avea cinque cubiti di lunghezza, e toccava la parete della Casa; e l’altra avea parimente cinque cubiti, e toccava l’ala dell’altro Cherubino.

where they stood side by side facing the entrance. Each had two wings, each wing 7 1/2 feet long, which were spread out so that they touched each other in the center of the room and reached to the wall on either side of the room, stretching across the full width of 30 feet.
12 Così anche una delle ale dell’altro Cherubino avea cinque cubiti, e toccava la parete della Casa; e l’altra avea parimente cinque cubiti, e giungeva all’ala dell’altro Cherubino.
13 Le ale di questi Cherubini si spandevano per venti cubiti; ed essi erano in piè, e le facce loro erano volte verso il di dentro dalla Casa.
14 Fece ancora la Cortina di violato, e di porpora, e di scarlatto, e di bisso; e fece far sopra essa de’ Cherubini.

A curtain for the Most Holy Place was made of linen and of other material, which was dyed blue, purple, and red, with designs of the winged creatures worked into it.
15 E, per metter davanti alla Casa, fece due colonne, che aveano di lunghezza trentacinque cubiti; e i capitelli ch’erano in cima di ciascuna di esse, erano di cinque cubiti.

The king had two columns made, each one 52 feet tall, and placed them in front of the Temple. Each one had a capital 7 1/2 feet tall.
16 Ora, come egli avea fatte delle intralciature nell’oracolo, così ancora ne mise in cima delle colonne. Fece anche cento melegrane, le quali mise fra quelle intralciature.

The tops of the columns were decorated with a design of interwoven chains and one hundred bronze pomegranates.
17 E rizzò le colonne davanti al Tempio, una a man destra, e l’altra a sinistra; e pose nome a quella ch’era a man destra: Iachin, ed a quella ch’era a sinistra: Boaz.

The columns were set at the sides of the Temple entrance: the one on the south side was named Jachin and the one on the north side was named Boaz.
