1 Habló David las palabras de este cántico al SEÑOR el día que el SEÑOR lo libró de la mano de todos sus enemigos y de la mano de Saúl.

2 Y dijo: El SEÑOR es mi roca, mi baluarte y mi libertador;

3 mi Dios, mi roca en quien me refugio; mi escudo y el cuerno de mi salvación, mi altura inexpugnable y mi refugio; salvador mío, tú me salvas de la violencia.

4 Invoco al SEÑOR, que es digno de ser alabado, y soy salvo de mis enemigos.

5 Las ondas de la muerte me cercaron, los torrentes de iniquidad me atemorizaron;

6 los lazos del Seol me rodearon, las redes de la muerte surgieron ante mí.

7 En mi angustia invoqué al SEÑOR, sí, clamé a mi Dios; desde su templo oyó mi voz, y mi clamor llegó a sus oídos.

8 Entonces la tierra se estremeció y tembló, los cimientos de los cielos temblaron y fueron sacudidos, porque El se indignó.

9 Humo subió de su nariz, y el fuego de su boca consumía; carbones fueron por él encendidos.

10 Inclinó también los cielos, y descendió con densas tinieblas debajo de sus pies.

11 Cabalgó sobre un querubín, y voló; y apareció sobre las alas del viento.

12 De tinieblas hizo pabellones a su alrededor, abundantes aguas, densos nubarrones.

13 Del fulgor de su presencia ascuas de fuego se encendieron.

14 Tronó el SEÑOR desde los cielos, y el Altísimo dio su voz.

15 Y envió saetas, y los dispersó, relámpagos, y los confundió.

16 Entonces los abismos del mar aparecieron, los cimientos del mundo quedaron al descubierto, por la reprensión del SEÑOR, por el soplo del aliento de su nariz.

17 Extendió la mano desde lo alto y me tomó; me sacó de las muchas aguas.

18 Me libró de mi poderoso enemigo, de los que me aborrecían, pues eran más fuertes que yo.

19 Se enfrentaron a mí el día de mi infortunio, mas el SEÑOR fue mi sostén.

20 También me sacó a un lugar espacioso; me rescató, porque se complació en mí.

21 El SEÑOR me ha premiado conforme a mi justicia; conforme a la pureza de mis manos me ha recompensado.

22 Porque he guardado los caminos del SEÑOR, y no me he apartado impíamente de mi Dios.

23 Pues todas sus ordenanzas estaban delante de mí, y en cuanto a sus estatutos, no me aparté de ellos.

24 También fui íntegro para con El, y me guardé de mi iniquidad.

25 Por tanto el SEÑOR me ha recompensado conforme a mi justicia, conforme a mi pureza delante de sus ojos.

26 Con el benigno te muestras benigno, con el hombre íntegro te muestras íntegro;

27 con el puro eres puro, y con el perverso eres sagaz.

28 Salvas al pueblo afligido, pero tus ojos están sobre los altivos a quienes tú humillas.

29 Porque tú eres mi lámpara, oh SEÑOR; el SEÑOR alumbra mis tinieblas.

30 Pues contigo aplastaré ejércitos, con mi Dios escalaré murallas.

31 En cuanto a Dios, su camino es perfecto; acrisolada es la palabra del SEÑOR; El es escudo a todos los que a El se acogen.

32 Pues ¿quién es Dios, fuera del SEÑOR? ¿Y quién es roca, sino sólo nuestro Dios?

33 Dios es mi fortaleza poderosa, y el que pone al íntegro en su camino.

34 El hace mis pies como de ciervas, y me afirma en mis alturas.

35 El adiestra mis manos para la batalla, y mis brazos para tensar el arco de bronce.

36 Tú me has dado también el escudo de tu salvación, y tu ayuda me engrandece.

37 Ensanchas mis pasos debajo de mí, y mis pies no han resbalado.

38 Perseguí a mis enemigos y los destruí, y no me volví hasta acabarlos.

39 Los he consumido y los he destrozado, y no pudieron levantarse; cayeron debajo de mis pies.

40 Pues tú me has ceñido con fuerza para la batalla; has subyugado debajo de mí a los que contra mí se levantaron.

41 También has hecho que mis enemigos me vuelvan las espaldas, y destruí a los que me odiaban.

42 Clamaron, mas no hubo quién los salvara; aun al SEÑOR clamaron, mas no les respondió.

43 Entonces los pulvericé, como polvo de la tierra, como lodo de las calles los trituré y los pisé.

44 Tú me has librado también de las contiendas de mi pueblo; me has guardado para ser cabeza de naciones; pueblo que yo no conocía me sirve.

45 Los extranjeros me fingen obediencia, al oírme, me obedecen.

46 Los extranjeros desfallecen, y salen temblando de sus fortalezas.

47 El SEÑOR vive, bendita sea mi roca, y ensalzado sea Dios, roca de mi salvación,

48 el Dios que por mí hace venganza, y hace caer pueblos debajo de mí;

49 el que me libra de mis enemigos. Tú me exaltas sobre los que se levantan contra mí; me rescatas del hombre violento.

50 Por tanto, te alabaré, oh SEÑOR, entre las naciones, y cantaré alabanzas a tu nombre.

51 El es torre de salvación a su rey, y muestra misericordia a su ungido, a David y a su descendencia para siempre.

1 David prayed to God the words of this song after God saved him from all his enemies and from Saul.

2 God is bedrock under my feet, the castle in which I live, my rescuing knight.

3 My God - the high crag where I run for dear life, hiding behind the boulders, safe in the granite hideout; My mountaintop refuge, he saves me from ruthless men.

4 I sing to God the Praise-Lofty, and find myself safe and saved.

5 The waves of death crashed over me, devil waters rushed over me.

6 Hell's ropes cinched me tight; death traps barred every exit.

7 A hostile world! I called to God, to my God I cried out. From his palace he heard me call; my cry brought me right into his presence - a private audience!

8 Earth wobbled and lurched; the very heavens shook like leaves, Quaked like aspen leaves because of his rage.

9 His nostrils flared, billowing smoke; his mouth spit fire. Tongues of fire darted in and out;

10 he lowered the sky. He stepped down; under his feet an abyss opened up.

11 He rode a winged creature, swift on wind-wings.

12 He wrapped himself in a trenchcoat of black rain-cloud darkness.

13 But his cloud-brightness burst through, a grand comet of fireworks.

14 Then God thundered out of heaven; the High God gave a great shout.

15 God shot his arrows - pandemonium! He hurled his lightnings - a rout!

16 The secret sources of ocean were exposed, the hidden depths of earth lay uncovered The moment God roared in protest, let loose his hurricane anger.

17 But me he caught - reached all the way from sky to sea; he pulled me out

18 Of that ocean of hate, that enemy chaos, the void in which I was drowning.

19 They hit me when I was down, but God stuck by me.

20 He stood me up on a wide-open field; I stood there saved - surprised to be loved!

21 God made my life complete when I placed all the pieces before him. When I cleaned up my act, he gave me a fresh start.

22 Indeed, I've kept alert to God's ways; I haven't taken God for granted.

23 Every day I review the ways he works, I try not to miss a trick.

24 I feel put back together, and I'm watching my step.

25 God rewrote the text of my life when I opened the book of my heart to his eyes.

26 You stick by people who stick with you, you're straight with people who're straight with you,

27 You're good to good people, you shrewdly work around the bad ones.

28 You take the side of the down-and-out, but the stuck-up you take down a peg.

29 Suddenly, God, your light floods my path, God drives out the darkness.

30 I smash the bands of marauders, I vault the high fences.

31 What a God! His road stretches straight and smooth. Every God-direction is road-tested. Everyone who runs toward him Makes it.

35 He shows me how to fight; I can bend a bronze bow!

36 You protect me with salvation-armor; you touch me and I feel ten feet tall.

37 You cleared the ground under me so my footing was firm.

38 When I chased my enemies I caught them; I didn't let go till they were dead men.

39 I nailed them; they were down for good; then I walked all over them.

40 You armed me well for this fight; you smashed the upstarts.

41 You made my enemies turn tail, and I wiped out the haters.

42 They cried "uncle" but Uncle didn't come; They yelled for God and got no for an answer.

43 I ground them to dust; they gusted in the wind. I threw them out, like garbage in the gutter.

44 You rescued me from a squabbling people; you made me a leader of nations. People I'd never heard of served me;

45 the moment they got wind of me they submitted.

46 They gave up; they came trembling from their hideouts.

47 Live, God! Blessing to my Rock, my towering Salvation-God!

48 This God set things right for me and shut up the people who talked back.

49 He rescued me from enemy anger. You pulled me from the grip of upstarts, You saved me from the bullies.

50 That's why I'm thanking you, God, all over the world. That's why I'm singing songs that rhyme your name.

51 God's king takes the trophy; God's chosen is beloved. I mean David and all his children - always.
