1 La colère de l'Éternel s'alluma encore contre Israël, et il incita David contre eux, en disant: Va, fais le dénombrement d'Israël et de Juda.

4 And again the Af Hashem was kindled against Yisroel, and He incited Dovid against them to say, Go, number Yisroel and Yehudah.
2 Et le roi dit à Joab, chef de l'armée, qu'il avait auprès de lui: Va parcourir toutes les tribus d'Israël, depuis Dan jusqu'à Béer-Shéba, et faites le dénombrement du peuple, afin que j'en sache le nombre.

For HaMelech said to Yoav Sar HaChayil, who was with him, Go now through kol Shivtei Yisroel, from Dan even to Beer Sheva, and number ye HaAm, that I may know the Mispar HaAm.
3 Mais Joab répondit au roi: Que l'Éternel ton Dieu veuille augmenter ton peuple autant et cent fois autant qu'il est maintenant, et que les yeux du roi, mon seigneur, le voient! Mais pourquoi le roi, mon seigneur, prend-il plaisir à cela?

And Yoav said unto HaMelech, Now Hashem Eloheicha add unto HaAm, how many soever they be, a hundredfold, and that the eyes of adoni HaMelech may see it; but why doth adoni HaMelech delight in this thing?
4 Cependant la parole du roi prévalut sur Joab et sur les chefs de l'armée; et Joab et les chefs de l'armée sortirent de la présence du roi pour dénombrer le peuple d'Israël.

Notwithstanding the devar HaMelech prevailed against Yoav, and against the Sarei HeChayil. And Yoav and the Sarei HaChayil went out from before HaMelech, to number HaAm Yisroel.
5 Ils passèrent donc le Jourdain, et campèrent à Aroër, à droite de la ville qui est au milieu du torrent de Gad, et vers Jaezer;

And they passed over Yarden, encamped in Aroer, on the south of the Ir that lieth in the middle of the ravine of Gad, toward Yazer;
6 Et ils vinrent en Galaad, et vers le bas pays de Hodshi; puis ils vinrent à Dan-Jaan, et aux environs de Sidon.

Then they came to Gil‘ad, to Eretz Tachtim-Chodshi; they came to Dan-Ya’an, went around to Tzidon,
7 Ils vinrent aussi à la forteresse de Tyr, et dans toutes les villes des Héviens et des Cananéens, et ils finirent par le midi de Juda, à Béer-Shéba.

And came to the fortress of Tzor, and to all the cities of the Chivi, and of Kena’ani; and they went out to the Negev of Yehudah, to Beer Sheva.
8 Ils parcoururent ainsi tout le pays, et revinrent à Jérusalem au bout de neuf mois et vingt jours.

So when they had gone through kol HaAretz, they came to Yerushalayim at the end of 9 months and 20 days.
9 Alors Joab donna au roi le nombre du recensement du peuple, et il se trouva de ceux d'Israël huit cent mille hommes de guerre, tirant l'épée, et de ceux de Juda cinq cent mille hommes.

And Yoav gave up the sum of the number of HaAm unto HaMelech; and there were in Yisroel Shmoneh Me’ot Elef ish chayil that drew the cherev; and the Ish Yehudah were chamesh Me’ot Elef ish.
10 Mais David fut repris en son cœur, après qu'il eut ainsi dénombré le peuple, et David dit à l'Éternel: J'ai commis un grand péché en faisant cela; et maintenant, ô Éternel, fais passer, je te prie, l'iniquité de ton serviteur, car j'ai agi très follement!

And the lev Dovid struck him after that he had numbered HaAm. And Dovid said unto Hashem, Chatati (I have sinned) me’od (greatly) in what I have done; and now, Hashem, take away the avon (iniquity, guilt) of Thy eved; for I have done very foolishly.
11 Et quand David se leva le matin, la parole de l'Éternel fut adressée au prophète Gad, le Voyant de David, en ces mots:

For when Dovid rose up in the boker, the Devar Hashem came unto Gad HaNavi, the Chozeh Dovid (Seer of Dovid), saying,
12 Va et dis à David: Ainsi a dit l'Éternel: J'ai trois choses à te proposer; choisis l'une d'elles, afin que je te la fasse.

Go, say unto Dovid, Thus saith Hashem, I offer thee shalosh (three, three things); choose for thee one of them, that I may do it unto thee.
13 Gad vint donc vers David, et le lui fit savoir, en disant: Que veux-tu qu'il t'arrive, ou sept ans de famine dans ton pays, ou que, durant trois mois, tu fuies devant tes ennemis et qu'ils te poursuivent, ou que, pendant trois jours, la mortalité soit dans ton pays? Maintenant consulte, et vois ce que je dois répondre à celui qui m'a envoyé.

So Gad came to Dovid, and told him, and said unto him, Shall shalosh [see 1Chr 21:12, Hebrew here says sheva] shanim of ra’av (famine) come unto thee in thy land? Or wilt thou flee shloshah chodashim before thine enemies, while they pursue thee? Or that there be shloshet yamim dever (three days of pestilence) in thy land? Now consider, and see what answer I shall return to Him that sent me.
14 Alors David répondit à Gad: Je suis dans une grande angoisse. Oh! que nous tombions entre les mains de l'Éternel, car ses compassions sont grandes; et que je ne tombe pas entre les mains des hommes!

And Dovid said unto Gad, I am in a great tzar (distress); let us fall now into the Yad Hashem; for His rachamim are rabbim: and let me not fall into the yad adam.
15 L'Éternel envoya donc la mortalité en Israël, depuis le matin jusqu'au temps assigné; et il mourut dans le peuple, depuis Dan jusqu'à Béer-Shéba, soixante et dix mille hommes.

So Hashem sent a dever (pestilence) upon Yisroel from the boker even to the es mo’ed (time appointed); and there died of HaAm from Dan even to Beer Sheva shiv’im elef ish.
16 Mais quand l'ange étendit sa main sur Jérusalem pour la ravager, l'Éternel se repentit de ce mal, et dit à l'ange qui ravageait le peuple: Assez! retire maintenant ta main. Or l'ange de l'Éternel était auprès de l'aire d'Arauna, le Jébusien.

And when the Malach stretched out his yad upon Yerushalayim to destroy her, Hashem relented from the destruction, and said to the Malach that destroyed HaAm, It is enough; restrain now thine yad. And the Malach Hashem was by the goren of Aravnah the Yevusi.
17 Et David, voyant l'ange qui frappait le peuple, parla à l'Éternel et dit: Voici, c'est moi qui ai péché, c'est moi qui ai commis l'iniquité; mais ces brebis qu'ont-elles fait? Que ta main soit sur moi, je te prie, et sur la maison de mon père!

And Dovid spoke unto Hashem when he saw the Malach that struck HaAm, and said, Hineh, I have sinned, and I have transgressed; but these tzon, what have they done? Let Thine yad be against me, and against Bais Avi [Isa 53:6].
18 Et en ce jour-là, Gad vint vers David, et lui dit: Monte et dresse un autel à l'Éternel dans l'aire d'Arauna, le Jébusien.

And Gad came that day to Dovid, and said unto him, Go up, erect a Mizbe’ach unto Hashem in the goren of Aravnah the Yevusi.
19 David monta donc, selon la parole de Gad, comme l'Éternel l'avait commandé.

And Dovid, according to the Devar Gad, went up as Hashem commanded.
20 Et Arauna regarda, et vit le roi et ses serviteurs qui venaient vers lui; alors Arauna sortit, et se prosterna devant le roi, le visage contre terre.

And Aravnah looked, and saw HaMelech and his avadim coming on toward him; and Aravnah went out, and prostrated himself before HaMelech on his face upon the ground.
21 Puis Arauna dit: Pourquoi le roi, mon seigneur, vient-il vers son serviteur? Et David répondit: C'est pour acheter ton aire, et y bâtir un autel à l'Éternel, afin que cette plaie soit arrêtée parmi le peuple.

And Aravnah said, Why is adoni HaMelech come to his eved? And Dovid said, To buy the goren of thee, to build a Mizbe’ach unto Hashem, that the magefah (plague) may be withdrawn from HaAm.
22 Et Arauna dit à David: Que le roi, mon seigneur, prenne et offre ce qu'il trouvera bon. Voilà les bœufs pour l'holocauste, et les chariots et l'attelage des bœufs au lieu de bois.

And Aravnah said unto Dovid, Let adoni HaMelech take and offer up what seemeth tov unto him; see, here are oxen for the olah (burnt sacrifice), and threshing tools and other instruments of the bakar (oxen) for wood.
23 O roi, Arauna donne le tout au roi. Et Arauna dit au roi: L'Éternel, ton Dieu, te soit favorable!

All these things did Aravnah, hamelech lamelech, give. And Aravnah said unto HaMelech, Hashem Eloheicha yirtzecha (accept thee).
24 Et le roi répondit à Arauna: Non; mais je l'achèterai de toi pour un certain prix, et je n'offrirai point à l'Éternel, mon Dieu, des holocaustes qui ne me coûtent rien. Ainsi David acheta l'aire et les bœufs pour cinquante sicles d'argent.

And HaMelech said unto Aravnah, Lo (no); but I will surely buy it of thee at a mekhir (price); neither will I offer olot (burnt offerings) unto Hashem Elohai of that which doth cost me nothing. So Dovid bought the goren and the bakar for fifty shekels of kesef.
25 Puis David bâtit là un autel à l'Éternel, et offrit des holocaustes et des sacrifices de prospérité; et l'Éternel fut apaisé envers le pays, et la plaie fut arrêtée en Israël.

And Dovid built there a Mizbe’ach unto Hashem, and offered olot (burnt offerings) and shelamim (peace offerings). So Hashem was entreated for the land, and the magefah (plague, see Isa 53:8) was withdrawn from Yisroel.
