1 Volvió David a reunir a todos los hombres escogidos de Israel, treinta mil.

2 Y David se levantó y fue con todo el pueblo que estaba con él a Baala de Judá, para hacer subir desde allí el arca de Dios, la cual es llamada por el Nombre, el nombre del SEÑOR de los ejércitos, que está sobre los querubines.

3 Pusieron el arca de Dios sobre un carro nuevo, para que la pudieran llevar de la casa de Abinadab que estaba en la colina. Uza y Ahío, hijos de Abinadab, guiaban el carro nuevo.

4 Y lo llevaron con el arca de Dios de la casa de Abinadab que estaba en la colina, y Ahío iba delante del arca.

5 David y toda la casa de Israel se regocijaban delante del SEÑOR con toda clase de instrumentos hechos de madera de abeto, y con liras, arpas, panderos, castañuelas y címbalos.

6 Pero cuando llegaron a la era de Nacón, Uza extendió la mano hacia el arca de Dios, y la sostuvo porque los bueyes casi la volcaron.

7 Y se encendió la ira del SEÑOR contra Uza, y Dios lo hirió allí por su irreverencia; y allí murió junto al arca de Dios.

8 Entonces David se enojó porque el SEÑOR había estallado en ira contra Uza, y llamó aquel lugar Pérez-uza hasta el día de hoy.

9 David tuvo temor del SEÑOR aquel día, y dijo: ¿Cómo podrá venir a mí el arca del SEÑOR?

10 Y David no quiso trasladar el arca del SEÑOR con él a la ciudad de David, sino que la hizo llevar a la casa de Obed-edom geteo.

11 Por tres meses permaneció el arca del SEÑOR en la casa de Obed-edom geteo; y bendijo el SEÑOR a Obed-edom y a toda su casa.

12 Y se dio aviso al rey David, diciéndole: El SEÑOR ha bendecido la casa de Obed-edom y todo lo que le pertenece a causa del arca de Dios. Entonces David fue, y con alegría hizo subir el arca de Dios de la casa de Obed-edom a la ciudad de David.

13 Y sucedió que cuando los portadores del arca del SEÑOR habían andado seis pasos, él sacrificó un buey y un carnero cebado.

14 David danzaba con toda su fuerza delante del SEÑOR, y estaba vestido con un efod de lino.

15 David y toda la casa de Israel hacían subir el arca del SEÑOR con aclamación y sonido de trompeta.

16 Sucedió que cuando el arca del SEÑOR entraba a la ciudad de David, Mical, hija de Saúl, miró desde la ventana y vio al rey David saltando y danzando delante del SEÑOR, y lo menospreció en su corazón.

17 Metieron el arca del SEÑOR y la colocaron en su lugar dentro de la tienda que David había levantado para ella, y David ofreció holocaustos y ofrendas de paz delante del SEÑOR.

18 Cuando David terminó de ofrecer el holocausto y las ofrendas de paz, bendijo al pueblo en el nombre del SEÑOR de los ejércitos.

19 Después repartió a todo el pueblo, a toda la multitud de Israel, tanto a hombres como a mujeres, una torta de pan, una de dátiles y una de pasas a cada uno. Entonces todo el pueblo se fue, cada uno a su casa.

20 Pero al regresar David para bendecir su casa, Mical, hija de Saúl, salió al encuentro de David, y le dijo: ¡Cómo se ha distinguido hoy el rey de Israel! Se descubrió hoy ante los ojos de las criadas de sus siervos, como se descubriría sin decoro un insensato.

21 Y David dijo a Mical: Eso fue delante del SEÑOR que me escogió en preferencia a tu padre y a toda su casa para constituirme por príncipe sobre el pueblo del SEÑOR, sobre Israel. Por tanto, lo celebraré delante del SEÑOR.

22 Y aún seré menos estimado que esto, y seré humillado ante mis propios ojos, pero con las criadas de quienes has hablado, ante ellas seré honrado.

23 Y Mical, hija de Saúl, no tuvo hijos hasta el día de su muerte.

The Message Bible MSG

1 David mustered the pick of the troops of Israel - thirty divisions of them.

2 Together with his soldiers, David headed for Baalah to recover the Chest of God, which was called by the Name God-of-the-Angel-Armies, who was enthroned over the pair of angels on the Chest.

3 They placed the Chest of God on a brand-new oxcart and removed it from Abinadab's house on the hill. Uzzah and Ahio, Abinadab's sons, were driving the new cart

4 loaded with the Chest of God, Ahio in the lead and Uzzah alongside the Chest.

5 David and the whole company of Israel were in the parade, singing at the top of their lungs and playing mandolins, harps, tambourines, castanets, and cymbals.

6 When they came to the threshing floor of Nacon, the oxen stumbled, so Uzzah reached out and grabbed the Chest of God.

7 God blazed in anger against Uzzah and struck him hard because he had profaned the Chest. Uzzah died on the spot, right alongside the Chest.

8 Then David got angry because of God's deadly outburst against Uzzah. That place is still called Perez Uzzah (The-Explosion-Against-Uzzah).

9 David became fearful of God that day and said, "This Chest is too hot to handle. How can I ever get it back to the City of David?"

10 He refused to take the Chest of God a step farther. Instead, David removed it off the road and to the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite.

11 The Chest of God stayed at the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite for three months. And God prospered Obed-Edom and his entire household.

12 It was reported to King David that God had prospered Obed-Edom and his entire household because of the Chest of God. So David thought, "I'll get that blessing for myself," and went and brought up the Chest of God from the house of Obed-Edom to the City of David, celebrating

13 extravagantly all the way, with frequent sacrifices of choice bulls.

14 David, ceremonially dressed in priest's linen, danced with great abandon before God.

15 The whole country was with him as he accompanied the Chest of God with shouts and trumpet blasts.

16 But as the Chest of God came into the City of David, Michal, Saul's daughter, happened to be looking out a window. When she saw King David leaping and dancing before God, her heart filled with scorn.

17 They brought the Chest of God and set it in the middle of the tent pavilion that David had pitched for it. Then and there David worshiped, offering burnt offerings and peace offerings.

18 When David had completed the sacrifices of burnt and peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of God-of-the-Angel-Armies

19 and handed out to each person in the crowd, men and women alike, a loaf of bread, a date cake, and a raisin cake. Then everyone went home.

20 David returned home to bless his family. Michal, Saul's daughter, came out to greet him: "How wonderfully the king has distinguished himself today - exposing himself to the eyes of the servants' maids like some burlesque street dancer!"

21 David replied to Michal, "In God's presence I'll dance all I want! He chose me over your father and the rest of our family and made me prince over God's people, over Israel. Oh yes, I'll dance to God's glory

22 - more recklessly even than this. And as far as I'm concerned . . . I'll gladly look like a fool . . . but among these maids you're so worried about, I'll be honored no end."

23 Michal, Saul's daughter, was barren the rest of her life.
