1 Acontecimientos previos a la segunda venida del Señor<br />Ahora, amados hermanos, aclaremos algunos aspectos sobre la venida de nuestro Señor Jesucristo y cómo seremos reunidos para encontrarnos con él.

2 No se dejen perturbar ni se alarmen tan fácilmente por los que dicen que el día del Señor ya ha comenzado. No les crean, ni siquiera si afirman haber tenido una visión espiritual, una revelación o haber recibido una carta supuestamente de nosotros.

3 No se dejen engañar por lo que dicen. Pues aquel día no vendrá hasta que haya una gran rebelión contra Dios y se dé a conocer el hombre de anarquía,<br /> aquel que trae destrucción.

4 Se exaltará a sí mismo y se opondrá a todo lo que la gente llame «dios» y a cada objeto de culto. Incluso se sentará en el templo de Dios y afirmará que él mismo es Dios.

5 ¿No se acuerdan de que les mencioné todo esto cuando estuve con ustedes?

6 Y ustedes saben qué es lo que lo detiene, porque solo puede darse a conocer cuando le llegue su momento.

7 Pues esa anarquía ya está en marcha en forma secreta, y permanecerá secreta hasta que el que la detiene se quite de en medio.

8 Entonces el hombre de anarquía será dado a conocer, pero el Señor Jesús lo matará con el soplo de su boca y lo destruirá con el esplendor de su venida.

9 Ese hombre vendrá a hacer la obra de Satanás con poder, señales y milagros falsos.

10 Se valdrá de toda clase de mentiras malignas para engañar a los que van rumbo a la destrucción, porque se niegan a amar y a aceptar la verdad que los salvaría.

11 Por lo tanto, Dios hará que ellos sean engañados en gran manera y creerán esas mentiras.

12 Entonces serán condenados por deleitarse en la maldad en lugar de creer en la verdad.

13 Los creyentes deben permanecer firmes<br />En cuanto a nosotros, no podemos más que agradecerle a Dios por ustedes, queridos hermanos, amados por el Señor. Siempre estamos agradecidos de que Dios los eligió para que estén entre los primeros<br /> en experimentar la salvación, una salvación que vino mediante el Espíritu —quien los hace santos— y por creer en la verdad.

14 Él los llamó a la salvación cuando les anunciamos la Buena Noticia; ahora pueden participar de la gloria de nuestro Señor Jesucristo.

15 Con todo esto en mente, amados hermanos, permanezcan firmes y sigan bien aferrados a las enseñanzas que les transmitimos tanto en persona como por carta.

16 Que nuestro Señor Jesucristo mismo y Dios nuestro Padre, quien nos amó y por su gracia nos dio consuelo eterno y una esperanza maravillosa,

17 los conforten y fortalezcan en todo lo bueno que ustedes hagan y digan.

1 Concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered to him, we ask you, brothers and sisters,

2 not to become easily unsettled or alarmed by the teaching allegedly from us—whether by a prophecy or by word of mouth or by letter—asserting that the day of the Lord has already come.

3 Don’t let anyone deceive you in any way, for that day will not come until the rebellion occurs and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the man doomed to destruction.

4 He will oppose and will exalt himself over everything that is called God or is worshiped, so that he sets himself up in God’s temple, proclaiming himself to be God.

5 Don’t you remember that when I was with you I used to tell you these things?

6 And now you know what is holding him back, so that he may be revealed at the proper time.

7 For the secret power of lawlessness is already at work; but the one who now holds it back will continue to do so till he is taken out of the way.

8 And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will overthrow with the breath of his mouth and destroy by the splendor of his coming.

9 The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with how Satan works. He will use all sorts of displays of power through signs and wonders that serve the lie,

10 and all the ways that wickedness deceives those who are perishing. They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved.

11 For this reason God sends them a powerful delusion so that they will believe the lie

12 and so that all will be condemned who have not believed the truth but have delighted in wickedness.

13 But we ought always to thank God for you, brothers and sisters loved by the Lord, because God chose you as firstfruits to be saved through the sanctifying work of the Spirit and through belief in the truth.

14 He called you to this through our gospel, that you might share in the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

15 So then, brothers and sisters, stand firm and hold fast to the teachings we passed on to you, whether by word of mouth or by letter.

16 May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal encouragement and good hope,

17 encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good deed and word.
