CEB 1 Peter and John were going up to the temple at three o'clock in the afternoon, the established prayer time. NRS 1 One day Peter and John were going up to the temple at the hour of prayer, at three o'clock in the afternoon. CEB 2 Meanwhile, a man crippled since birth was being carried in. Every day, people would place him at the temple gate known as the Beautiful Gate so he could ask for money from those entering the temple. NRS 2 And a man lame from birth was being carried in. People would lay him daily at the gate of the temple called the Beautiful Gate so that he could ask for alms from those entering the temple. CEB 3 When he saw Peter and John about to enter, he began to ask them for a gift. NRS 3 When he saw Peter and John about to go into the temple, he asked them for alms. CEB 4 Peter and John stared at him. Peter said, "Look at us!" NRS 4 Peter looked intently at him, as did John, and said, "Look at us." CEB 5 So the man gazed at them, expecting to receive something from them. NRS 5 And he fixed his attention on them, expecting to receive something from them. CEB 6 Peter said, "I don't have any money, but I will give you what I do have. In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, rise up and walk!" NRS 6 But Peter said, "I have no silver or gold, but what I have I give you; in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, stand up and walk." CEB 7 Then he grasped the man's right hand and raised him up. At once his feet and ankles became strong. NRS 7 And he took him by the right hand and raised him up; and immediately his feet and ankles were made strong. CEB 8 Jumping up, he began to walk around. He entered the temple with them, walking, leaping, and praising God. NRS 8 Jumping up, he stood and began to walk, and he entered the temple with them, walking and leaping and praising God. CEB 9 All the people saw him walking and praising God. NRS 9 All the people saw him walking and praising God, CEB 10 They recognized him as the same one who used to sit at the temple's Beautiful Gate asking for money. They were filled with amazement and surprise at what had happened to him. NRS 10 and they recognized him as the one who used to sit and ask for alms at the Beautiful Gate of the temple; and they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him. CEB 11 While the healed man clung to Peter and John, all the people rushed toward them at Solomon's Porch, completely amazed. NRS 11 While he clung to Peter and John, all the people ran together to them in the portico called Solomon's Portico, utterly astonished. CEB 12 Seeing this, Peter addressed the people: “You Israelites, why are you amazed at this? Why are you staring at us as if we made him walk by our own power or piety? NRS 12 When Peter saw it, he addressed the people, "You Israelites, why do you wonder at this, or why do you stare at us, as though by our own power or piety we had made him walk? CEB 13 The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob—the God of our ancestors—has glorified his servant Jesus. This is the one you handed over and denied in Pilate's presence, even though he had already decided to release him. NRS 13 The God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, the God of our ancestors has glorified his servant Jesus, whom you handed over and rejected in the presence of Pilate, though he had decided to release him. CEB 14 You rejected the holy and righteous one, and asked that a murderer be released to you instead. NRS 14 But you rejected the Holy and Righteous One and asked to have a murderer given to you, CEB 15 You killed the author of life, the very one whom God raised from the dead. We are witnesses of this. NRS 15 and you killed the Author of life, whom God raised from the dead. To this we are witnesses. CEB 16 His name itself has made this man strong. That is, because of faith in Jesus' name, God has strengthened this man whom you see and know. The faith that comes through Jesus gave him complete health right before your eyes. NRS 16 And by faith in his name, his name itself has made this man strong, whom you see and know; and the faith that is through Jesus has given him this perfect health in the presence of all of you. CEB 17 "Brothers and sisters, I know you acted in ignorance. So did your rulers. NRS 17 "And now, friends, I know that you acted in ignorance, as did also your rulers. CEB 18 But this is how God fulfilled what he foretold through all the prophets: that his Christ would suffer. NRS 18 In this way God fulfilled what he had foretold through all the prophets, that his Messiah would suffer. CEB 19 Change your hearts and lives! Turn back to God so that your sins may be wiped away. NRS 19 Repent therefore, and turn to God so that your sins may be wiped out, CEB 20 Then the Lord will provide a season of relief from the distress of this age and he will send Jesus, whom he handpicked to be your Christ. NRS 20 so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, and that he may send the Messiah appointed for you, that is, Jesus, CEB 21 Jesus must remain in heaven until the restoration of all things, about which God spoke long ago through his holy prophets. NRS 21 who must remain in heaven until the time of universal restoration that God announced long ago through his holy prophets. CEB 22 Moses said, The Lord your God will raise up from your own people a prophet like me. Listen to whatever he tells you. NRS 22 Moses said, "The Lord your God will raise up for you from your own people a prophet like me. You must listen to whatever he tells you. CEB 23 Whoever doesn't listen to that prophet will be totally cut off from the people. NRS 23 And it will be that everyone who does not listen to that prophet will be utterly rooted out of the people.' CEB 24 All the prophets who spoke—from Samuel forward—announced these days. NRS 24 And all the prophets, as many as have spoken, from Samuel and those after him, also predicted these days. CEB 25 You are the heirs of the prophets and the covenant that God made with your ancestors when he told Abraham, Through your descendants, all the families on earth will be blessed. NRS 25 You are the descendants of the prophets and of the covenant that God gave to your ancestors, saying to Abraham, "And in your descendants all the families of the earth shall be blessed.' CEB 26 After God raised his servant, he sent him to you first—to bless you by enabling each of you to turn from your evil ways." NRS 26 When God raised up his servant, he sent him first to you, to bless you by turning each of you from your wicked ways."
