Deuteronomy 27

BBE 1 Then Moses and the responsible men of Israel gave the people these orders: Keep all the orders which I have given you this day; NIV 1 Moses and the elders of Israel commanded the people: “Keep all these commands that I give you today. BBE 2 And on the day when you go over Jordan into the land which the Lord your God is giving you, put up great stones, coating them with building-paste, NIV 2 When you have crossed the Jordan into the land the LORD your God is giving you, set up some large stones and coat them with plaster. BBE 3 And writing on them all the words of this law, after you have gone over; so that you may take the heritage which the Lord your God is giving you, a land flowing with milk and honey, as the Lord, the God of your fathers, has said. NIV 3 Write on them all the words of this law when you have crossed over to enter the land the LORD your God is giving you, a land flowing with milk and honey, just as the LORD, the God of your ancestors, promised you. BBE 4 And when you have gone over Jordan, you are to put up these stones, as I have said to you today, in Mount Ebal, and have them coated with building-paste. NIV 4 And when you have crossed the Jordan, set up these stones on Mount Ebal, as I command you today, and coat them with plaster. BBE 5 There you are to make an altar to the Lord your God, of stones on which no iron instrument has been used. NIV 5 Build there an altar to the LORD your God, an altar of stones. Do not use any iron tool on them. BBE 6 You are to make the altar of the Lord your God of uncut stones; offering on it burned offerings to the Lord your God: NIV 6 Build the altar of the LORD your God with fieldstones and offer burnt offerings on it to the LORD your God. BBE 7 And you are to make your peace-offerings, feasting there with joy before the Lord your God. NIV 7 Sacrifice fellowship offerings there, eating them and rejoicing in the presence of the LORD your God. BBE 8 And put on the stones all the words of this law, writing them very clearly. NIV 8 And you shall write very clearly all the words of this law on these stones you have set up.” BBE 9 Then Moses and the priests, the Levites, said to all Israel, Be quiet and give ear, O Israel; today you have become the people of the Lord your God. NIV 9 Then Moses and the Levitical priests said to all Israel, “Be silent, Israel, and listen! You have now become the people of the LORD your God. BBE 10 For this cause you are to give ear to the voice of the Lord your God, and do his orders and his laws which I give you this day. NIV 10 Obey the LORD your God and follow his commands and decrees that I give you today.” BBE 11 That same day Moses said to the people, NIV 11 On the same day Moses commanded the people: BBE 12 These are to take their places on Mount Gerizim for blessing the people when you have gone over Jordan: Simeon and Levi and Judah and Issachar and Joseph and Benjamin; NIV 12 When you have crossed the Jordan, these tribes shall stand on Mount Gerizim to bless the people: Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Joseph and Benjamin. BBE 13 And these are to be on Mount Ebal for the curse: Reuben, Gad, and Asher, and Zebulun, Dan, and Naphtali. NIV 13 And these tribes shall stand on Mount Ebal to pronounce curses: Reuben, Gad, Asher, Zebulun, Dan and Naphtali. BBE 14 Then the Levites are to say in a loud voice to all the men of Israel, NIV 14 The Levites shall recite to all the people of Israel in a loud voice: BBE 15 Cursed is the man who makes any image of wood or stone or metal, disgusting to the Lord, the work of man's hands, and puts it up in secret. And let all the people say, So be it. NIV 15 “Cursed is anyone who makes an idol—a thing detestable to the LORD, the work of skilled hands—and sets it up in secret.” Then all the people shall say, “Amen!” BBE 16 Cursed is he who does not give honour to his father or mother. And let all the people say, So be it. NIV 16 “Cursed is anyone who dishonors their father or mother.” Then all the people shall say, “Amen!” BBE 17 Cursed is he who takes his neighbour's landmark from its place. And let all the people say, So be it. NIV 17 “Cursed is anyone who moves their neighbor’s boundary stone.” Then all the people shall say, “Amen!” BBE 18 Cursed is he by whom the blind are turned out of the way. And let all the people say, So be it. NIV 18 “Cursed is anyone who leads the blind astray on the road.” Then all the people shall say, “Amen!” BBE 19 Cursed is he who gives a wrong decision in the cause of a man from a strange land, or of one without a father, or of a widow. And let all the people say, So be it. NIV 19 “Cursed is anyone who withholds justice from the foreigner, the fatherless or the widow.” Then all the people shall say, “Amen!” BBE 20 Cursed is he who has sex relations with his father's wife, for he has put shame on his father. And let all the people say, So be it. NIV 20 “Cursed is anyone who sleeps with his father’s wife, for he dishonors his father’s bed.” Then all the people shall say, “Amen!” BBE 21 Cursed is he who has sex relations with any sort of beast. And let all the people say, So be it. NIV 21 “Cursed is anyone who has sexual relations with any animal.” Then all the people shall say, “Amen!” BBE 22 Cursed is he who has sex relations with his sister, the daughter of his father or of his mother. And let all the people say, So be it. NIV 22 “Cursed is anyone who sleeps with his sister, the daughter of his father or the daughter of his mother.” Then all the people shall say, “Amen!” BBE 23 Cursed is he who has sex relations with his mother-in-law. And let all the people say, So be it. NIV 23 “Cursed is anyone who sleeps with his mother-in-law.” Then all the people shall say, “Amen!” BBE 24 Cursed is he who takes his neighbour's life secretly. And let all the people say, So be it. NIV 24 “Cursed is anyone who kills their neighbor secretly.” Then all the people shall say, “Amen!” BBE 25 Cursed is he who for a reward puts to death one who has done no wrong. And let all the people say, So be it. NIV 25 “Cursed is anyone who accepts a bribe to kill an innocent person.” Then all the people shall say, “Amen!” BBE 26 Cursed is he who does not take this law to heart to do it. And let all the people say, So be it. NIV 26 “Cursed is anyone who does not uphold the words of this law by carrying them out.” Then all the people shall say, “Amen!”
