CEB 1 As for children, obey your parents in the Lord, because it is right. NRS 1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. CEB 2 The commandment Honor your father and mother is the first one with a promise attached: NRS 2 "Honor your father and mother"—this is the first commandment with a promise: CEB 3 so that things will go well for you, and you will live for a long time in the land. NRS 3 "so that it may be well with you and you may live long on the earth." CEB 4 As for parents, don't provoke your children to anger, but raise them with discipline and instruction about the Lord. NRS 4 And, fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord. CEB 5 As for slaves, obey your human masters with fear and trembling and with sincere devotion to Christ. NRS 5 Slaves, obey your earthly masters with fear and trembling, in singleness of heart, as you obey Christ; CEB 6 Don't work to make yourself look good and try to flatter people, but act like slaves of Christ carrying out God's will from the heart. NRS 6 not only while being watched, and in order to please them, but as slaves of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart. CEB 7 Serve your owners enthusiastically, as though you were serving the Lord and not human beings. NRS 7 Render service with enthusiasm, as to the Lord and not to men and women, CEB 8 You know that the Lord will reward every person who does what is right, whether that person is a slave or a free person. NRS 8 knowing that whatever good we do, we will receive the same again from the Lord, whether we are slaves or free. CEB 9 As for masters, treat your slaves in the same way. Stop threatening them, because you know that both you and your slaves have a master in heaven. He doesn't distinguish between people on the basis of status. NRS 9 And, masters, do the same to them. Stop threatening them, for you know that both of you have the same Master in heaven, and with him there is no partiality. CEB 10 Finally, be strengthened by the Lord and his powerful strength. NRS 10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his power. CEB 11 Put on God's armor so that you can make a stand against the tricks of the devil. NRS 11 Put on the whole armor of God, so that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. CEB 12 We aren't fighting against human enemies but against rulers, authorities, forces of cosmic darkness, and spiritual powers of evil in the heavens. NRS 12 For our struggle is not against enemies of blood and flesh, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers of this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. CEB 13 Therefore, pick up the full armor of God so that you can stand your ground on the evil day and after you have done everything possible to still stand. NRS 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, so that you may be able to withstand on that evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm. CEB 14 So stand with the belt of truth around your waist, justice as your breastplate, NRS 14 Stand therefore, and fasten the belt of truth around your waist, and put on the breastplate of righteousness. CEB 15 and put shoes on your feet so that you are ready to spread the good news of peace. NRS 15 As shoes for your feet put on whatever will make you ready to proclaim the gospel of peace. CEB 16 Above all, carry the shield of faith so that you can extinguish the flaming arrows of the evil one. NRS 16 With all of these, take the shield of faith, with which you will be able to quench all the flaming arrows of the evil one. CEB 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is God's word. NRS 17 Take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. To that end keep alert and always persevere in supplication for all the saints. CEB 19 As for me, pray that when I open my mouth, I'll get a message that confidently makes this secret plan of the gospel known. NRS 19 Pray also for me, so that when I speak, a message may be given to me to make known with boldness the mystery of the gospel, CEB 20 I'm an ambassador in chains for the sake of the gospel.
