1 Canto fúnebre para los reyes de Israel<br />»Entona este canto fúnebre para los príncipes de Israel:

2 »“¿Qué es tu madre?<br />¡Una leona entre leones!<br />Se recostó entre los leones jóvenes<br />y crió a sus cachorros.

3 A uno de sus cachorros lo crió<br />para que fuera un león fuerte.<br />Aprendió a cazar la presa y a devorarla<br />y llegó a alimentarse de carne humana.

4 Luego las naciones oyeron hablar de él<br />y lo atraparon en una fosa.<br />Se lo llevaron con garfios<br />a la tierra de Egipto.

5 »”Cuando la leona vio<br />que su esperanza en él estaba perdida,<br />tomó a otro de sus cachorros<br />y le enseñó a ser un león fuerte.

6 Él merodeaba entre los demás leones<br />y se destacaba por su fuerza.<br />Aprendió a cazar la presa y a devorarla,<br />y también él llegó a alimentarse de carne humana.

7 Derribó fortalezas<br />y destruyó sus aldeas y ciudades.<br />Las granjas quedaron devastadas<br />y las cosechas destruidas.<br />La tierra y sus habitantes temblaban de miedo<br />cuando lo oían rugir.

8 Luego lo atacaron los ejércitos de las naciones,<br />lo rodearon por todas partes.<br />Arrojaron una red sobre él<br />y lo atraparon en una fosa.

9 Lo arrastraron con ganchos, lo encerraron en una jaula<br />y lo llevaron ante el rey de Babilonia.<br />Lo mantuvieron cautivo,<br />para que nunca más se oyera su voz<br />en los montes de Israel.

10 »”Tu madre era como una vid<br />plantada junto a la orilla del agua.<br />Su follaje era verde y frondoso<br />por la abundancia de agua.

11 Sus ramas se fortalecieron<br />lo suficiente para ser el cetro de un rey.<br />Llegó a crecer muy alta,<br /> muy por encima de las demás vides.<br />Se destacó por su altura<br />y sus abundantes ramas frondosas.

12 Pero la vid fue arrancada de raíz con furia<br />y arrojada al suelo.<br />El viento del desierto le secó los frutos<br />y le desgajó las ramas fuertes;<br />así que se marchitó<br />y fue consumida por el fuego.

13 Ahora la vid está trasplantada en el desierto,<br />donde el suelo es duro y reseco.

14 De sus ramas surgió fuego<br />que devoró sus frutos.<br />Las ramas que le quedan no son<br />tan fuertes para ser el cetro de un rey”.<br />»Este es un canto fúnebre y se entonará en un funeral».

1 “Take up a lament concerning the princes of Israel

2 and say: “ ‘What a lioness was your mother among the lions! She lay down among them and reared her cubs.

3 She brought up one of her cubs, and he became a strong lion. He learned to tear the prey and he became a man-eater.

4 The nations heard about him, and he was trapped in their pit. They led him with hooks to the land of Egypt.

5 “ ‘When she saw her hope unfulfilled, her expectation gone, she took another of her cubs and made him a strong lion.

6 He prowled among the lions, for he was now a strong lion. He learned to tear the prey and he became a man-eater.

7 He broke down their strongholds and devastated their towns. The land and all who were in it were terrified by his roaring.

8 Then the nations came against him, those from regions round about. They spread their net for him, and he was trapped in their pit.

9 With hooks they pulled him into a cage and brought him to the king of Babylon. They put him in prison, so his roar was heard no longer on the mountains of Israel.

10 “ ‘Your mother was like a vine in your vineyardplanted by the water; it was fruitful and full of branches because of abundant water.

11 Its branches were strong, fit for a ruler’s scepter. It towered high above the thick foliage, conspicuous for its height and for its many branches.

12 But it was uprooted in fury and thrown to the ground. The east wind made it shrivel, it was stripped of its fruit; its strong branches withered and fire consumed them.

13 Now it is planted in the desert, in a dry and thirsty land.

14 Fire spread from one of its main branches and consumed its fruit. No strong branch is left on it fit for a ruler’s scepter.’ “This is a lament and is to be used as a lament.”
