1 No juzgar a los demás

“Do not judge, or you too will be judged.
2 Pues serán tratados de la misma forma en que traten a los demás.<br /> El criterio que usen para juzgar a otros es el criterio con el que se les juzgará a ustedes.

For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.
3 »¿Y por qué te preocupas por la astilla en el ojo de tu amigo,<br /> cuando tú tienes un tronco en el tuyo?

“Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?
4 ¿Cómo puedes pensar en decirle a tu amigo:<br /> “Déjame ayudarte a sacar la astilla de tu ojo”, cuando tú no puedes ver más allá del tronco que está en tu propio ojo?

How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye?
5 ¡Hipócrita! Primero quita el tronco de tu ojo; después verás lo suficientemente bien para ocuparte de la astilla en el ojo de tu amigo.

You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.
6 »No desperdicies lo que es santo en gente que no es santa.<br /> ¡No arrojes tus perlas a los cerdos! Pisotearán las perlas y luego se darán vuelta y te atacarán.

“Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces.

“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.
8 Pues todo el que pide, recibe; todo el que busca, encuentra; y a todo el que llama, se le abrirá la puerta.

For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.
9 »Ustedes, los que son padres, si sus hijos les piden un pedazo de pan, ¿acaso les dan una piedra en su lugar?

“Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone?
10 O si les piden un pescado, ¿les dan una serpiente? ¡Claro que no!

Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake?
11 Así que si ustedes, gente pecadora, saben dar buenos regalos a sus hijos, cuánto más su Padre celestial dará buenos regalos a quienes le pidan.

If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!

So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.

“Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it.

But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.
15 El árbol y su fruto

“Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves.
16 Puedes identificarlos por su fruto, es decir, por la manera en que se comportan. ¿Acaso puedes recoger uvas de los espinos o higos de los cardos?

By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles?
17 Un buen árbol produce frutos buenos y un árbol malo produce frutos malos.

Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit.
18 Un buen árbol no puede producir frutos malos y un árbol malo no puede producir frutos buenos.

A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit.
19 Por lo tanto, todo árbol que no produce frutos buenos se corta y se arroja al fuego.

Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.
20 Así es, de la misma manera que puedes identificar un árbol por su fruto, puedes identificar a la gente por sus acciones.

Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.

“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.
22 El día del juicio, muchos me dirán: “¡Señor, Señor! Profetizamos en tu nombre, expulsamos demonios en tu nombre e hicimos muchos milagros en tu nombre”.

Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’
23 Pero yo les responderé: “Nunca los conocí. Aléjense de mí, ustedes, que violan las leyes de Dios”.

Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’
24 Edificar sobre un cimiento sólido

“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.
25 Aunque llueva a cántaros y suban las aguas de la inundación y los vientos golpeen contra esa casa, no se vendrá abajo porque está construida sobre un lecho de roca.

The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.
26 Sin embargo, el que oye mi enseñanza y no la obedece es un necio, como la persona que construye su casa sobre la arena.

But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand.
27 Cuando vengan las lluvias y lleguen las inundaciones y los vientos golpeen contra esa casa, se derrumbará con un gran estruendo».

The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”
28 Cuando Jesús terminó de decir esas cosas, las multitudes quedaron asombradas de su enseñanza,

When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching,
29 porque lo hacía con verdadera autoridad, algo completamente diferente de lo que hacían los maestros de la ley religiosa.

because he taught as one who had authority, and not as their teachers of the law.
