1 Le parole di Amos, che era de’ mandriali di Tecoa; le quali gli furono rivelate in visione intorno ad Israele, a’ di Uzzia, re di Giuda; e a’ dì di Geroboamo, figliuolo di Gioas, re d’Israele; due anni avanti il tremoto.

2 EGLI disse adunque: Il Signore ruggirà da Sion, e darà fuori la sua voce da Gerusalemme; ed i paschi de’ pastori faranno cordoglio, e la sommità di Carmel si seccherà.

3 Così ha detto il Signore: Per tre misfatti di Damasco, nè per quattro, io non gli renderò la sua retribuzione; ma, perciocchè hanno tritato Galaad con trebbie di ferro.

4 E manderò un fuoco nella casa di Hazael, il quale consumerà i palazzi di Ben-hadad.

5 Ed io romperò le sbarre di Damasco, e sterminerò della valle di Aven gli abitanti, e della casa di Eden colui che tiene lo scettro; e il popolo di Siria andrà in cattività in Chir, ha detto il Signore.

6 Così ha detto il Signore: Per tre misfatti di Gaza, nè per quattro, io non le renderò la sua retribuzione; ma, perciocchè hanno tratto il mio popolo in cattività intiera, mettendolo in mano di Edom.

7 E manderò un fuoco nelle mura di Gaza, il quale consumerà i suoi palazzi;

8 e sterminerò di Asdod gli abitanti, e di Aschelon colui che tiene lo scettro; poi rivolterò la mia mano sopra Ecron, e il rimanente de’ Filistei perirà, ha detto il Signore Iddio.

9 Così ha detto il Signore: Per tre misfatti di Tiro, nè per quattro, io non gli renderò la sua retribuzione; ma, perciocchè hanno messo il mio popolo in man di Edom, in cattività intiera; e non si son ricordati del patto fraterno.

10 E manderò un fuoco nelle mura di Tiro, il quale consumerà i suoi palazzi.

11 Così ha detto il Signore: Per tre misfatti di Edom, nè per quattro, io non gli renderò la sua retribuzione; ma, perciocchè egli ha perseguitato con la spada il suo fratello, ed ha violate le sue compassioni; e la sua ira lacera perpetuamente, ed egli serba la sua indegnazione senza fine.

12 E manderò un fuoco in Teman, il quale consumerà i palazzi di Bosra.

13 Così ha detto il Signore: Per tre misfatti de’ figliuoli di Ammon, nè per quattro, io non renderò loro la lor retribuzione; ma, perciocchè hanno fesse le donne gravide di Galaad, per allargare i lor confini.

14 E accenderò un fuoco nelle mura di Rabba, il quale consumerà i suoi palazzi, con istormo nel giorno della battaglia, e con turbo nel giorno della tempesta.

15 E Malcam andrà in cattività, con tutti i suoi principi, ha detto il Signore.

1 This message was given to Amos, a shepherd from the town of Tekoa in Judah. He received this message in visions two years before the earthquake, when Uzziah was king of Judah and Jeroboam II, the son of Jehoash, was king of Israel.

2 This is what he saw and heard: “The LORD ’s voice will roar from Zion and thunder from Jerusalem! The lush pastures of the shepherds will dry up; the grass on Mount Carmel will wither and die.”

3 This is what the LORD says: “The people of Damascus have sinned again and again, and I will not let them go unpunished! They beat down my people in Gilead as grain is threshed with iron sledges.

4 So I will send down fire on King Hazael’s palace, and the fortresses of King Ben-hadad will be destroyed.

5 I will break down the gates of Damascus and slaughter the people in the valley of Aven. I will destroy the ruler in Beth-eden, and the people of Aram will go as captives to Kir,” says the LORD .

6 This is what the LORD says: “The people of Gaza have sinned again and again, and I will not let them go unpunished! They sent whole villages into exile, selling them as slaves to Edom.

7 So I will send down fire on the walls of Gaza, and all its fortresses will be destroyed.

8 I will slaughter the people of Ashdod and destroy the king of Ashkelon. Then I will turn to attack Ekron, and the few Philistines still left will be killed,” says the Sovereign LORD .

9 This is what the LORD says: “The people of Tyre have sinned again and again, and I will not let them go unpunished! They broke their treaty of brotherhood with Israel, selling whole villages as slaves to Edom.

10 So I will send down fire on the walls of Tyre, and all its fortresses will be destroyed.”

11 This is what the LORD says: “The people of Edom have sinned again and again, and I will not let them go unpunished! They chased down their relatives, the Israelites, with swords, showing them no mercy. In their rage, they slashed them continually and were unrelenting in their anger.

12 So I will send down fire on Teman, and the fortresses of Bozrah will be destroyed.”

13 This is what the LORD says: “The people of Ammon have sinned again and again, and I will not let them go unpunished! When they attacked Gilead to extend their borders, they ripped open pregnant women with their swords.

14 So I will send down fire on the walls of Rabbah, and all its fortresses will be destroyed. The battle will come upon them with shouts, like a whirlwind in a mighty storm.

15 And their king and his princes will go into exile together,” says the LORD .
