1 Visión de un carnero y un chivo<br />Durante el tercer año del reinado de Belsasar, yo, Daniel, tuve otra visión, después de la que ya se me había aparecido.

2 En esta visión me encontraba en la fortaleza de Susa, en la provincia de Elam, de pie junto al río Ulai.

3 Cuando levanté los ojos, vi un carnero con dos cuernos largos, de pie junto al río.<br /> Uno de los cuernos era más largo que el otro, a pesar de que le había crecido después.

4 El carnero embestía todo lo que encontraba a su paso hacia el occidente, el norte y el sur. Nadie podía hacerle frente ni ayudar a sus víctimas. El carnero hacía lo que quería y se hizo muy poderoso.

5 Mientras yo observaba, de pronto apareció un chivo desde el occidente y atravesó el campo con tanta rapidez que ni siquiera tocó la tierra. Este chivo, que tenía un cuerno enorme entre los ojos,

6 se dirigió hacia el carnero de dos cuernos que yo había visto parado junto al río y se abalanzó con furia sobre él.

7 El chivo atacó con violencia al carnero y le dio un golpe que le quebró ambos cuernos. El carnero quedó indefenso y el chivo lo derribó y lo pisoteó. Nadie pudo rescatar al carnero del poder del chivo.

8 El chivo se hizo poderoso, pero cuando alcanzó el máximo de su poder, se quebró el enorme cuerno que tenía. En su lugar crecieron cuatro cuernos prominentes que apuntaban hacia los cuatro puntos cardinales.

9 Luego, de uno de los cuernos prominentes salió un cuerno pequeño cuyo poder creció en gran manera. Se extendía hacia el sur y hacia el oriente y hacia el glorioso territorio de Israel.

10 Su poder llegó hasta los cielos, donde atacó al ejército de los cielos y arrojó a la tierra a algunos de los seres celestiales y a algunas de las estrellas y los pisoteó.

11 Incluso desafió al comandante del ejército de los cielos cancelando los sacrificios diarios que le ofrecían al comandante y destruyendo su templo.

12 No se le permitió al ejército de los cielos responder a esta rebelión. Así que se detuvieron los sacrificios diarios y la verdad fue derrocada. El cuerno tuvo éxito en todo lo que hizo.

13 Entonces oí a dos seres santos que hablaban entre sí. Uno de ellos preguntó:<br />—¿Cuánto tiempo durarán los sucesos de esta visión? ¿Por cuánto tiempo la rebelión que causa profanación detendrá los sacrificios diarios? ¿Por cuánto tiempo pisotearán el templo y al ejército celestial?

14 El otro le contestó:<br />—Pasarán dos mil trescientas noches y mañanas; después el templo será restaurado.

15 Gabriel explica la visión<br />Mientras yo, Daniel, procuraba entender el significado de esta visión, alguien que se parecía a un hombre se paró frente a mí.

16 Entonces oí una voz humana que exclamaba desde el río Ulai: «Gabriel, dile a este hombre el significado de su visión».

17 Cuando Gabriel se acercó al lugar donde yo estaba, me aterroricé tanto que caí rostro en tierra. «Hijo de hombre —me dijo—, debes comprender que los sucesos que has visto en tu visión tienen que ver con el tiempo del fin».

18 Mientras él hablaba, me desmayé y quedé tendido con el rostro contra el suelo, pero Gabriel con un toque me despertó y me ayudó a ponerme de pie.

19 Entonces dijo: «Estoy aquí para explicarte lo que sucederá después, en el tiempo de la ira. Lo que has visto pertenece al fin del tiempo.

20 El carnero con los dos cuernos representa a los reyes de Media y de Persia.

21 El chivo peludo representa al rey de Grecia,<br /> y el cuerno enorme que tiene entre los ojos representa al primer rey del Imperio griego.

22 Los cuatro cuernos prominentes que reemplazaron el cuerno enorme indican que el Imperio griego se dividirá en cuatro reinos, pero que ninguno de ellos será tan grande como el primero.

23 »Al final de sus reinados, cuando el pecado llegue al colmo de su maldad, subirá al poder un rey brutal, un maestro de la intriga.

24 Se volverá muy fuerte, pero no por su propio poder. Provocará una tremenda cantidad de destrucción y tendrá éxito en todo lo que emprenda. Destruirá a líderes poderosos y arrasará al pueblo santo.

25 Será un maestro del engaño y se volverá arrogante; destruirá a muchos de golpe. Hasta entrará en batalla con el Príncipe de príncipes, pero será quebrantado, aunque no por poder humano.

26 »Esta visión sobre las dos mil trescientas noches y mañanas<br /> es verdadera, pero ninguna de esas cosas sucederá sino hasta dentro de mucho tiempo, de modo que mantén esta visión en secreto».

27 Entonces yo, Daniel, quedé abrumado y estuve enfermo durante varios días. Después me levanté y cumplí con mis deberes para con el rey. Sin embargo, la visión me dejó angustiado y no podía entenderla.

1 In the third year of King Belshazzar’s reign, I, Daniel, had a vision, after the one that had already appeared to me.

2 In my vision I saw myself in the citadel of Susa in the province of Elam; in the vision I was beside the Ulai Canal.

3 I looked up, and there before me was a ram with two horns, standing beside the canal, and the horns were long. One of the horns was longer than the other but grew up later.

4 I watched the ram as it charged toward the west and the north and the south. No animal could stand against it, and none could rescue from its power. It did as it pleased and became great.

5 As I was thinking about this, suddenly a goat with a prominent horn between its eyes came from the west, crossing the whole earth without touching the ground.

6 It came toward the two-horned ram I had seen standing beside the canal and charged at it in great rage.

7 I saw it attack the ram furiously, striking the ram and shattering its two horns. The ram was powerless to stand against it; the goat knocked it to the ground and trampled on it, and none could rescue the ram from its power.

8 The goat became very great, but at the height of its power the large horn was broken off, and in its place four prominent horns grew up toward the four winds of heaven.

9 Out of one of them came another horn, which started small but grew in power to the south and to the east and toward the Beautiful Land.

10 It grew until it reached the host of the heavens, and it threw some of the starry host down to the earth and trampled on them.

11 It set itself up to be as great as the commander of the army of the LORD; it took away the daily sacrifice from the LORD, and his sanctuary was thrown down.

12 Because of rebellion, the LORD’s people and the daily sacrifice were given over to it. It prospered in everything it did, and truth was thrown to the ground.

13 Then I heard a holy one speaking, and another holy one said to him, “How long will it take for the vision to be fulfilled—the vision concerning the daily sacrifice, the rebellion that causes desolation, the surrender of the sanctuary and the trampling underfoot of the LORD’s people?”

14 He said to me, “It will take 2,300 evenings and mornings; then the sanctuary will be reconsecrated.”

15 While I, Daniel, was watching the vision and trying to understand it, there before me stood one who looked like a man.

16 And I heard a man’s voice from the Ulai calling, “Gabriel, tell this man the meaning of the vision.”

17 As he came near the place where I was standing, I was terrified and fell prostrate. “Son of man,” he said to me, “understand that the vision concerns the time of the end.”

18 While he was speaking to me, I was in a deep sleep, with my face to the ground. Then he touched me and raised me to my feet.

19 He said: “I am going to tell you what will happen later in the time of wrath, because the vision concerns the appointed time of the end.

20 The two-horned ram that you saw represents the kings of Media and Persia.

21 The shaggy goat is the king of Greece, and the large horn between its eyes is the first king.

22 The four horns that replaced the one that was broken off represent four kingdoms that will emerge from his nation but will not have the same power.

23 “In the latter part of their reign, when rebels have become completely wicked, a fierce-looking king, a master of intrigue, will arise.

24 He will become very strong, but not by his own power. He will cause astounding devastation and will succeed in whatever he does. He will destroy those who are mighty, the holy people.

25 He will cause deceit to prosper, and he will consider himself superior. When they feel secure, he will destroy many and take his stand against the Prince of princes. Yet he will be destroyed, but not by human power.

26 “The vision of the evenings and mornings that has been given you is true, but seal up the vision, for it concerns the distant future.”

27 I, Daniel, was worn out. I lay exhausted for several days. Then I got up and went about the king’s business. I was appalled by the vision; it was beyond understanding.
