1 Y sucederá que si obedeces diligentemente al SEÑOR tu Dios, cuidando de cumplir todos sus mandamientos que yo te mando hoy, el SEÑOR tu Dios te pondrá en alto sobre todas las naciones de la tierra.

2 Y todas estas bendiciones vendrán sobre ti y te alcanzarán, si obedeces al SEÑOR tu Dios:

3 Bendito serás en la ciudad, y bendito serás en el campo.

4 Bendito el fruto de tu vientre, el producto de tu suelo, el fruto de tu ganado, el aumento de tus vacas y las crías de tus ovejas.

5 Benditas serán tu canasta y tu artesa.

6 Bendito serás cuando entres, y bendito serás cuando salgas.

7 El SEÑOR hará que los enemigos que se levanten contra ti sean derrotados delante de ti; saldrán contra ti por un camino y huirán delante de ti por siete caminos.

8 El SEÑOR mandará que la bendición sea contigo en tus graneros y en todo aquello en que pongas tu mano, y te bendecirá en la tierra que el SEÑOR tu Dios te da.

9 Te establecerá el SEÑOR como pueblo santo para sí, como te juró, si guardas los mandamientos del SEÑOR tu Dios y andas en sus caminos.

10 Entonces verán todos los pueblos de la tierra que sobre ti es invocado el nombre del SEÑOR; y te temerán.

11 Y el SEÑOR te hará abundar en bienes, en el fruto de tu vientre, en el fruto de tu ganado y en el producto de tu suelo, en la tierra que el SEÑOR juró a tus padres que te daría.

12 Abrirá el SEÑOR para ti su buen tesoro, los cielos, para dar lluvia a tu tierra a su tiempo y para bendecir toda la obra de tu mano; y tú prestarás a muchas naciones, pero no tomarás prestado.

13 Y te pondrá el SEÑOR a la cabeza y no a la cola, sólo estarás encima y nunca estarás debajo, si escuchas los mandamientos del SEÑOR tu Dios que te ordeno hoy, para que los guardes cuidadosamente;

14 no te desvíes de ninguna de las palabras que te ordeno hoy, ni a la derecha ni a la izquierda, para ir tras otros dioses y servirles.

15 Pero sucederá que si no obedeces al SEÑOR tu Dios, guardando todos sus mandamientos y estatutos que te ordeno hoy, vendrán sobre ti todas estas maldiciones y te alcanzarán:

16 Maldito serás en la ciudad, y maldito serás en el campo.

17 Malditas serán tu canasta y tu artesa.

18 Maldito el fruto de tu vientre y el producto de tu suelo, el aumento de tu ganado y las crías de tu rebaño.

19 Maldito serás cuando entres y maldito serás cuando salgas.

20 Enviará el SEÑOR sobre ti maldición, confusión y censura en todo lo que emprendas, hasta que seas destruido y hasta que perezcas rápidamente, a causa de la maldad de tus hechos, porque me has abandonado.

21 El SEÑOR hará que la peste se te pegue hasta que te haya consumido de sobre la tierra adonde vas a entrar para poseerla.

22 Te herirá el SEÑOR de tisis, de fiebre, de inflamación y de gran ardor, con la espada , con tizón y con añublo; y te perseguirán hasta que perezcas.

23 Y el cielo que está encima de tu cabeza será de bronce, y la tierra que está debajo de ti, de hierro.

24 Y el SEÑOR hará que la lluvia de tu tierra sea polvo y ceniza; descenderá del cielo sobre ti hasta que seas destruido.

25 El SEÑOR hará que seas derrotado delante de tus enemigos; saldrás contra ellos por un camino, pero huirás por siete caminos delante de ellos, y serás ejemplo de terror para todos los reinos de la tierra.

26 Y tus cadáveres serán alimento para todas las aves del cielo y para los animales de la tierra, y no habrá nadie que los espante.

27 Te herirá el SEÑOR con los furúnculos de Egipto y con tumores, sarna y comezón, de los que no podrás ser sanado.

28 Te herirá el SEÑOR con locura, con ceguera y con turbación de corazón;

29 y andarás a tientas a mediodía como el ciego anda a tientas en la oscuridad, y no serás prosperado en tus caminos; más bien serás oprimido y robado continuamente, sin que nadie te salve.

30 Te desposarás con una mujer, pero otro hombre se acostará con ella; edificarás una casa, pero no habitarás en ella; plantarás una viña, pero no aprovecharás su fruto.

31 Tu buey será degollado delante de tus ojos, pero no comerás de él; tu asno será arrebatado, y no te será devuelto; tu oveja será dada a tus enemigos, y no tendrás quien te salve.

32 Tus hijos y tus hijas serán dados a otro pueblo, mientras tus ojos miran y desfallecen por ellos continuamente, pero no habrá nada que puedas hacer.

33 Un pueblo que no conoces comerá el producto de tu suelo y de todo tu trabajo, y no serás más que un pueblo oprimido y quebrantado todos los días.

34 Y te volverás loco por lo que verán tus ojos.

35 Te herirá el SEÑOR en las rodillas y en las piernas con pústulas malignas de las que no podrás ser sanado, desde la planta de tu pie hasta la coronilla.

36 El SEÑOR te llevará a ti y a tu rey, al que hayas puesto sobre ti, a una nación que ni tú ni tus padres habéis conocido, y allí servirás a otros dioses de madera y de piedra.

37 Y vendrás a ser motivo de horror, proverbio y burla entre todos los pueblos donde el SEÑOR te lleve.

38 Sacarás mucha semilla al campo, pero recogerás poco, porque la langosta la devorará.

39 Plantarás y cultivarás viñas, pero no beberás del vino ni recogerás las uvas, porque el gusano se las comerá.

40 Tendrás olivos por todo tu territorio pero no te ungirás con el aceite, porque tus aceitunas se caerán.

41 Tendrás hijos e hijas, pero no serán tuyos, porque irán al cautiverio.

42 Todos tus árboles y el fruto de tu suelo los consumirá la langosta.

43 El forastero que esté en medio de ti se elevará sobre ti cada vez más alto, pero tú descenderás cada vez más bajo.

44 El te prestará, pero tú no le prestarás a él; él será la cabeza y tú serás la cola.

45 Y todas estas maldiciones vendrán sobre ti y te perseguirán y te alcanzarán hasta que seas destruido, porque tú no escuchaste la voz del SEÑOR tu Dios, no guardando los mandamientos y estatutos que El te mandó.

46 Y serán señal y maravilla sobre ti y sobre tu descendencia para siempre.

47 Por cuanto no serviste al SEÑOR tu Dios con alegría y con gozo de corazón, cuando tenías la abundancia de todas las cosas,

48 por tanto servirás a tus enemigos, los cuales el SEÑOR enviará contra ti, en hambre, en sed, en desnudez y en escasez de todas las cosas; El pondrá yugo de hierro sobre tu cuello hasta que te haya destruido.

49 El SEÑOR levantará contra ti una nación de lejos, desde el extremo de la tierra, que descenderá rauda como águila, una nación cuya lengua no entenderás,

50 una nación de rostro fiero que no tendrá respeto al anciano ni tendrá compasión del niño.

51 Se comerá la cría de tu ganado y el fruto de tu suelo, hasta que seas destruido; tampoco te dejará grano, ni mosto, ni aceite, ni el aumento de tu ganado, ni las crías de tu rebaño, hasta que te haya hecho perecer.

52 Y te pondrá sitio en todas tus ciudades, hasta que tus muros altos y fortificados en los cuales tú confiabas caigan por toda tu tierra; y te sitiará en todas tus ciudades, por toda la tierra que el SEÑOR tu Dios te ha dado.

53 Entonces comerás el fruto de tu vientre, la carne de tus hijos y de tus hijas que el SEÑOR tu Dios te ha dado, en el asedio y en la angustia con que tu enemigo te oprimirá.

54 El hombre que es tierno y muy delicado en medio de ti, será hostil hacia su hermano, hacia la mujer que ama y hacia el resto de sus hijos que le queden,

55 y no dará a ninguno de ellos nada de la carne de sus hijos que se comerá, ya que no le quedará nada en el asedio y en la angustia con que tu enemigo te oprimirá en todas tus ciudades.

56 La mujer tierna y delicada en medio tuyo, que no osaría poner la planta de su pie en tierra por ser delicada y tierna, será hostil hacia el esposo que ama, también hacia su hijo, hacia su hija,

57 hacia la placenta que salga de su seno y hacia los hijos que dé a luz; porque se los comerá en secreto por falta de otra cosa, en el asedio y en la angustia con que tu enemigo te oprimirá en tus ciudades.

58 Si no cuidas de poner en práctica todas las palabras de esta ley que están escritas en este libro, temiendo este nombre glorioso y temible, el SEÑOR tu Dios,

59 entonces el SEÑOR hará horribles tus plagas y las plagas de tus descendientes, plagas severas y duraderas, y enfermedades perniciosas y crónicas.

60 Y traerá de nuevo sobre ti todas las enfermedades de Egipto de las cuales tenías temor, y no te dejarán.

61 También toda enfermedad y toda plaga que no están escritas en el libro de esta ley, el SEÑOR traerá sobre ti hasta que seas destruido.

62 Y quedaréis pocos en número, aunque erais multitud como las estrellas del cielo; porque no obedecisteis al SEÑOR tu Dios.

63 Y sucederá que tal como el SEÑOR se deleitaba en vosotros para prosperaros y multiplicaros, así el SEÑOR se deleitará en vosotros para haceros perecer y destruiros; y seréis arrancados de la tierra en la cual entráis para poseerla.

64 Además, el SEÑOR te dispersará entre todos los pueblos de un extremo de la tierra hasta el otro extremo de la tierra; y allí servirás a otros dioses, de madera y de piedra, que ni tú ni tus padres habéis conocido.

65 Y entre esas naciones no hallarás descanso, y no habrá reposo para la planta de tu pie, sino que allí el SEÑOR te dará un corazón temeroso, desfallecimiento de ojos y desesperación de alma.

66 Y tendrás la vida pendiente de un hilo; y estarás aterrado de noche y de día, y no tendrás seguridad de tu vida.

67 Por la mañana dirás: "¡Oh, si fuera la tarde!" Y por la tarde dirás: "¡Oh, si fuera la mañana!" por causa del espanto de tu corazón con que temerás y por lo que verán tus ojos.

68 Y te hará volver el SEÑOR a Egipto en naves, por el camino del cual yo te había dicho: "Nunca más volverás a verlo." Y allí os ofreceréis en venta como esclavos y esclavas a vuestros enemigos, pero no habrá comprador.

The Message Bible MSG

1 If you listen obediently to the Voice of God, your God, and heartily obey all his commandments that I command you today, God, your God, will place you on high, high above all the nations of the world.

2 All these blessings will come down on you and spread out beyond you because you have responded to the Voice of God, your God:

3 God's blessing inside the city, God's blessing in the country;

4 God's blessing on your children, the crops of your land, the young of your livestock, the calves of your herds, the lambs of your flocks.

5 God's blessing on your basket and bread bowl;

6 God's blessing in your coming in, God's blessing in your going out.

7 God will defeat your enemies who attack you. They'll come at you on one road and run away on seven roads.

8 God will order a blessing on your barns and workplaces; he'll bless you in the land that God, your God, is giving you.

9 God will form you as a people holy to him, just as he promised you, if you keep the commandments of God, your God, and live the way he has shown you.

10 All the peoples on Earth will see you living under the Name of God and hold you in respectful awe.

11 God will lavish you with good things: children from your womb, offspring from your animals, and crops from your land, the land that God promised your ancestors that he would give you.

12 God will throw open the doors of his sky vaults and pour rain on your land on schedule and bless the work you take in hand. You will lend to many nations but you yourself won't have to take out a loan.

13 God will make you the head, not the tail; you'll always be the top dog, never the bottom dog, as you obediently listen to and diligently keep the commands of God, your God, that I am commanding you today.

14 Don't swerve an inch to the right or left from the words that I command you today by going off following and worshiping other gods.

15 Here's what will happen if you don't obediently listen to the Voice of God, your God, and diligently keep all the commandments and guidelines that I'm commanding you today. All these curses will come down hard on you:

16 God's curse in the city, God's curse in the country;

17 God's curse on your basket and bread bowl;

18 God's curse on your children, the crops of your land, the young of your livestock, the calves of your herds, the lambs of your flocks.

19 God's curse in your coming in, God's curse in your going out.

20 God will send The Curse, The Confusion, The Contrariness down on everything you try to do until you've been destroyed and there's nothing left of you - all because of your evil pursuits that led you to abandon me.

21 God will infect you with The Disease, wiping you right off the land that you're going in to possess.

22 God will set consumption and fever and rash and seizures and dehydration and blight and jaundice on you. They'll hunt you down until they kill you.

23 The sky over your head will become an iron roof, the ground under your feet, a slab of concrete.

24 From out of the skies God will rain ash and dust down on you until you suffocate.

25 God will defeat you by enemy attack. You'll come at your enemies on one road and run away on seven roads. All the kingdoms of Earth will see you as a horror.

26 Carrion birds and animals will boldly feast on your dead body with no one to chase them away.

27 God will hit you hard with the boils of Egypt, hemorrhoids, scabs, and an incurable itch.

28 He'll make you go crazy and blind and senile.

29 You'll grope around in the middle of the day like a blind person feeling his way through a lifetime of darkness; you'll never get to where you're going. Not a day will go by that you're not abused and robbed. And no one is going to help you.

30 You'll get engaged to a woman and another man will take her for his mistress; you'll build a house and never live in it; you'll plant a garden and never eat so much as a carrot;

31 you'll watch your ox get butchered and not get a single steak from it; your donkey will be stolen from in front of you and you'll never see it again; your sheep will be sent off to your enemies and no one will lift a hand to help you.

32 Your sons and daughters will be shipped off to foreigners; you'll wear your eyes out looking vainly for them, helpless to do a thing.

33 Your crops and everything you work for will be eaten and used by foreigners; you'll spend the rest of your lives abused and knocked around.

34 What you see will drive you crazy.

35 God will hit you with painful boils on your knees and legs and no healing or relief from head to foot.

36 God will lead you and the king you set over you to a country neither you nor your ancestors have heard of; there you'll worship other gods, no-gods of wood and stone.

37 Among all the peoples where God will take you, you'll be treated as a lesson or a proverb - a horror!

38 You'll plant sacks and sacks of seed in the field but get almost nothing - the grasshoppers will devour it.

39 You'll plant and hoe and prune vineyards but won't drink or put up any wine - the worms will devour them.

40 You'll have groves of olive trees everywhere, but you'll have no oil to rub on your face or hands - the olives will have fallen off.

41 You'll have sons and daughters but they won't be yours for long - they'll go off to captivity.

42 Locusts will take over all your trees and crops.

43 The foreigner who lives among you will climb the ladder, higher and higher, while you go deeper and deeper into the hole.

44 He'll lend to you; you won't lend to him. He'll be the head; you'll be the tail.

45 All these curses are going to come on you. They're going to hunt you down and get you until there's nothing left of you because you didn't obediently listen to the Voice of God, your God, and diligently keep his commandments and guidelines that I commanded you.

46 The curses will serve as signposts, warnings to your children ever after.

47 Because you didn't serve God, your God, out of the joy and goodness of your heart in the great abundance,

48 you'll have to serve your enemies whom God will send against you. Life will be famine and drought, rags and wretchedness; then he'll put an iron yoke on your neck until he's destroyed you.

49 Yes, God will raise up a faraway nation against you, swooping down on you like an eagle, a nation whose language you can't understand,

50 a mean-faced people, cruel to grandmothers and babies alike.

51 They'll ravage the young of your animals and the crops from your fields until you're destroyed. They'll leave nothing behind: no grain, no wine, no oil, no calves, no lambs - and finally, no you.

52 They'll lay siege to you while you're huddled behind your town gates. They'll knock those high, proud walls flat, those walls behind which you felt so safe. They'll lay siege to your fortified cities all over the country, this country that God, your God, has given you.

53 And you'll end up cannibalizing your own sons and daughters that God, your God, has given you. When the suffering from the siege gets extreme, you're going to eat your own babies.

54 The most gentle and caring man among you will turn hard, his eye evil, against his own brother, his cherished wife, and even the rest of his children who are still alive,

55 refusing to share with them a scrap of meat from the cannibal child-stew he is eating. He's lost everything, even his humanity, in the suffering of the siege that your enemy mounts against your fortified towns.

56 And the most gentle and caring woman among you, a woman who wouldn't step on a wildflower, will turn hard, her eye evil, against her cherished husband, against her son, against her daughter,

57 against even the afterbirth of her newborn infants; she plans to eat them in secret - she does eat them! - because she has lost everything, even her humanity, in the suffering of the siege that your enemy mounts against your fortified towns.

58 If you don't diligently keep all the words of this Revelation written in this book, living in holy awe before This Name glorious and terrible, God, your God,

59 then God will pound you with catastrophes, you and your children, huge interminable catastrophes, hideous interminable illnesses.

60 He'll bring back and stick you with every old Egyptian malady that once terrorized you.

61 And yes, every disease and catastrophe imaginable - things not even written in the Book of this Revelation - God will bring on you until you're destroyed.

62 Because you didn't listen obediently to the Voice of God, your God, you'll be left with a few pitiful stragglers in place of the dazzling stars-in-the-heavens multitude you had become.

63 And this is how things will end up: Just as God once enjoyed you, took pleasure in making life good for you, giving you many children, so God will enjoy getting rid of you, clearing you off the Earth. He'll weed you out of the very soil that you are entering in to possess.

64 He'll scatter you to the four winds, from one end of the Earth to the other. You'll worship all kinds of other gods, gods neither you nor your parents ever heard of, wood and stone no-gods.

65 But you won't find a home there, you'll not be able to settle down. God will give you a restless heart, longing eyes, a homesick soul.

66 You will live in constant jeopardy, terrified of every shadow, never knowing what you'll meet around the next corner.

67 In the morning you'll say, "I wish it were evening." In the evening you'll say, "I wish it were morning." Afraid, terrorized at what's coming next, afraid of the unknown, because of the sights you've witnessed.

68 God will ship you back to Egypt by a road I promised you'd never see again. There you'll offer yourselves for sale, both men and women, as slaves to your enemies. And not a buyer to be found.
