1 Estas son las palabras del pacto que el SEÑOR mandó a Moisés que hiciera con los hijos de Israel en la tierra de Moab, además del pacto que El había hecho con ellos en Horeb.

2 Y convocó Moisés a todo Israel y les dijo: Habéis visto todo lo que el SEÑOR hizo delante de vuestros ojos en la tierra de Egipto a Faraón, a todos sus siervos y a toda su tierra,

3 las grandes pruebas que vieron vuestros ojos, aquellas grandes señales y maravillas.

4 Pero hasta el día de hoy el SEÑOR no os ha dado corazón para entender, ni ojos para ver, ni oídos para oír.

5 Yo os he conducido durante cuarenta años en el desierto; no se han gastado los vestidos sobre vosotros y no se ha gastado la sandalia en vuestro pie.

6 No habéis comido pan ni habéis bebido vino ni sidra, para que sepáis que yo soy el SEÑOR vuestro Dios.

7 Cuando llegasteis a este lugar, Sehón, rey de Hesbón, y Og, rey de Basán, salieron a nuestro encuentro para pelear, pero los derrotamos;

8 y tomamos su tierra y la dimos en herencia a los rubenitas, a los gaditas y a la media tribu de Manasés.

9 Guardad, pues, las palabras de este pacto y ponedlas en práctica, para que prosperéis en todo lo que hagáis.

10 Hoy estáis todos vosotros en presencia del SEÑOR vuestro Dios: vuestros jefes, vuestras tribus, vuestros ancianos y vuestros oficiales, todos los hombres de Israel,

11 vuestros pequeños, vuestras mujeres, y el forastero que está dentro de tus campamentos, desde tu leñador hasta el que saca tu agua,

12 para que entres en el pacto con el SEÑOR tu Dios, y en su juramento que el SEÑOR tu Dios hace hoy contigo,

13 a fin de establecerte hoy como su pueblo y que El sea tu Dios, tal como te lo ha dicho y como lo juró a tus padres Abraham, Isaac y Jacob.

14 Y no hago sólo con vosotros este pacto y este juramento,

15 sino también con los que están hoy aquí con nosotros en la presencia del SEÑOR nuestro Dios, y con los que no están hoy aquí con nosotros

16 (pues vosotros sabéis cómo habitamos en la tierra de Egipto y cómo pasamos en medio de las naciones por las cuales habéis pasado,

17 además, habéis visto sus abominaciones y los ídolos de madera y de piedra, de plata y de oro, que tenían con ellos);

18 no sea que haya entre vosotros hombre o mujer, familia o tribu, cuyo corazón se aleje hoy del SEÑOR nuestro Dios para ir y servir a los dioses de aquellas naciones; no sea que haya entre vosotros una raíz que produzca fruto venenoso y ajenjo.

19 Y sucederá que cuando él oiga las palabras de esta maldición, se envanecerá, diciendo: "Tendré paz aunque ande en la terquedad de mi corazón, a fin de destruir la tierra regada junto con la seca."

20 El SEÑOR jamás querrá perdonarlo, sino que la ira del SEÑOR y su celo arderán contra ese hombre, y toda maldición que está escrita en este libro caerá sobre él, y el SEÑOR borrará su nombre de debajo del cielo.

21 Entonces el SEÑOR lo señalará para adversidad de entre todas las tribus de Israel, según todas las maldiciones del pacto que están escritas en este libro de la ley.

22 Y la generación venidera, vuestros hijos que se levanten después de vosotros y el extranjero que venga de tierra lejana, cuando vean las plagas de la tierra y las enfermedades con las que el SEÑOR la ha afligido, dirán:

23 "Toda su tierra es azufre, sal y calcinación, sin sembrar, nada germina y el pasto no crece en ella, como en la destrucción de Sodoma y Gomorra, de Adma y de Zeboim que el SEÑOR destruyó en su ira y en su furor."

24 Y dirán todas las naciones: "¿Por qué ha hecho así el SEÑOR a esta tierra? ¿Por qué esta gran explosión de ira?"

25 Y los hombres dirán: "Porque abandonaron el pacto que el SEÑOR, el Dios de sus padres, hizo con ellos cuando los sacó de la tierra de Egipto.

26 "Y ellos fueron y sirvieron a otros dioses y los adoraron, dioses que no habían conocido y los cuales El no les había dado.

27 "Por eso, ardió la ira del SEÑOR contra aquella tierra, para traer sobre ella toda maldición que está escrita en este libro;

28 y el SEÑOR los desarraigó de su tierra con ira, con furor y con gran enojo, y los arrojó a otra tierra, hasta hoy."

29 Las cosas secretas pertenecen al SEÑOR nuestro Dios, mas las cosas reveladas nos pertenecen a nosotros y a nuestros hijos para siempre, a fin de que guardemos todas las palabras de esta ley.

The Message Bible MSG

1 These are the terms of the Covenant that God commanded Moses to make with the People of Israel in the land of Moab, renewing the Covenant he made with them at Horeb.

2 Moses called all Israel together and said, You've seen with your own eyes everything that God did in Egypt to Pharaoh and his servants, and to the land itself -

3 the massive trials to which you were eyewitnesses, the great signs and miracle-wonders.

4 But God didn't give you an understanding heart or perceptive eyes or attentive ears until right now, this very day.

5 I took you through the wilderness for forty years and through all that time the clothes on your backs didn't wear out, the sandals on your feet didn't wear out,

6 and you lived well without bread and wine and beer, proving to you that I am in fact God, your God.

7 When you arrived here in this place, Sihon king of Heshbon and Og king of Bashan met us primed for war but we beat them.

8 We took their land and gave it as an inheritance to the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh.

9 Diligently keep the words of this Covenant. Do what they say so that you will live well and wisely in every detail.

10 You are all standing here today in the Presence of God, your God - the heads of your tribes, your leaders, your officials, all Israel:

11 your babies, your wives, the resident foreigners in your camps who fetch your firewood and water

12 - ready to cross over into the solemnly sworn Covenant that God, your God, is making with you today,

13 the Covenant that this day confirms that you are his people and he is God, your God, just as he promised you and your ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

14 I'm not making this Covenant and its oath with you alone.

15 I am making it with you who are standing here today in the Presence of God, our God, yes, but also with those who are not here today.

16 You know the conditions in which we lived in Egypt and how we crisscrossed through nations in our travels.

17 You got an eyeful of their obscenities, their wood and stone, silver and gold junk-gods.

18 Don't let down your guard lest even now, today, someone - man or woman, clan or tribe - gets sidetracked from God, our God, and gets involved with the no-gods of the nations; lest some poisonous weed sprout and spread among you,

19 a person who hears the words of the Covenant-oath but exempts himself, thinking, "I'll live just the way I please, thank you," and ends up ruining life for everybody.

20 God won't let him off the hook. God's anger and jealousy will erupt like a volcano against that person. The curses written in this book will bury him. God will delete his name from the records.

21 God will separate him out from all the tribes of Israel for special punishment, according to all the curses of the Covenant written in this Book of Revelation.

22 The next generation, your children who come after you and the foreigner who comes from a far country, will be appalled when they see the widespread devastation, how God made the whole land sick.

23 They'll see a fire-blackened wasteland of brimstone and salt flats, nothing planted, nothing growing, not so much as a blade of grass anywhere - like the overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboiim, which God overthrew in fiery rage.

24 All the nations will ask, "Why did God do this to this country? What on earth could have made him this angry?"

25 Your children will answer, "Because they abandoned the Covenant of the God of their ancestors that he made with them after he got them out of Egypt;

26 they went off and worshiped other gods, submitted to gods they'd never heard of before, gods they had no business dealing with.

27 So God's anger erupted against that land and all the curses written in this book came down on it.

28 God, furiously angry, pulled them, roots and all, out of their land and dumped them in another country, as you can see."

29 God, our God, will take care of the hidden things but the revealed things are our business. It's up to us and our children to attend to all the terms in this Revelation.
