Deuteronomy 11

HNV 1 Therefore you shall love the LORD your God, and keep his charge, and his statutes, and his ordinances, and his mitzvot, always. NIV 1 Love the LORD your God and keep his requirements, his decrees, his laws and his commands always. HNV 2 Know you this day: for I don't speak with your children who have not known, and who have not seen the chastisement of the LORD your God, his greatness, his mighty hand, and his outstretched arm, NIV 2 Remember today that your children were not the ones who saw and experienced the discipline of the LORD your God: his majesty, his mighty hand, his outstretched arm; HNV 3 and his signs, and his works, which he did in the midst of Mitzrayim to Par`oh the king of Mitzrayim, and to all his land; NIV 3 the signs he performed and the things he did in the heart of Egypt, both to Pharaoh king of Egypt and to his whole country; HNV 4 and what he did to the army of Mitzrayim, to their horses, and to their chariots; how he made the water of the Sea of Suf to overflow them as they pursued after you, and how the LORD has destroyed them to this day; NIV 4 what he did to the Egyptian army, to its horses and chariots, how he overwhelmed them with the waters of the Red Sea as they were pursuing you, and how the LORD brought lasting ruin on them. HNV 5 and what he did to you in the wilderness, until you came to this place; NIV 5 It was not your children who saw what he did for you in the wilderness until you arrived at this place, HNV 6 and what he did to Datan and Aviram, the sons of Eli'av, the son of Re'uven; how the eretz opened its mouth, and swallowed them up, and their households, and their tents, and every living thing that followed them, in the midst of all Yisra'el: NIV 6 and what he did to Dathan and Abiram, sons of Eliab the Reubenite, when the earth opened its mouth right in the middle of all Israel and swallowed them up with their households, their tents and every living thing that belonged to them. HNV 7 but your eyes have seen all the great work of the LORD which he did. NIV 7 But it was your own eyes that saw all these great things the LORD has done. HNV 8 Therefore shall you keep all the mitzvah which I command you this day, that you may be strong, and go in and possess the land, where you go over to possess it; NIV 8 Observe therefore all the commands I am giving you today, so that you may have the strength to go in and take over the land that you are crossing the Jordan to possess, HNV 9 and that you may prolong your days in the land, which the LORD swore to your fathers to give to them and to their seed, a land flowing with milk and honey. NIV 9 and so that you may live long in the land the LORD swore to your ancestors to give to them and their descendants, a land flowing with milk and honey. HNV 10 For the land, where you go in to possess it, isn't as the land of Mitzrayim, from whence you came out, where you sowed your seed, and watered it with your foot, as a garden of herbs; NIV 10 The land you are entering to take over is not like the land of Egypt, from which you have come, where you planted your seed and irrigated it by foot as in a vegetable garden. HNV 11 but the land, where you go over to possess it, is a land of hills and valleys, [and] drinks water of the rain of the sky, NIV 11 But the land you are crossing the Jordan to take possession of is a land of mountains and valleys that drinks rain from heaven. HNV 12 a land which the LORD your God cares for: the eyes of the LORD your God are always on it, from the beginning of the year even to the end of the year. NIV 12 It is a land the LORD your God cares for; the eyes of the LORD your God are continually on it from the beginning of the year to its end. HNV 13 It shall happen, if you shall listen diligently to my mitzvot which I command you this day, to love the LORD your God, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul, NIV 13 So if you faithfully obey the commands I am giving you today—to love the LORD your God and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul— HNV 14 that I will give the rain of your land in its season, the former rain and the latter rain, that you may gather in your grain, and your new wine, and your oil. NIV 14 then I will send rain on your land in its season, both autumn and spring rains, so that you may gather in your grain, new wine and olive oil. HNV 15 I will give grass in your fields for your cattle, and you shall eat and be full. NIV 15 I will provide grass in the fields for your cattle, and you will eat and be satisfied. HNV 16 Take heed to yourselves, lest your heart be deceived, and you turn aside, and serve other gods, and worship them; NIV 16 Be careful, or you will be enticed to turn away and worship other gods and bow down to them. HNV 17 and the anger of the LORD be kindled against you, and he shut up the sky, so that there shall be no rain, and the land shall not yield its fruit; and you perish quickly from off the good land which the LORD gives you. NIV 17 Then the LORD’s anger will burn against you, and he will shut up the heavens so that it will not rain and the ground will yield no produce, and you will soon perish from the good land the LORD is giving you. HNV 18 Therefore shall you lay up these my words in your heart and in your soul; and you shall bind them for a sign on your hand, and they shall be for symbols between your eyes. NIV 18 Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. HNV 19 You shall teach them your children, talking of them, when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise up. NIV 19 Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. HNV 20 You shall write them on the door-posts of your house, and on your gates; NIV 20 Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates, HNV 21 that your days may be multiplied, and the days of your children, in the land which the LORD swore to your fathers to give them, as the days of the heavens above the eretz. NIV 21 so that your days and the days of your children may be many in the land the LORD swore to give your ancestors, as many as the days that the heavens are above the earth. HNV 22 For if you shall diligently keep all this mitzvah which I command you, to do it, to love the LORD your God, to walk in all his ways, and to cleave to him; NIV 22 If you carefully observe all these commands I am giving you to follow—to love the LORD your God, to walk in obedience to him and to hold fast to him— HNV 23 then will the LORD drive out all these nations from before you, and you shall dispossess nations greater and mightier than yourselves. NIV 23 then the LORD will drive out all these nations before you, and you will dispossess nations larger and stronger than you. HNV 24 Every place whereon the sole of your foot shall tread shall be yours: from the wilderness, and Levanon, from the river, the river Perat, even to the hinder sea shall be your border. NIV 24 Every place where you set your foot will be yours: Your territory will extend from the desert to Lebanon, and from the Euphrates River to the Mediterranean Sea. HNV 25 There shall no man be able to stand before you: the LORD your God shall lay the fear of you and the dread of you on all the land that you shall tread on, as he has spoken to you. NIV 25 No one will be able to stand against you. The LORD your God, as he promised you, will put the terror and fear of you on the whole land, wherever you go. HNV 26 Behold, I set before you this day a blessing and a curse: NIV 26 See, I am setting before you today a blessing and a curse— HNV 27 the blessing, if you shall listen to the mitzvot of the LORD your God, which I command you this day; NIV 27 the blessing if you obey the commands of the LORD your God that I am giving you today; HNV 28 and the curse, if you shall not listen to the mitzvot of the LORD your God, but turn aside out of the way which I command you this day, to go after other gods, which you have not known. NIV 28 the curse if you disobey the commands of the LORD your God and turn from the way that I command you today by following other gods, which you have not known. HNV 29 It shall happen, when the LORD your God shall bring you into the land where you go to possess it, that you shall set the blessing on Mount Gerizim, and the curse on Mount `Eval. NIV 29 When the LORD your God has brought you into the land you are entering to possess, you are to proclaim on Mount Gerizim the blessings, and on Mount Ebal the curses. HNV 30 Aren't they beyond the Yarden, behind the way of the going down of the sun, in the land of the Kana`anim who dwell in the `Aravah, over against Gilgal, beside the oaks of Moreh? NIV 30 As you know, these mountains are across the Jordan, westward, toward the setting sun, near the great trees of Moreh, in the territory of those Canaanites living in the Arabah in the vicinity of Gilgal. HNV 31 For you are to pass over the Yarden to go in to possess the land which the LORD your God gives you, and you shall possess it, and dwell therein. NIV 31 You are about to cross the Jordan to enter and take possession of the land the LORD your God is giving you. When you have taken it over and are living there, HNV 32 You shall observe to do all the statutes and the ordinances which I set before you this day. NIV 32 be sure that you obey all the decrees and laws I am setting before you today.
