Deuteronomy 11

NCV 1 Love the Lord your God and always obey his orders, rules, laws, and commands. NIV 1 Love the LORD your God and keep his requirements, his decrees, his laws and his commands always. NCV 2 Remember today it was not your children who saw and felt the correction of the Lord your God. They did not see his majesty, his power, his strength, NIV 2 Remember today that your children were not the ones who saw and experienced the discipline of the LORD your God: his majesty, his mighty hand, his outstretched arm; NCV 3 or his signs and the things he did in Egypt to the king and his whole country. NIV 3 the signs he performed and the things he did in the heart of Egypt, both to Pharaoh king of Egypt and to his whole country; NCV 4 They did not see what he did to the Egyptian army, its horses and chariots, when he drowned them in the Red Sea as they were chasing you. The Lord ruined them forever. NIV 4 what he did to the Egyptian army, to its horses and chariots, how he overwhelmed them with the waters of the Red Sea as they were pursuing you, and how the LORD brought lasting ruin on them. NCV 5 They did not see what he did for you in the desert until you arrived here. NIV 5 It was not your children who saw what he did for you in the wilderness until you arrived at this place, NCV 6 They did not see what he did to Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab the Reubenite, when the ground opened up and swallowed them, their families, their tents, and everyone who stood with them in Israel. NIV 6 and what he did to Dathan and Abiram, sons of Eliab the Reubenite, when the earth opened its mouth right in the middle of all Israel and swallowed them up with their households, their tents and every living thing that belonged to them. NCV 7 It was you who saw all these great things the Lord has done. NIV 7 But it was your own eyes that saw all these great things the LORD has done. NCV 8 So obey all the commands I am giving you today so that you will be strong and can go in and take the land you are going to take as your own. NIV 8 Observe therefore all the commands I am giving you today, so that you may have the strength to go in and take over the land that you are crossing the Jordan to possess, NCV 9 Then you will live a long time in the land that the Lord promised to give to your ancestors and their descendants, a fertile land. NIV 9 and so that you may live long in the land the LORD swore to your ancestors to give to them and their descendants, a land flowing with milk and honey. NCV 10 The land you are going to take is not like Egypt, where you were. There you had to plant your seed and water it, like a vegetable garden, by using your feet. NIV 10 The land you are entering to take over is not like the land of Egypt, from which you have come, where you planted your seed and irrigated it by foot as in a vegetable garden. NCV 11 But the land that you will soon cross the Jordan River to take is a land of hills and valleys, a land that drinks rain from heaven. NIV 11 But the land you are crossing the Jordan to take possession of is a land of mountains and valleys that drinks rain from heaven. NCV 12 It is a land the Lord your God cares for. His eyes are on it continually, and he watches it from the beginning of the year to the end. NIV 12 It is a land the LORD your God cares for; the eyes of the LORD your God are continually on it from the beginning of the year to its end. NCV 13 If you carefully obey the commands I am giving you today and love the Lord your God and serve him with your whole being, NIV 13 So if you faithfully obey the commands I am giving you today—to love the LORD your God and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul— NCV 14 then he will send rain on your land at the right time, in the fall and spring, and you will be able to gather your grain, new wine, and oil. NIV 14 then I will send rain on your land in its season, both autumn and spring rains, so that you may gather in your grain, new wine and olive oil. NCV 15 He will put grass in the fields for your cattle, and you will have plenty to eat. NIV 15 I will provide grass in the fields for your cattle, and you will eat and be satisfied. NCV 16 Be careful, or you will be fooled and will turn away to serve and worship other gods. NIV 16 Be careful, or you will be enticed to turn away and worship other gods and bow down to them. NCV 17 If you do, the Lord will become angry with you and will shut the heavens so it will not rain. Then the land will not grow crops, and you will soon die in the good land the Lord is giving you. NIV 17 Then the LORD’s anger will burn against you, and he will shut up the heavens so that it will not rain and the ground will yield no produce, and you will soon perish from the good land the LORD is giving you. NCV 18 Remember my words with your whole being. Write them down and tie them to your hands as a sign; tie them on your foreheads to remind you. NIV 18 Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. NCV 19 Teach them well to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. NIV 19 Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. NCV 20 Write them on your doors and gates NIV 20 Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates, NCV 21 so that both you and your children will live a long time in the land the Lord promised your ancestors, as long as the skies are above the earth. NIV 21 so that your days and the days of your children may be many in the land the LORD swore to give your ancestors, as many as the days that the heavens are above the earth. NCV 22 If you are careful to obey every command I am giving you to follow, and love the Lord your God, and do what he has told you to do, and are loyal to him, NIV 22 If you carefully observe all these commands I am giving you to follow—to love the LORD your God, to walk in obedience to him and to hold fast to him— NCV 23 then the Lord will force all those nations out of the land ahead of you, and you will take the land from nations that are bigger and stronger than you. NIV 23 then the LORD will drive out all these nations before you, and you will dispossess nations larger and stronger than you. NCV 24 Everywhere you step will be yours. Your land will go from the desert to Lebanon and from the Euphrates River to the Mediterranean Sea. NIV 24 Every place where you set your foot will be yours: Your territory will extend from the desert to Lebanon, and from the Euphrates River to the Mediterranean Sea. NCV 25 No one will be able to stop you. The Lord your God will do what he promised and will make the people afraid everywhere you go. NIV 25 No one will be able to stand against you. The LORD your God, as he promised you, will put the terror and fear of you on the whole land, wherever you go. NCV 26 See, today I am letting you choose a blessing or a curse. NIV 26 See, I am setting before you today a blessing and a curse— NCV 27 You will be blessed if you obey the commands of the Lord your God that I am giving you today. NIV 27 the blessing if you obey the commands of the LORD your God that I am giving you today; NCV 28 But you will be cursed if you disobey the commands of the Lord your God. So do not disobey the commands I am giving you today, and do not worship other gods you do not know. NIV 28 the curse if you disobey the commands of the LORD your God and turn from the way that I command you today by following other gods, which you have not known. NCV 29 When the Lord your God brings you into the land you will take as your own, you are to announce the blessings from Mount Gerizim and the curses from Mount Ebal. NIV 29 When the LORD your God has brought you into the land you are entering to possess, you are to proclaim on Mount Gerizim the blessings, and on Mount Ebal the curses. NCV 30 (These mountains are on the other side of the Jordan River, to the west, toward the sunset. They are near the great trees of Moreh in the land of the Canaanites who live in the Jordan Valley opposite Gilgal.) NIV 30 As you know, these mountains are across the Jordan, westward, toward the setting sun, near the great trees of Moreh, in the territory of those Canaanites living in the Arabah in the vicinity of Gilgal. NCV 31 You will soon cross the Jordan River to enter and take the land the Lord your God is giving you. When you take it over and live there, NIV 31 You are about to cross the Jordan to enter and take possession of the land the LORD your God is giving you. When you have taken it over and are living there, NCV 32 be careful to obey all the commands and laws I am giving you today. NIV 32 be sure that you obey all the decrees and laws I am setting before you today.
