1 Yo, pues, prisionero del Señor, os ruego que viváis de una manera digna de la vocación con que habéis sido llamados,

2 con toda humildad y mansedumbre, con paciencia, soportándoos unos a otros en amor,

3 esforzándoos por preservar la unidad del Espíritu en el vínculo de la paz.

4 Hay un solo cuerpo y un solo Espíritu, así como también vosotros fuisteis llamados en una misma esperanza de vuestra vocación;

5 un solo Señor, una sola fe, un solo bautismo,

6 un solo Dios y Padre de todos, que está sobre todos, por todos y en todos.

7 Pero a cada uno de nosotros se nos ha concedido la gracia conforme a la medida del don de Cristo.

8 Por tanto, dice: CUANDO ASCENDIO A LO ALTO, LLEVO CAUTIVA UNA HUESTE DE CAUTIVOS, Y DIO DONES A LOS HOMBRES.

9 (Esta expresión: Ascendió, ¿qué significa, sino que El también había descendido a las profundidades de la tierra?

10 El que descendió es también el mismo que ascendió mucho más arriba de todos los cielos, para poder llenarlo todo.)

11 Y El dio a algunos el ser apóstoles, a otros profetas, a otros evangelistas, a otros pastores y maestros,

12 a fin de capacitar a los santos para la obra del ministerio, para la edificación del cuerpo de Cristo;

13 hasta que todos lleguemos a la unidad de la fe y del conocimiento pleno del Hijo de Dios, a la condición de un hombre maduro, a la medida de la estatura de la plenitud de Cristo;

14 para que ya no seamos niños, sacudidos por las olas y llevados de aquí para allá por todo viento de doctrina, por la astucia de los hombres, por las artimañas engañosas del error;

15 sino que hablando la verdad en amor, crezcamos en todos los aspectos en aquel que es la cabeza, es decir, Cristo,

16 de quien todo el cuerpo (estando bien ajustado y unido por la cohesión que las coyunturas proveen), conforme al funcionamiento adecuado de cada miembro, produce el crecimiento del cuerpo para su propia edificación en amor.

17 Esto digo, pues, y afirmo juntamente con el Señor: que ya no andéis así como andan también los gentiles, en la vanidad de su mente,

18 entenebrecidos en su entendimiento, excluidos de la vida de Dios por causa de la ignorancia que hay en ellos, por la dureza de su corazón;

19 y ellos, habiendo llegado a ser insensibles, se entregaron a la sensualidad para cometer con avidez toda clase de impurezas.

20 Pero vosotros no habéis aprendido a Cristo de esta manera,

21 si en verdad lo oísteis y habéis sido enseñados en El, conforme a la verdad que hay en Jesús,

22 que en cuanto a vuestra anterior manera de vivir, os despojéis del viejo hombre, que se corrompe según los deseos engañosos,

23 y que seáis renovados en el espíritu de vuestra mente,

24 y os vistáis del nuevo hombre, el cual, en la semejanza de Dios, ha sido creado en la justicia y santidad de la verdad.

25 Por tanto, dejando a un lado la falsedad, HABLAD VERDAD CADA CUAL CON SU PROJIMO, porque somos miembros los unos de los otros.

26 AIRAOS, PERO NO PEQUEIS; no se ponga el sol sobre vuestro enojo,

27 ni deis oportunidad al diablo.

28 El que roba, no robe más, sino más bien que trabaje, haciendo con sus manos lo que es bueno, a fin de que tenga qué compartir con el que tiene necesidad.

29 No salga de vuestra boca ninguna palabra mala, sino sólo la que sea buena para edificación, según la necesidad del momento, para que imparta gracia a los que escuchan.

30 Y no entristezcáis al Espíritu Santo de Dios, por el cual fuisteis sellados para el día de la redención.

31 Sea quitada de vosotros toda amargura, enojo, ira, gritos, maledicencia, así como toda malicia.

32 Sed más bien amables unos con otros, misericordiosos, perdonándoos unos a otros, así como también Dios os perdonó en Cristo.

1 Therefore I bound for the Lord beseech you, that ye walk worthily in the calling, in which ye be called,

2 with all meekness and mildness, with patience supporting each other in charity [with patience supporting, or up-bearing, together in charity],

3 busy to keep unity of Spirit in the bond of peace.

4 One body and one Spirit, as ye be called in one hope of your calling;

5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism,

6 one God and Father of all, which is above all men, and by all things, and in us all.

7 But to each of us grace is given by the measure of the giving of Christ [after the measure of the giving of Christ];

8 for which thing he saith, He ascending on high, led captivity captive, he gave gifts to men.

9 But what is it, that he ascended up, no but that also he came down first into the lower parts of the earth? [Forsooth that he ascended, what is it, no but for he descended first into the lower parts of the earth?]

10 He it is that came down, and that ascended [up] on all heavens, that he should fill all things.

11 And he gave some apostles, some prophets, others evangelists, others shepherds and teachers,

12 to the full ending of saints, into the work of ministry, into [the] edification of Christ's body,

13 till we run all, into unity of faith and of knowing of God's Son, into a perfect man, after the measure of the age of the plenty of Christ; [till we run all, in unity of faith and of knowing of God's Son, into a perfect man, into the measure of age of the plenty of Christ;]

18 that have understanding darkened with darknesses [having their understanding darkened], and be aliened from the life of God, by ignorance that is in them, for the blindness of their heart.

19 Which despairing betook themselves to unchastity, into the working of all uncleanness in covetousness.

20 But ye have not so learned Christ,

21 if nevertheless ye heard him, and be taught in him, as is truth in Jesus.

22 Do ye away by the old living the old man, that is corrupt by the desires of error; [Do ye away after the first living the old man, that is corrupt after the desires of error;]

23 and be ye renewed in the spirit of your soul; [+forsooth be ye renewed, or made new again, by the spirit of your mind;]

24 and clothe ye the new man, which is made after God in rightwiseness and holiness of truth. [and clothe ye the new man, which after God is made of nought in rightwiseness and holiness of truth.]

25 For which thing put ye away lying, and speak ye truth each man with his neighbour, for we be members each to other. [For which thing putting away lying, speak truth each man with his neighbour, for we be members together.]

26 Be ye wroth, and do not do sin; the sun fall not down on your wrath [the sun fall not down upon your wrath].

27 Do not ye give stead to the devil.

28 He that stole, now steal he not; but more rather travail he in working with his hands that that is good, that he have whereof he shall give to the needy. [He that stole, now steal not; but more travail he in working with his hands that that is good thing, that he have whereof he shall give to a man suffering need.]

29 Each evil word go not out of your mouth; but if any is good to the edification of faith, that it give grace to men that hear [that it give grace to men hearing].

30 And do not ye make the Holy Ghost of God sorry [And do not ye make the Holy Ghost of God sorry, or heavy], in which ye be marked in the day of redemption.

31 All bitterness, and wrath, and indignation, and cry, and blasphemy be taken away from you, with all malice;

32 and be ye together benign [forsooth be ye together benign, or of good will], merciful, forgiving together, as also God forgave to you in Christ.
