1 Y aconteció al tercer día que Ester se vistió con sus vestiduras reales y se puso en el atrio interior del palacio del rey delante de los aposentos del rey, y el rey estaba sentado en su trono real en el aposento del trono, frente a la entrada del palacio.

2 Y cuando el rey vio a la reina Ester de pie en el atrio, ella obtuvo gracia ante sus ojos; y el rey extendió hacia Ester el cetro de oro que estaba en su mano. Ester entonces se acercó y tocó el extremo del cetro.

3 Y el rey le dijo: ¿Qué te preocupa, reina Ester? ¿Y cuál es tu petición? Hasta la mitad del reino se te dará.

4 Ester respondió: Si le place al rey, venga hoy el rey con Amán al banquete que le he preparado.

5 Entonces el rey dijo: Traed pronto a Amán para que hagamos como Ester desea. Y el rey vino con Amán al banquete que Ester había preparado.

6 Y mientras bebían el vino en el banquete, el rey dijo a Ester: ¿Cuál es tu petición?, pues te será concedida. ¿Y cuál es tu deseo? Aun hasta la mitad del reino, se te dará.

7 Respondió Ester, y dijo: Mi petición y mi deseo es:

8 si he hallado gracia ante los ojos del rey, y si le place al rey conceder mi petición y hacer lo que yo pido, que venga el rey con Amán al banquete que yo les prepararé, y mañana haré conforme a la palabra del rey.

9 Salió Amán aquel día alegre y con corazón contento; pero cuando Amán vio a Mardoqueo en la puerta del rey y que éste no se levantaba ni temblaba delante de él, Amán se llenó de furor contra Mardoqueo.

10 Amán, sin embargo, se contuvo, fue a su casa, y mandó traer a sus amigos y a su mujer Zeres.

11 Entonces Amán les contó la gloria de sus riquezas, la multitud de sus hijos, y todas las ocasiones en que el rey le había engrandecido, y cómo le había exaltado sobre los príncipes y siervos del rey.

12 Y Amán añadió: Aun la reina Ester no permitió que nadie, excepto yo, viniera con el rey al banquete que ella había preparado; y también para mañana estoy invitado por ella junto con el rey.

13 Sin embargo nada de esto me satisface mientras vea al judío Mardoqueo sentado a la puerta del rey.

14 Su mujer Zeres y todos sus amigos le dijeron: Haz que se prepare una horca de cincuenta codos de alto, y por la mañana pide al rey que ahorquen a Mardoqueo en ella; entonces ve gozoso con el rey al banquete. Y el consejo agradó a Amán, e hizo preparar la horca.

1 Three days later Esther dressed in her royal robes and took up a position in the inner court of the palace in front of the king's throne room. The king was on his throne facing the entrance.

2 When he noticed Queen Esther standing in the court, he was pleased to see her; the king extended the gold scepter in his hand. Esther approached and touched the tip of the scepter.

3 The king asked, "And what's your desire, Queen Esther? What do you want? Ask and it's yours - even if it's half my kingdom!"

4 "If it please the king," said Esther, "let the king come with Haman to a dinner I've prepared for him."

5 "Get Haman at once," said the king, "so we can go to dinner with Esther."

6 As they were drinking the wine, the king said, "Now, what is it you want? Half of my kingdom isn't too much to ask! Just ask."

7 Esther answered, "Here's what I want.

8 If the king favors me and is pleased to do what I desire and ask, let the king and Haman come again tomorrow to the dinner that I will fix for them. Then I'll give a straight answer to the king's question."

9 Haman left the palace that day happy, beaming. And then he saw Mordecai sitting at the King's Gate ignoring him, oblivious to him. Haman was furious with Mordecai.

10 But he held himself in and went on home. He got his friends together with his wife Zeresh

11 and started bragging about how much money he had, his many sons, all the times the king had honored him, and his promotion to the highest position in the government.

12 "On top of all that," Haman continued, "Queen Esther invited me to a private dinner she gave for the king, just the three of us. And she's invited me to another one tomorrow.

13 But I can't enjoy any of it when I see Mordecai the Jew sitting at the King's Gate."

14 His wife Zeresh and all his friends said, "Build a gallows seventy-five feet high. First thing in the morning speak with the king; get him to order Mordecai hanged on it. Then happily go with the king to dinner." Haman liked that. He had the gallows built.
