1 Móxī de yuèfù , Mǐdiàn jìsī Yètèluō , tīngjian shén wèi Móxī hé shén de bǎixìng Yǐsèliè suǒ xíng de yīqiè shì , jiù shì Yēhéhuá jiàng Yǐsèliè cóng Āijí lǐng chūlai de shì ,
1 Now Jethro, the priest of Midian and father-in-law of Moses, heard of everything God had done for Moses and for his people Israel, and how the LORD had brought Israel out of Egypt.
2 Biàn daì zhe Móxī de qīzi Xīpōlā , jiù shì Móxī cóng qián dǎfa huí qù de ,
2 After Moses had sent away his wife Zipporah, his father-in-law Jethro received her
3 Yòu daì zhe Xīpōlā de liǎng gè érzi , yī gè míng jiào Géshùn , yīnwei Móxī shuō , wǒ zaì waì bāng zuò le jìjū de ,
3 and her two sons. One son was named Gershom, for Moses said, “I have become a foreigner in a foreign land”;
4 Yī gè míng jiào Yǐlìyǐxiè , yīnwei tā shuō , wǒ fùqin de shén bāngzhu le wǒ , jiù wǒ tuōlí fǎlǎo de dāo .
4 and the other was named Eliezer, for he said, “My father’s God was my helper; he saved me from the sword of Pharaoh.”
5 Móxī de yuèfù Yètèluō daì zhe Móxī de qīzi hé liǎng gè érzi lái dào shén de shān , jiù shì Móxī zaì kuàngyĕ ān yíng de dìfang .
5 Jethro, Moses’ father-in-law, together with Moses’ sons and wife, came to him in the wilderness, where he was camped near the mountain of God.
6 Tā duì Móxī shuō , wǒ shì nǐ yuèfù Yètèluō , daì zhe nǐde qīzi hé liǎng gè érzi lái dào nǐ zhèlǐ .
6 Jethro had sent word to him, “I, your father-in-law Jethro, am coming to you with your wife and her two sons.”
7 Móxī yíngjiē tāde yuèfù , xiàng tā xià baì , yǔ tā qīnzuǐ, bǐcǐ wèn ān , dōu jìn le zhàngpéng .
7 So Moses went out to meet his father-in-law and bowed down and kissed him. They greeted each other and then went into the tent.
8 Móxī jiàng Yēhéhuá wèi Yǐsèliè de yuángù xiàng fǎlǎo hé Āijí rén suǒ xíng de yīqiè shì , yǐjí lù shàng suǒ zāoyù de yīqiè jiān nán , bìng Yēhéhuá zĕnyàng dājiù tāmen , dōu shùshuō yǔ tā yuèfù tīng .
8 Moses told his father-in-law about everything the LORD had done to Pharaoh and the Egyptians for Israel’s sake and about all the hardships they had met along the way and how the LORD had saved them.
9 Yètèluō yīn Yēhéhuá daì Yǐsèliè de yīqiè hǎo chù , jiù shì zhĕngjiù tāmen tuōlí Āijí rén de shǒu , biàn shèn huānxǐ .
9 Jethro was delighted to hear about all the good things the LORD had done for Israel in rescuing them from the hand of the Egyptians.
10 Yètèluō shuō , Yēhéhuá shì yīngdāng chēngsòng de , tā jiù le nǐmen tuōlí Āijí rén hé fǎlǎo de shǒu , jiàng zhè bǎixìng cóng Āijí rén de shǒu xià jiù chūlai .
10 He said, “Praise be to the LORD, who rescued you from the hand of the Egyptians and of Pharaoh, and who rescued the people from the hand of the Egyptians.
11 Wǒ xiànjīn zaì Āijí rén xiàng zhè bǎixìng fā kuángào de shì shàng de zhì , Yēhéhuá bǐ wàn shén dōu dà .
11 Now I know that the LORD is greater than all other gods, for he did this to those who had treated Israel arrogantly.”
12 Móxī de yuèfù Yètèluō bǎ Fánjì hépíng ān jì xiàn gĕi shén . Yàlún hé Yǐsèliè de zhòng zhǎnglǎo dōu lái le , yǔ Móxī de yuèfù zaì shén miànqián chī fàn .
12 Then Jethro, Moses’ father-in-law, brought a burnt offering and other sacrifices to God, and Aaron came with all the elders of Israel to eat a meal with Moses’ father-in-law in the presence of God.
13 Dì èr tiān , Móxī zuò zhe shĕnpàn bǎixìng , bǎixìng cóng zǎo dào wǎn dōu zhàn zaì Móxī de zuǒyòu .
13 The next day Moses took his seat to serve as judge for the people, and they stood around him from morning till evening.
14 Móxī de yuèfù kànjian tā xiàng bǎixìng suǒ zuò de yīqiè shì , jiù shuō , nǐ xiàng bǎixìng zuò de shì shénme shì ne , nǐ wèishénme dúzì zuò zhe , zhòng bǎixìng cóng zǎo dào wǎn dōu zhàn zaì nǐde zuǒyòu ne .
14 When his father-in-law saw all that Moses was doing for the people, he said, “What is this you are doing for the people? Why do you alone sit as judge, while all these people stand around you from morning till evening?”
15 Móxī duì yuèfù shuō , zhè shì yīn bǎixìng dào wǒ zhèlǐ lái qiú wèn shén .
15 Moses answered him, “Because the people come to me to seek God’s will.
16 Tāmen yǒu shì de shíhou jiù dào wǒ zhèlǐ lái , wǒ biàn zaì liǎng zào zhī jiàn shīxíng shĕnpàn , wǒ yòu jiào tāmen zhīdào shén de lǜLìhé fǎdù .
16 Whenever they have a dispute, it is brought to me, and I decide between the parties and inform them of God’s decrees and instructions.”
17 Móxī de yuèfù shuō , nǐ zhè zuò de bú hǎo .
17 Moses’ father-in-law replied, “What you are doing is not good.
18 Nǐ hé zhèxie bǎixìng bì dōu píbeì , yīnwei zhè shì taì zhòng , nǐ dúzì yī rén bànlǐ bù le .
18 You and these people who come to you will only wear yourselves out. The work is too heavy for you; you cannot handle it alone.
19 Xiànzaì nǐ yào tīng wǒde huà . wǒ wèi nǐ chū gè zhǔyì , yuàn shén yǔ nǐ tóng zaì . nǐ yào tì bǎixìng dào shén miànqián , jiàng ànjiàn zòu gào shén ,
19 Listen now to me and I will give you some advice, and may God be with you. You must be the people’s representative before God and bring their disputes to him.
20 Yòu yào jiàng lǜLìhé fǎdù jiàoxun tāmen , zhǐshì tāmen dàng xíng de dào , dàng zuò de shì ,
20 Teach them his decrees and instructions, and show them the way they are to live and how they are to behave.
21 Bìng yào cóng bǎixìng zhōng jiǎnxuǎn yǒu cáinéng de rén , jiù shì jìngwèi shén , chéngshí wú wàng , hèn bú yì zhī cái de rén , paì tāmen zuò qiā fú zhǎng , bǎifūzhǎng , wǔ shí fú zhǎng , shí fú zhǎng , guǎnlǐ bǎixìng ,
21 But select capable men from all the people—men who fear God, trustworthy men who hate dishonest gain—and appoint them as officials over thousands, hundreds, fifties and tens.
22 Jiào tāmen suí shí shĕnpàn bǎixìng , dà shì dōu yào chéng dào nǐ zhèlǐ , xiǎoshì tāmen zìjǐ kĕyǐ shĕnpàn . zhèyàng , nǐ jiù qīng shĕng xiē , tāmen yĕ kĕyǐ tóng dàng cǐ rèn .
22 Have them serve as judges for the people at all times, but have them bring every difficult case to you; the simple cases they can decide themselves. That will make your load lighter, because they will share it with you.
23 Nǐ ruò zhèyàng xíng , shén yĕ zhèyàng fēnfu nǐ , nǐ jiù néng shòu de zhù , zhè bǎixìng yĕ dōu píng píngān ān guī huí tāmende zhù chǔ .
23 If you do this and God so commands, you will be able to stand the strain, and all these people will go home satisfied.”
24 Yúshì , Móxī tīng cóng tā yuèfù de huà , àn zhe tā suǒ shuō de qù xíng .
24 Moses listened to his father-in-law and did everything he said.
25 Móxī cóng Yǐsèliè rén zhōng jiǎnxuǎn le yǒu cáinéng de rén , lì tāmen wèi bǎixìng de shǒulǐng , zuò qiā fú zhǎng , bǎifūzhǎng , wǔ shí fú zhǎng , shí fú zhǎng .
25 He chose capable men from all Israel and made them leaders of the people, officials over thousands, hundreds, fifties and tens.
26 Tāmen suí shí shĕnpàn bǎixìng , yǒu nán duàn de ànjiàn jiù chéng dào Móxī nàli , dàn gèyàng xiǎoshì tāmen zìjǐ shĕnpàn .
26 They served as judges for the people at all times. The difficult cases they brought to Moses, but the simple ones they decided themselves.
27 Cǐ hòu , Móxī ràng tāde yuèfù qù , tā jiù wǎng bĕn dì qù le .
27 Then Moses sent his father-in-law on his way, and Jethro returned to his own country.
