Ezekiel 28

CSB 1 The word of the Lord came to me: NIV 1 The word of the LORD came to me: CSB 2 "Son of man, say to the ruler of Tyre: This is what the Lord God says: Your heart is proud, and you have said: I am a god; I sit in the seat of gods in the heart of the sea. Yet you are a man and not a god, though you have regarded your heart as that of a god. NIV 2 “Son of man, say to the ruler of Tyre, ‘This is what the Sovereign LORD says: “ ‘In the pride of your heart you say, “I am a god; I sit on the throne of a god in the heart of the seas.” But you are a mere mortal and not a god, though you think you are as wise as a god. CSB 3 Yes, you are wiser than Daniel; no secret is hidden from you! NIV 3 Are you wiser than Daniel ? Is no secret hidden from you? CSB 4 By your wisdom and understanding you have acquired wealth for yourself. You have acquired gold and silver for your treasuries. NIV 4 By your wisdom and understanding you have gained wealth for yourself and amassed gold and silver in your treasuries. CSB 5 By your great skill in trading you have increased your wealth, but your heart has become proud because of your wealth." NIV 5 By your great skill in trading you have increased your wealth, and because of your wealth your heart has grown proud. CSB 6 Therefore this is what the Lord God says: Because you regard your heart as that of a god, NIV 6 “ ‘Therefore this is what the Sovereign LORD says: “ ‘Because you think you are wise, as wise as a god, CSB 7 I am about to bring strangers against you, ruthless men from the nations. They will draw their swords against your magnificent wisdom and will defile your splendor. NIV 7 I am going to bring foreigners against you, the most ruthless of nations; they will draw their swords against your beauty and wisdom and pierce your shining splendor. CSB 8 They will bring you down to the Pit, and you will die a violent death in the heart of the sea. NIV 8 They will bring you down to the pit, and you will die a violent death in the heart of the seas. CSB 9 Will you still say: I am a god, in the presence of those who kill you? Yet you will be [shown to be] a man, not a god, in the hands of those who kill you. NIV 9 Will you then say, “I am a god,” in the presence of those who kill you? You will be but a mortal, not a god, in the hands of those who slay you. CSB 10 You will die the death of the uncircumcised at the hands of strangers. For I have spoken. [This is]*The bracketed text has been added for clarity. the declaration of the Lord God . NIV 10 You will die the death of the uncircumcised at the hands of foreigners. I have spoken, declares the Sovereign LORD.’ ” CSB 11 The word of the Lord came to me: NIV 11 The word of the LORD came to me: CSB 12 "Son of man, lament for the king of Tyre and say to him: This is what the Lord God says: You were the seal of perfection, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty. NIV 12 “Son of man, take up a lament concerning the king of Tyre and say to him: ‘This is what the Sovereign LORD says: “ ‘You were the seal of perfection, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty. CSB 13 You were in Eden, the garden of God. Every kind of precious stone covered you: carnelian, topaz, and diamond, beryl, onyx, and jasper, sapphire, turquoise and emerald. Your mountings and settings were crafted in gold; they were prepared on the day you were created. NIV 13 You were in Eden, the garden of God; every precious stone adorned you: carnelian, chrysolite and emerald, topaz, onyx and jasper, lapis lazuli, turquoise and beryl.Your settings and mountings were made of gold; on the day you were created they were prepared. CSB 14 You were an anointed guardian cherub, for I had appointed you. You were on the holy mountain of God; you walked among the fiery stones. NIV 14 You were anointed as a guardian cherub, for so I ordained you. You were on the holy mount of God; you walked among the fiery stones. CSB 15 From the day you were created you were blameless in your ways until wickedness was found in you. NIV 15 You were blameless in your ways from the day you were created till wickedness was found in you. CSB 16 Through the abundance of your trade, you were filled with violence, and you sinned. So I expelled you in disgrace from the mountain of God, and banished you, guardian cherub, from among the fiery stones. NIV 16 Through your widespread trade you were filled with violence, and you sinned. So I drove you in disgrace from the mount of God, and I expelled you, guardian cherub, from among the fiery stones. CSB 17 Your heart became proud because of your beauty; For the sake of your splendor you corrupted your wisdom. So I threw you down to the earth; I made a spectacle of you before kings. NIV 17 Your heart became proud on account of your beauty, and you corrupted your wisdom because of your splendor. So I threw you to the earth; I made a spectacle of you before kings. CSB 18 You profaned your sanctuaries by the magnitude of your iniquities in your dishonest trade. So I sent out fire from within you, and it consumed you. I reduced you to ashes on the ground in the sight of everyone watching you. NIV 18 By your many sins and dishonest trade you have desecrated your sanctuaries. So I made a fire come out from you, and it consumed you, and I reduced you to ashes on the ground in the sight of all who were watching. CSB 19 All those who know you among the nations are appalled at you. You have become an object of horror and will never exist again." NIV 19 All the nations who knew you are appalled at you; you have come to a horrible end and will be no more.’ ” CSB 20 The word of the Lord came to me: NIV 20 The word of the LORD came to me: CSB 21 "Son of man, turn your face toward Sidon and prophesy against it. NIV 21 “Son of man, set your face against Sidon; prophesy against her CSB 22 You are to say: This is what the Lord God says: Look! I am against you, Sidon, and I will display My glory within you. They will know that I am the Lord when I execute judgments against her and demonstrate My holiness through her. NIV 22 and say: ‘This is what the Sovereign LORD says: “ ‘I am against you, Sidon, and among you I will display my glory. You will know that I am the LORD, when I inflict punishment on you and within you am proved to be holy. CSB 23 I will send a plague against her and bloodshed in her streets; the slain will fall within her, while the sword is against her on every side. Then they will know that I am the Lord. NIV 23 I will send a plague upon you and make blood flow in your streets. The slain will fall within you, with the sword against you on every side. Then you will know that I am the LORD. CSB 24 "The house of Israel will no longer be hurt by prickling briers or painful thorns from all their neighbors who treat them with contempt. Then they will know that I am the Lord God . NIV 24 “ ‘No longer will the people of Israel have malicious neighbors who are painful briers and sharp thorns. Then they will know that I am the Sovereign LORD. CSB 25 "This is what the Lord God says: When I gather the house of Israel from the peoples where they are scattered and demonstrate My holiness through them in the sight of the nations, then they will live in their own land, which I gave to My servant Jacob. NIV 25 “ ‘This is what the Sovereign LORD says: When I gather the people of Israel from the nations where they have been scattered, I will be proved holy through them in the sight of the nations. Then they will live in their own land, which I gave to my servant Jacob. CSB 26 They will live there securely, build houses, and plant vineyards. They will live securely when I execute judgments against all their neighbors who treat them with contempt. Then they will know that I am the Lord their God." NIV 26 They will live there in safety and will build houses and plant vineyards; they will live in safety when I inflict punishment on all their neighbors who maligned them. Then they will know that I am the LORD their God.’ ”
