1 Y TU levanta endecha sobre los príncipes de Israel.

"Sing a funeral song for the leaders of Israel.
2 Y dirás: ¡Cómo se echó entre los leones tu madre la leona! entre los leoncillos crió sus cachorros.

Say: 'Your mother was like a female lion. She lay down among the young lions. She had many cubs.
3 E hizo subir uno de sus cachorros: vino á ser leoncillo, y aprendió á prender presa, y á devorar hombres.

When she brought up one of her cubs, he became a strong lion. He learned to tear the animals he hunted, and he ate people.
4 Y las gentes oyeron de él: fué tomado con el lazo de ellas, y lleváronlo con grillos á la tierra de Egipto.

The nations heard about him. He was trapped in their pit, and they brought him with hooks to the land of Egypt.
5 Y viendo ella que había esperado mucho tiempo, y que se perdía su esperanza, tomó otro de sus cachorros, y púsolo por leoncillo.

"'The mother lion waited and saw that there was no hope for her cub. So she took another one of her cubs and made him a strong lion.
6 Y él andaba entre los leones; hízose leoncillo, aprendió á hacer presa, devoró hombres.

This cub roamed among the lions. He was now a strong lion. He learned to tear the animals he hunted, and he ate people.
7 Y conoció sus viudas, y asoló sus ciudades; y la tierra fué asolada, y su abundancia, á la voz de su bramido.

He tore down their strong places and destroyed their cities. The land and everything in it were terrified by the sound of his roar.
8 Y dieron sobre él las gentes de las provincias de su alrededor, y extendieron sobre él su red; fué preso en su hoyo.

Then the nations came against him from areas all around, and they spread their net over him. He was trapped in their pit.
9 Y pusiéronlo en cárcel con cadenas, y lleváronlo al rey de Babilonia; metiéronlo en fortalezas, para que su voz no se oyese más sobre los montes de Israel.

Then they put him into a cage with chains and brought him to the king of Babylon. They put him into prison so his roar could not be heard again on the mountains of Israel.
10 Tu madre fué como una vid en tu sangre, plantada junto á las aguas, haciendo fruto y echando vástagos á causa de las muchas aguas.

"'Your mother was like a vine in your vineyard, planted beside the water. The vine had many branches and gave much fruit, because there was plenty of water.
11 Y ella tuvo varas fuertes para cetros de señores; y levantóse su estatura por encima entre las ramas, y fué vista en su altura, y con la multitud de sus sarmientos.

The vine had strong branches, good enough for a king's scepter. The vine became tall among the thick branches. And it was seen, because it was tall with many branches.
12 Empero fué arrancada con ira, derribada en tierra, y viento solano secó su fruto; fueron quebradas y secáronse sus varas fuertes; consumiólas el fuego.

But it was pulled up by its roots in anger and thrown down to the ground. The east wind dried it up. Its fruit was torn off. Its strong branches were broken off and burned up.
13 Y ahora está plantada en el desierto, en tierra de sequedad y de aridez.

Now the vine is planted in the desert, in a dry and thirsty land.
14 Y ha salido fuego de la vara de sus ramos, ha consumido su fruto, y no ha quedado en ella vara fuerte, cetro para enseñorear. Endecha es esta, y de endecha servirá.

Fire spread from the vine's main branch, destroying its fruit. There is not a strong branch left on it that could become a scepter for a king.' This is a funeral song; it is to be used as a funeral song."
