1 Y sucedió en el undécimo año, el tercer mes, el día primero del mes, que vino a mí la palabra del SEÑOR, diciendo:

2 Hijo de hombre, di a Faraón, rey de Egipto, y a su multitud: "¿A quién te pareces en tu grandeza?

3 "He aquí, Asiria era un cedro en el Líbano de hermosas ramas y frondoso, de sombra abundante y de elevada estatura, y su copa estaba entre las nubes.

4 "Las aguas lo hicieron crecer y las corrientes profundas lo encumbraron; con sus ríos se extendía en torno al lugar donde estaba plantado, y enviaba sus corrientes a todos los árboles del campo.

5 "Por eso su altura era mayor que la de todos los árboles del campo; se multiplicaban sus ramas y se alargaba su ramaje, extendiéndose a causa de las muchas aguas.

6 "En sus ramas anidaban todas las aves del cielo, bajo su ramaje parían todas las bestias del campo, y a su sombra habitaban todas las grandes naciones.

7 "Era, pues, hermoso en su grandeza, por la extensión de sus ramas; porque sus raíces estaban junto a muchas aguas.

8 "Los cedros no lo igualaban en el huerto de Dios; los cipreses no se podían comparar con su ramaje, y los plátanos no igualaban sus ramas. Ningún árbol en el huerto de Dios podía compararse a él en su hermosura.

9 "Hermoso lo hice por la multitud de sus ramas, y lo envidiaban todos los árboles del Edén que estaban en el huerto de Dios.

10 "Por tanto, así dice el Señor DIOS: 'Porque es de elevada estatura, y ha puesto su copa entre las nubes, y su corazón es altivo por su altura,

11 lo entregaré, pues, en manos de un déspota de las naciones que lo tratará con dureza. Conforme a su maldad lo he echado fuera.

12 'Y extranjeros, los más crueles de entre las naciones, lo han derribado y abandonado; sobre los montes y en todos los valles han caído sus ramas, y su ramaje ha sido quebrado en todas las barrancas de la tierra; todos los pueblos de la tierra se han retirado de su sombra y lo han abandonado.

13 'Sobre sus ruinas habitarán todas las aves del cielo, y sobre su ramaje derribado estarán todas las bestias del campo,

14 para que no se exalten en su altura ninguno de los árboles junto a las aguas, ni alcen su copa entre las nubes, ni confíen en su altura sus poderosos bien regados. Porque todos han sido entregados a la muerte, a las profundidades de la tierra, entre los hijos de los hombres, con los que descienden a la fosa.'

15 "Así dice el Señor DIOS: 'El día en que descendió al Seol causé lamentaciones, le cerré las corrientes profundas y detuve sus ríos. Sus muchas aguas cesaron, e hice que el Líbano se lamentara por él y por él todos los árboles del campo se marchitaron.

16 'Al estruendo de su caída hice temblar a las naciones, cuando lo hice descender al Seol con los que descienden a la fosa; entonces todos los árboles bien regados del Edén, los escogidos y los mejores del Líbano, se consolaron en las profundidades de la tierra.

17 'También ellos descendieron con él al Seol, con los que murieron a espada; y los que eran su fuerza habitaban bajo su sombra en medio de las naciones.

18 '¿A quién, pues, eres semejante en gloria y grandeza entre los árboles del Edén? Sin embargo, serás derribado con los árboles del Edén a las profundidades de la tierra; yacerás en medio de los incircuncisos, con los que fueron muertos a espada. Así es Faraón y toda su multitud'"declara el Señor DIOS.

The Message Bible MSG

1 In the eleventh year, on the first day of the third month, God's Message came to me:

2 "Son of man, tell Pharaoh king of Egypt, that pompous old goat: "'Who do you, astride the world, think you really are?

3 Look! Assyria was a Big Tree, huge as a Lebanon cedar, beautiful limbs offering cool shade, Skyscraper high, piercing the clouds.

4 The waters gave it drink, the primordial deep lifted it high, Gushing out rivers around the place where it was planted, And then branching out in streams to all the trees in the forest.

5 It was immense, dwarfing all the trees in the forest - Thick boughs, long limbs, roots delving deep into earth's waters.

6 All the birds of the air nested in its boughs. All the wild animals gave birth under its branches. All the mighty nations lived in its shade.

7 It was stunning in its majesty - the reach of its branches! the depth of its water-seeking roots!

8 Not a cedar in God's garden came close to it. No pine tree was anything like it. Mighty oaks looked like bushes growing alongside it. Not a tree in God's garden was in the same class of beauty.

9 I made it beautiful, a work of art in limbs and leaves, The envy of every tree in Eden, every last tree in God's garden.'"

10 Therefore, God, the Master, says, "'Because it skyscrapered upwards, piercing the clouds, swaggering and proud of its stature,

11 I turned it over to a world-famous leader to call its evil to account. I'd had enough.

12 Outsiders, unbelievably brutal, felled it across the mountain ranges. Its branches were strewn through all the valleys, its leafy boughs clogging all the streams and rivers. Because its shade was gone, everybody walked off. No longer a tree - just a log.

13 On that dead log birds perch. Wild animals burrow under it.

14 "'That marks the end of the "big tree" nations. No more trees nourished from the great deep, no more cloud-piercing trees, no more earth- born trees taking over. They're all slated for death - back to earth, right along with men and women, for whom it's "dust to dust."

15 "'The Message of God, the Master: On the day of the funeral of the Big Tree, I threw the great deep into mourning. I stopped the flow of its rivers, held back great seas, and wrapped the Lebanon mountains in black. All the trees of the forest fainted and fell.

16 I made the whole world quake when it crashed, and threw it into the underworld to take its place with all else that gets buried. All the trees of Eden and the finest and best trees of Lebanon, well-watered, were relieved

17 - they had descended to the underworld with it - along with everyone who had lived in its shade and all who had been killed.

18 "'Which of the trees of Eden came anywhere close to you in splendor and size? But you're slated to be cut down to take your place in the underworld with the trees of Eden, to be a dead log stacked with all the other dead logs, among the other uncircumcised who are dead and buried. "'This means Pharaoh, the pompous old goat. "'Decree of God, the Master.'"
