2 «Hijo de hombre, dale este mensaje al faraón, rey de Egipto, y a todas sus multitudes:<br />»“¿Con quién compararás tu grandeza?

3 Eres como la poderosa Asiria,<br />que alguna vez fue como un cedro del Líbano,<br />con hermosas ramas que daban una intensa sombra al bosque<br />y su copa llegaba hasta las nubes.

4 Los manantiales profundos lo regaban<br />y lo ayudaban a crecer alto y frondoso.<br />El agua corría a su alrededor como un río<br />y fluía hacia todos los árboles cercanos.

5 Este gran árbol se elevaba<br />muy por encima de los demás árboles que lo rodeaban.<br />Creció y desarrolló ramas gruesas y largas<br />por el agua abundante que recibían sus raíces.

6 Las aves anidaban en sus ramas<br />y bajo su sombra parían los animales salvajes.<br />Todas las grandes naciones del mundo<br />vivían bajo su sombra.

7 Era fuerte y hermoso,<br />con ramas que se extendían ampliamente<br />porque sus raíces llegaban a lo profundo,<br />donde había agua en abundancia.

8 Ningún otro cedro del jardín de Dios<br />podía hacerle competencia.<br />Ningún ciprés tenía ramas como las suyas;<br />ningún plátano oriental tenía ramas comparables.<br />Ningún árbol del jardín de Dios<br />tenía una belleza parecida.

9 Como hice tan hermoso este árbol<br />y le di un follaje tan magnífico,<br />era la envidia de los demás árboles del Edén,<br />el jardín de Dios.

10 »”Por lo tanto, esto dice el Señor<br /> Soberano: como Egipto se volvió<br /> vanidoso y arrogante, y porque se puso tan por encima de los demás que su copa llegaba a las nubes,

11 lo entregaré en manos de una nación poderosa para que lo destruya como merece su perversidad. Ya lo he desechado.

12 Un ejército extranjero —el terror de las naciones— lo taló y lo dejó tendido en el suelo. Sus ramas quedaron esparcidas por las montañas, los valles y los barrancos de la tierra. Todos los que vivían bajo su sombra se fueron y lo dejaron allí tirado.

13 »”Las aves se posan en el tronco caído,<br />y los animales salvajes se tienden entre sus ramas.

14 Que ningún árbol de ninguna otra nación<br />se envanezca por su propia grandeza,<br />aunque supere la altura de las nubes<br />y reciba agua de lo profundo.<br />Pues todos están condenados a morir<br />y a descender a las profundidades de la tierra.<br />Caerán a la fosa<br />junto con el resto del mundo.

15 »”Esto dice el Señor<br /> Soberano: cuando Asiria descendió a la tumba,<br /> hice que los manantiales profundos se lamentaran. Detuve el curso de sus ríos y sequé su abundante agua. Vestí de negro el Líbano e hice que se marchitaran los árboles del campo.

16 Hice que las naciones temblaran de miedo al sonido de su caída, porque la envié a la tumba junto con todos los que descienden a la fosa. Los demás árboles vanidosos del Edén, los mejores y más hermosos del Líbano, aquellos que hundían sus raíces profundamente en el agua, se consolaron al encontrar a este árbol allí con ellos en las profundidades de la tierra.

17 También sus aliados fueron destruidos y estaban muertos. Habían descendido a la tumba todas esas naciones que una vez vivieron bajo su sombra.

18 »”Oh Egipto, ¿a cuál de los árboles del Edén compararás tu fortaleza y tu gloria? Tú también serás enviado a las profundidades con todas esas naciones. Quedarás tendido entre los paganos<br /> que murieron a espada. Ese será el destino del faraón y de todas sus multitudes. ¡Yo, el Señor<br /> Soberano, he hablado!”».

1 In the eleventh year, in the third month on the first day, the word of the LORD came to me:

2 “Son of man, say to Pharaoh king of Egypt and to his hordes: “ ‘Who can be compared with you in majesty?

3 Consider Assyria, once a cedar in Lebanon, with beautiful branches overshadowing the forest; it towered on high, its top above the thick foliage.

4 The waters nourished it, deep springs made it grow tall; their streams flowed all around its base and sent their channels to all the trees of the field.

5 So it towered higher than all the trees of the field; its boughs increased and its branches grew long, spreading because of abundant waters.

6 All the birds of the sky nested in its boughs, all the animals of the wild gave birth under its branches; all the great nations lived in its shade.

7 It was majestic in beauty, with its spreading boughs, for its roots went down to abundant waters.

8 The cedars in the garden of God could not rival it, nor could the junipers equal its boughs, nor could the plane trees compare with its branches— no tree in the garden of God could match its beauty.

9 I made it beautiful with abundant branches, the envy of all the trees of Eden in the garden of God.

10 “ ‘Therefore this is what the Sovereign LORD says: Because the great cedar towered over the thick foliage, and because it was proud of its height,

11 I gave it into the hands of the ruler of the nations, for him to deal with according to its wickedness. I cast it aside,

12 and the most ruthless of foreign nations cut it down and left it. Its boughs fell on the mountains and in all the valleys; its branches lay broken in all the ravines of the land. All the nations of the earth came out from under its shade and left it.

13 All the birds settled on the fallen tree, and all the wild animals lived among its branches.

14 Therefore no other trees by the waters are ever to tower proudly on high, lifting their tops above the thick foliage. No other trees so well-watered are ever to reach such a height; they are all destined for death, for the earth below, among mortals who go down to the realm of the dead.

15 “ ‘This is what the Sovereign LORD says: On the day it was brought down to the realm of the dead I covered the deep springs with mourning for it; I held back its streams, and its abundant waters were restrained. Because of it I clothed Lebanon with gloom, and all the trees of the field withered away.

16 I made the nations tremble at the sound of its fall when I brought it down to the realm of the dead to be with those who go down to the pit. Then all the trees of Eden, the choicest and best of Lebanon, the well-watered trees, were consoled in the earth below.

17 They too, like the great cedar, had gone down to the realm of the dead, to those killed by the sword, along with the armed men who lived in its shade among the nations.

18 “ ‘Which of the trees of Eden can be compared with you in splendor and majesty? Yet you, too, will be brought down with the trees of Eden to the earth below; you will lie among the uncircumcised, with those killed by the sword. “ ‘This is Pharaoh and all his hordes, declares the Sovereign LORD.’ ”
