1 Or, Dina, la fille que Léa avait enfantée à Jacob, sortit pour voir les filles du pays.

4 And Dinah Bat Leah, which she bore unto Ya’akov, went out to see the Banot HaAretz.
2 Et Sichem, fils de Hémor, le Hévien, prince du pays, la vit, et l'enleva, et coucha avec elle, et lui fit violence.

And when Shechem Ben Chamor the Chivvi (Hivite), Nasi HaAretz, saw her, he took her, and lay with her, and violated her.
3 Et son âme s'attacha à Dina, fille de Jacob, et il aima la jeune fille, et parla au cœur de la jeune fille.

And his nefesh had deveykus unto Dinah Bat Ya’akov, and he loved the na’arah, and spoke to the lev hanaarah.
4 Et Sichem parla à Hémor, son père, et lui dit: Donne-moi cette jeune fille pour femme.

And Shechem spoke unto Chamor aviv, saying, Get me this yaldah as isha.
5 Or, Jacob apprit qu'il avait déshonoré Dina sa fille; mais ses fils étaient aux champs avec son bétail, et Jacob se tut jusqu'à leur retour.

And Ya’akov heard that he had made his bat Dinah tameh; now his banim were with his mikneh in the sadeh; and Ya’akov held his peace until they were come.
6 Cependant Hémor, père de Sichem, sortit vers Jacob pour lui parler.

And Chamor avi Shechem went out unto Ya’akov to speak with him.
7 Et les fils de Jacob revinrent des champs dès qu'ils apprirent la chose; et ces hommes furent affligés et fort irrités de l'infamie que Sichem avait commise en Israël, en couchant avec la fille de Jacob, ce qui ne devait point se faire.

And the Bnei Ya’akov came from the sadeh when they heard it; and the anashim were grieved, and they were in wrath greatly, because he had wrought nevalah (folly, disgrace, outrage) against Yisroel in lying with Bat Ya’akov; which thing ought not to be done.
8 Et Hémor leur parla, en disant: L'âme de Sichem, mon fils, s'est attachée à votre fille; donnez-la-lui, je vous prie, pour femme.

And Chamor spoke with them, saying, The nefesh of beni (my son) Shechem longeth for your bat; now give her him as isha.
9 Et alliez-vous avec nous; vous nous donnerez vos filles, et vous prendrez nos filles pour vous.

So intermarry with us, and give your banot unto us, and take benoteinu (our banot) unto you.
10 Et vous habiterez avec nous; et le pays sera à votre disposition: demeurez-y et y trafiquez, et acquérez-y des propriétés.

And ye shall dwell with us; and HaAretz shall be before you; dwell and trade therein, and get you possessions therein.
11 Et Sichem dit au père et aux frères de la jeune fille: Que je trouve grâce à vos yeux; et je donnerai ce que vous me direz.

And Shechem said unto her av and unto her achim, Let me find chen (grace) in your eyes, and what ye shall say unto me I will give.
12 Imposez-moi un grand douaire, et de grands présents, et je les donnerai comme vous me direz; mais donnez-moi la jeune fille pour femme.

Ask me never so much mohar (bride price, dowry) and mattan (gift), and I will pay according as ye shall say unto me; but give me the na’arah as isha.
13 Alors les fils de Jacob répondirent avec ruse à Sichem et à Hémor, son père; ils parlèrent ainsi, parce qu'il avait déshonoré Dina leur sœur.

And the Bnei Ya’akov answered Shechem and Chamor aviv in mirmar (deceit) and spoke because he had made Dinah their achot tameh;
14 Ils leur dirent: C'est une chose que nous ne pouvons faire que de donner notre sœur à un homme incirconcis; car ce nous serait un opprobre.

And they said unto them, We cannot do this thing, to give achoteinu (our sister) to ish that is arelah (uncircumcised); for that would be a cherpah (reproach, disgrace) unto us;
15 Nous ne consentirons à ce que vous demandez que si vous devenez semblables à nous, en circoncisant tous les mâles parmi vous.

But in this will we consent unto you: If ye will become like us, that every zachar of you be circumcised;
16 Alors nous vous donnerons nos filles, et nous prendrons vos filles pour nous; et nous habiterons avec vous, et nous ne serons plus qu'un peuple.

Then will we give benoteinu unto you, and we will take your banot to us, and we will dwell among you, and we will become as Am Echad.
17 Mais, si vous ne voulez pas nous écouter et vous circoncire, nous prendrons notre fille, et nous nous en irons.

But if ye will not pay heed unto us, to become circumcised; then will we take biteinu (our daughter), and we will go.
18 Et leurs discours plurent à Hémor et à Sichem, fils de Hémor.

And their words pleased Chamor, and Shechem Ben Chamor.
19 Et le jeune homme ne différa point de faire la chose; car la fille de Jacob lui plaisait. Or il était le plus considéré de toute la maison de son père.

And the na’ar deferred not to do the thing, because he had delight in Bat Ya’akov; and he was more respected than kol Bais Aviv.
20 Hémor et Sichem, son fils, vinrent donc à la porte de leur ville, et parlèrent aux gens de leur ville, en disant:

And Chamor and Shechem bno came unto the Sha’ar of their city, and they spoke with the anashim of their city, saying,
21 Ces gens-ci sont paisibles à notre égard; qu'ils habitent au pays, et qu'ils y trafiquent. Et voici, le pays est assez étendu pour eux; nous prendrons leurs filles pour femmes, et nous leur donnerons nos filles.

These anashim are shlemim (peaceable) with us; therefore let them settle in HaAretz, and let them trade therein for HaAretz, hinei, it is plenty of room for them; let us take their banot to us as nashim, and let us give them benoteinu.
22 Mais ils ne consentiront à habiter avec nous, pour n'être qu'un seul peuple, que si tout mâle parmi nous est circoncis, comme ils sont eux-mêmes circoncis.

Only herein will the anashim consent unto us for to dwell with us, to be Am Echad, if every zachar among us be circumcised, just as they are nimolim (ones being circumcised).
23 Leur bétail, et leurs biens, et toutes leurs bêtes, ne seront-ils pas à nous? Accordons-leur seulement cela, et qu'ils demeurent avec nous.

Shall not their mikneh and their property and every behemah of theirs be ours? Only let us consent unto them, and they will settle among us.
24 Et tous ceux qui sortaient par la porte de leur ville, obéirent à Hémor et à Sichem son fils, et tout mâle qui sortait par la porte de leur ville, fut circoncis.

And unto Chamor and unto Shechem bno paid heed all that went out of the Sha’ar of his city; and every zachar was circumcised, all that went out of the Sha’ar of his city.
25 Et il arriva au troisième jour, lorsqu'ils étaient souffrants, que deux des fils de Jacob, Siméon et Lévi, frères de Dina, prirent chacun leur épée, se jetèrent sur la ville en sécurité, et tuèrent tous les mâles.

And it came to pass on the Yom HaShlishi, when they were in pain, that two of the Bnei Ya’akov, Shimon and Levi, achei Dinah, took each ish his cherev, and came upon the Ir betach (boldly, confidently), and they slaughtered kol zachar.
26 Ils passèrent au tranchant de l'épée Hémor et Sichem, son fils; et ils prirent Dina de la maison de Sichem, et ils sortirent.

And they slaughtered Chamor and Shechem bno with the edge of the cherev, and took Dinah from the Bais Shechem and left.
27 Les fils de Jacob se jetèrent sur les blessés et pillèrent la ville, parce qu'on avait déshonoré leur sœur.

The Bnei Ya’akov came upon the chalalim (dead ones, slain ones), and plundered the Ir, because they had made their achot tameh.
28 Et ils prirent leurs troupeaux, leurs bœufs et leurs ânes, ce qui était dans la ville et aux champs;

They seized their tzon, and their bakar, and their chamorim, and that which was in the Ir, and that which was in the sadeh,
29 Ils emmenèrent et pillèrent tous leurs biens, et tous leurs petits enfants, et leurs femmes, et tout ce qui était dans les maisons.

And all their wealth, and all their little ones, and their nashim they carried off and plundered even all that was in the bais.
30 Alors Jacob dit à Siméon et à Lévi: Vous m'avez troublé, en me mettant en mauvaise odeur parmi les habitants du pays, parmi les Cananéens et les Phéréziens. Et moi, je n'ai qu'un petit nombre d'hommes; ils s'assembleront contre moi, et me frapperont, et je serai détruit, moi et ma maison.

And Ya’akov said to Shimon and Levi, Ye have brought trouble on me to make me a stench among the inhabitants of HaAretz, among the Kena’ani and the Perizzi; and I being few in mispar, they shall gather themselves together against me, and attack me; and I shall be destroyed, I and my bais.
31 Et ils répondirent: Doit-on traiter notre sœur comme une prostituée?

And they said, Should he deal with achoteinu like with zonah?
