1 OR avvenne in quello stesso anno, nel principio del regno di Sedechia, re di Giuda, nell’anno quarto, nel quinto mese, che Anania, figliuolo di Azzur, profeta, ch’era da Gabaon, mi parlò nella Casa del Signore, nel cospetto de’ sacerdoti, e di tutto il popolo, dicendo:

2 Così ha detto il Signor degli eserciti, l’Iddio d’Israele: Io ho rotto il giogo del re di Babilonia.

3 Infra lo spazio di due anni io farò riportare in questo luogo tutti gli arredi della Casa del Signore, che Nebucadnesar, re di Babilonia, ha tolti di questo luogo, ed ha portati in Babilonia.

4 Ed io ricondurrò, dice il Signore, in questo luogo, Geconia, figliuolo di Gioiachim, re di Giuda, e tutti que’ di Giuda, che sono stati menati in cattività, e son venuti in Babilonia; perciocchè io romperò il giogo del re di Babilonia.

5 E il profeta Geremia rispose al profeta Anania, nel cospetto de’ sacerdoti, e nel cospetto di tutto il popolo, ch’era presente nella Casa del Signore,

6 e disse: Amen; così faccia il Signore; il Signore metta ad effetto le tue parole, che tu hai profetizzate, facendo tornar di Babilonia in questo luogo gli arredi della Casa del Signore, e tutti quelli che sono stati menati in cattività.

7 Ma pure, ascolta ora questa parola, la quale io pronunzio in presenza tua ed in presenza di tutto il popolo:

8 I profeti che sono stati davanti a me, e davanti a te, ab antico, han profetizzato contro a molti paesi, e contro a gran regni, di guerra, e di fame, e di pestilenza.

9 Quando la parola del profeta, che avrà profetizzato di pace, sarà avvenuta, egli sarà riconosciuto essere il profeta che il Signore avrà mandato in verità.

10 Ma il profeta Anania prese il giogo d’in sul collo del profeta Geremia, e lo ruppe.

11 Ed Anania parlò nel cospetto di tutto il popolo, dicendo: Così ha detto il Signore: In questo modo romperò, infra lo spazio di due anni, il giogo di Nebucadnesar, re di Babilonia, d’in sul collo di tutte le nazioni. E il profeta Geremia se ne andò a suo cammino.

12 E la parola del Signore fu indirizzata a Geremia, dopo che il profeta Anania ebbe rotto il giogo d’in sul collo del profeta Geremia, dicendo:

13 Va’, e parla ad Anania, dicendo: Così ha detto il Signore: Tu hai rotti i gioghi di legno; ma fattene, in luogo di quelli, degli altri di ferro.

14 Perciocchè, così ha detto il Signor degli eserciti, l’Iddio d’Israele: Io ho messo un giogo di ferro in sul collo di tutte queste nazioni; acciocchè servano a Nebucadnesar, re di Babilonia; e gli serviranno; gli ho eziandio dato fino alle fiere della campagna.

15 Poi il profeta Geremia disse al profeta Anania: Deh! ascolta, o Anania: Il Signore non ti ha mandato, e tu hai fatto confidar questo popolo in menzogna.

16 Perciò, così ha detto il Signore: Ecco, io ti scaccio d’in su la faccia della terra; quest’anno tu morrai; perchè tu hai parlato di ribellione contro al Signore.

17 E il profeta Anania morì quello stesso anno, nel settimo mese.

1 In that same year, early in the rule of King Zedekiah of Judah, in the fifth month of his fourth year as king, the prophet Hananiah, son of Azzur, from Gibeon, spoke to me in the LORD's temple. He said to me in front of the priests and all the people,

2 "This is what the LORD of Armies, the God of Israel, says: I will break the yoke of the king of Babylon.

3 Within two years I will bring back all the utensils of the LORD's temple that King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon took from this place and carried off to Babylon.

4 I will also bring back to this place Jehoiakin, son of King Jehoiakim of Judah, and all the captives of Judah who went to Babylon, declares the LORD. So I will break the yoke of the king of Babylon."

5 The prophet Jeremiah replied to the prophet Hananiah in front of the priests and all the people standing in the LORD's temple.

6 He said, "Amen! May the LORD do this! May the LORD make your prophecy come true and bring back the utensils of the LORD's temple and all the captives from Babylon to this place.

7 But now listen to this message that I am speaking to you and to all the people:

8 Long ago, the prophets who preceded you and me prophesied wars, disasters, and plagues against many countries and great kingdoms.

9 But the prophet who prophesied peace was recognized as a prophet that the LORD sent only if the message of the prophet came true."

10 Then the prophet Hananiah took the yoke off the neck of the prophet Jeremiah and broke it.

11 Hananiah said in front of all the people, "This is what the LORD says: In the same way, I will break the yoke of King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon off the neck of all the nations within two years." Then the prophet Jeremiah went on his way.

12 After the prophet Hananiah broke the yoke off the neck of the prophet Jeremiah, the LORD spoke his word to Jeremiah. He said,

13 "Tell Hananiah, 'This is what the LORD says: You have broken the wooden yoke, but I will replace it with an iron yoke.

14 This is what the LORD of Armies, the God of Israel, says: I will put an iron yoke on the necks of all these nations so that they will serve King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon. They will serve him! I will even make wild animals serve him.'"

15 Then Jeremiah told the prophet Hananiah, "Now listen, Hananiah, the LORD hasn't sent you. You have made these people believe a lie.

16 This is what the LORD says: I'm going to remove you from the face of the earth. You will die this year because you have encouraged rebellion against the LORD."

17 So the prophet Hananiah died in the seventh month of that year.
