1 LA parola che fu dal Signore indirizzata a Geremia, nel tempo di Gioiachim, figliuol di Giosia, re di Giuda, dicendo:

2 Va’ alla casa de’ Recabiti, e parla loro, e menali nella Casa del Signore, in una delle camere, e presenta loro del vino a bere.

3 Io adunque presi Iaazania, figliuol di Geremia, figliuolo di Habassinia, e i suoi fratelli, e tutti i suoi figliuoli, e tutta la famiglia de’ Recabiti.

4 E li menai nella Casa del Signore, nella camera de’ figliuoli di Hanan, figliuolo d’Igdalia, uomo di Dio; la quale era appresso della camera dei capi di sopra della camera di Maaseia figliuolo di Sallum, guardiano della soglia.

5 Ed io misi davanti a’ figliuoli della casa de’ Recabiti de’ nappi pieni di vino, e delle coppe, e dissi loro: Bevete del vino.

6 Ma essi dissero: Noi non berremo vino; perciocchè Gionadab, figliuolo di Recab, nostro padre, ce l’ha divietato, dicendo: Non bevete giammai in perpetuo vino, nè voi, nè i vostri figliuoli.

7 E non edificate alcuna casa, e non seminate alcuna semenza, e non piantate vigne, e non ne abbiate alcuna; anzi abitate tutti i giorni della vita vostra in tende; acciocchè viviate per lunghi giorni sopra la terra, nella quale voi siete forestieri.

8 E noi abbiamo ubbidito alla voce di Gionadab, figliuolo di Recab, nostro padre, in tutto ciò che egli ci ha comandato, per non ber vino tutti i giorni della vita nostra, nè noi, nè le nostre mogli, nè i nostri figliuoli, nè le nostre figliuole;

9 e per non edificar case da abitarvi; e per non aver nè vigna, nè campo, nè sementa alcuna.

10 E siamo abitati in tende, ed abbiamo ubbidito, e fatto secondo tutto ciò che Gionadab, nostro padre, ci avea comandato.

11 Or è avvenuto che quando Nebucadnesar, re di Babilonia, è salito contro al paese, noi abbiamo detto: Venite, ed entriamo in Gerusalemme, per iscampar d’innanzi all’esercito dei Caldei, e dinanzi all’esercito di Siria; e così siamo dimorati in Gerusalemme.

12 E la parola del Signore fu indirizzata a Geremia, dicendo:

13 Così ha detto il Signore degli eserciti, l’Iddio d’Israele: Va’, e di’ agli uomini di Giuda, e agli abitanti di Gerusalemme: Non riceverete voi correzione, per ubbidire alle mie parole? dice il Signore.

14 Le parole di Gionadab, figliuolo di Recab, il quale comandò a’ suoi figliuoli, che non bevessero vino, sono state messe ad effetto, talchè essi non hanno bevuto vino infino al dì d’oggi; anzi hanno ubbidito al comandamento del padre loro; ed io vi ho parlato del continuo, per ogni mattina; e voi non mi avete ubbidito.

15 E vi ho mandati, del continuo, per ogni mattina, tutti i miei servitori profeti, per dirvi: Deh! convertasi ciascun di voi dalla sua via malvagia, ed ammendate i vostri fatti, e non andate dietro ad altri dii, per servirli; e voi abiterete nella terra che io ho data a voi, ed a’ padri vostri; ma voi non avete porto l’orecchio, e non mi avete ubbidito.

16 Perciocchè i figliuoli di Gionadab, figliuolo di Recab, hanno messo ad effetto il comandamento che diede loro il lor padre; e questo popolo non ha ubbidito a me;

17 perciò, il Signore, l’Iddio degli eserciti, l’Iddio d’Israele, ha detto così: Ecco, io fo venire sopra Giuda, e sopra tutti gli abitanti di Gerusalemme, tutto il male, che ho pronunziato contro a loro; perciocchè io ho lor parlato, e non hanno ascoltato; io ho lor gridato, e non hanno risposto.

18 Ed alla casa de’ Recabiti Geremia disse: Così ha detto il Signor degli eserciti, l’Iddio d’Israele: Perciocchè voi avete ubbidito al comandamento di Gionadab, vostro padre, ed avete osservati tutti i suoi ordini, ed avete fatto secondo tutto quello ch’egli vi avea comandato;

19 perciò, così ha detto il Signor degli eserciti, l’Iddio d’Israele: Giammai in perpetuo non verrà meno a Gionadab, figliuolo di Recab, uomo che stia davanti alla mia faccia.

GOD'S WORD Translation GW

1 The LORD spoke his word to Jeremiah during the reign of Jehoiakim, son of King Josiah of Judah. He said,

2 "Go to the family of Rechab and talk to them. Take them into one of the side rooms in the LORD's temple, and offer them a drink of wine."

3 I took Jaazaniah, who was the son of Jeremiah and the grandson of Habazziniah, and I took Jaazaniah's brothers and all his sons--the whole family of Rechab.

4 I brought them into the LORD's temple, into the side room of the sons of Hanan. (He was Igdaliah's son, the man of God.) It was next to the room of the officials and above the side room of Maaseiah, Shallum's son, the doorkeeper.

5 Then I set cups and pitchers filled with wine in front of the family of Rechab. I said to them, "Drink some wine."

6 They answered, "We don't drink wine, because our ancestor Jonadab, Rechab's son, gave us this order: 'You and your descendants must never drink wine.

7 Never build any houses or plant any fields or vineyards. You must never have any of these things. You must always live in tents so that you may live for a long time in the land where you are staying.'

8 We, along with our wives, sons, and daughters, have obeyed our ancestor Jonadab, Rechab's son, in everything he ordered us to do. We have never drunk wine,

9 built houses to live in, or owned vineyards, pastures, or grainfields.

10 We live in tents, and we have obeyed everything our ancestor Jonadab ordered us to do.

11 But when King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon invaded this land, we said, 'Let's go to Jerusalem [to escape] the Babylonian and Aramean armies.' That's why we are living in Jerusalem."

12 Then the LORD spoke his word to Jeremiah. He said,

13 "This is what the LORD of Armies, the God of Israel, says: Tell the people of Judah and those who live in Jerusalem, 'Won't you ever learn your lesson and obey my words? declares the LORD.

14 Jonadab, Rechab's son, ordered his descendants not to drink wine. This order has been carried out. His descendants have not drunk any wine to this day, because they have obeyed their ancestor's order. I have spoken to you again and again, but you have refused to listen to me.

15 I have sent all my servants the prophets to you again and again. They said, "Turn from your evil ways, do what is right, and don't follow other gods in order to serve them. Then you will live in the land that I gave you and your ancestors." However, you refused to listen to me or obey me.

16 The descendants of Jonadab, Rechab's son, have carried out the orders of their ancestor, but you refuse to listen to me.

17 "'This is what the LORD God of Armies, the God of Israel, says: I am going to bring on Judah and on all those who live in Jerusalem all the disasters that I threatened. I have spoken to them, but they didn't listen. I called to them, but they didn't answer.'"

18 Then Jeremiah said to the family of Rechab, "This is what the LORD of Armies, the God of Israel, says: You obeyed the order of your ancestor Jonadab, followed all his instructions, and did exactly what he told you to do.

19 So this is what the LORD of Armies, the God of Israel, says: A descendant of Jonadab, Rechab's son, will always serve me."
