1 E GIOBBE rispose e disse:

2 Io ho più volte udite le stesse cose; Voi tutti siete consolatori molesti.

3 Finiranno mai le parole di vento? Ovvero, di che ti fai forte, che tu replichi ancora?

4 Se l’anima vostra fosse nello stato dell’anima mia, Anch’io potrei parlar come voi, Mettere insieme parole contro a voi, E scuotervi il capo contra.

5 Ma anzi io vi conforterei con la mia bocca, E la consolazione delle mie labbra rallenterebbe il vostro dolore.

6 Se io parlo, il mio dolore non però si rallenta; E se io resto di parlare, quanto se ne partirà egli da me?

7 Certo, egli ora mi ha straccato; E tu mi hai, o Dio, diserta tutta la mia brigata.

8 E mi hai fatto diventar tutto grinzo, Il che è un testimonio del mio male; La mia magrezza si leva contro a me, e mi testifica contra in faccia.

9 L’ira sua mi ha lacerato, ed egli procede contro a me da avversario; Egli digrigna i denti contro a me; Il mio nemico appunta i suoi occhi in me.

10 Hanno aperta la bocca contro a me, Mi hanno battuto in su le guance per vituperio, Si sono adunati insieme contro a me.

11 Iddio mi ha messo in poter del perverso, E mi ha fatto cader nelle mani degli empi.

12 Io era in istato tranquillo, ed egli mi ha rotto; E presomi per lo collo, mi ha tritato, E mi ha rizzato per suo bersaglio.

13 I suoi arcieri mi hanno intorniato; Egli mi trafigge le reni, e non mi risparmia punto; Egli mi ha sparso in terra il mio fiele.

14 Egli mi rompe di rottura sopra rottura, Egli mi corre addosso come un possente uomo.

15 Io ho cucito un sacco sopra la mia pelle, Ed ho lordato il mio splendore nella polvere.

16 La mia faccia è sucida di piangere, E l’ombra della morte è in su le mie palpebre;

17 Quantunque non vi sia violenza nelle mie mani, E la mia orazione sia pura.

18 O terra, non nascondere il sangue sparso da me; E se così è, il mio grido non abbia luogo.

19 Eziandio ora, ecco, il mio testimonio è ne’ cieli; Il mio testimonio è ne’ luoghi sovrani.

20 O miei oratori, o amici miei, L’occhio mio si volge lagrimando a Dio.

21 Oh! potesse pur l’uomo piatire con Dio, Come un uomo col suo compagno!

22 Perciocchè i miei brevi anni se ne vanno forniti; Ed io me ne vo per un sentiero, onde non tornerò più.

Good News Translation GNT

1 I have heard words like that before;

2 the comfort you give is only torment.

3 Are you going to keep on talking forever? Do you always have to have the last word?

4 If you were in my place and I in yours, I could say everything you are saying. I could shake my head wisely and drown you with a flood of words.

5 I could strengthen you with advice and keep talking to comfort you.

6 But nothing I say helps, and being silent does not calm my pain.

7 You have worn me out, God; you have let my family be killed.

8 You have seized me; you are my enemy. I am skin and bones, and people take that as proof of my guilt.

9 In anger God tears me limb from limb; he glares at me with hate.

10 People sneer at me; they crowd around me and slap my face.

11 God has handed me over to evil people.

12 I was living in peace, but God took me by the throat and battered me and crushed me. God uses me for target practice

13 and shoots arrows at me from every side - arrows that pierce and wound me; and even then he shows no pity.

14 He wounds me again and again; he attacks like a soldier gone mad with hate.

15 I mourn and wear clothes made of sackcloth, and I sit here in the dust defeated.

16 I have cried until my face is red, and my eyes are swollen and circled with shadows,

17 but I am not guilty of any violence, and my prayer to God is sincere.

18 O Earth, don't hide the wrongs done to me! Don't let my call for justice be silenced!

19 There is someone in heaven to stand up for me and take my side.

20 My friends scorn me; my eyes pour out tears to God.

21 I want someone to plead with God for me, as one pleads for a friend.

22 My years are passing now, and I walk the road of no return.
