1 Ora dunque, Giobbe, ascolta, ti prego, i miei ragionamenti, E porgi gli orecchi a tutte le mie parole.

2 Ecco, ora io ho aperta la mia bocca, La mia lingua parla nel mio palato.

3 Le mie parole saranno secondo la dirittura del mio cuore; E le mie labbra proferiranno scienza pura.

4 Lo Spirito di Dio mi ha fatto, E l’alito dell’Onnipotente mi ha data la vita.

5 Se tu puoi, rispondimi; Mettiti in ordine contro a me, e presentati pure.

6 Ecco, io sono a Dio, come tu; Anch’io sono stato tratto dal fango.

7 Ecco, il mio spavento non ti sgomenterà, E la mia mano non ti sarà grave addosso.

8 Tu hai pur detto, udendolo io, Ed io ho intesa la voce delle parole:

9 Io son puro, senza misfatto; Io son netto, e non vi è iniquità in me;

10 Ecco, egli trova delle occasioni contro a me; Egli mi reputa per suo nemico;

11 Egli ha messi i miei piedi ne’ ceppi, Egli spia tutti i miei sentieri.

12 Ecco, in questo tu non sei stato giusto; io ti risponderò; Perciocchè Iddio è vie maggiore che l’uomo.

13 Perchè hai tu conteso con lui, Perchè egli non dichiara tutte le sue ragioni?

14 Egli è ben vero, che talora Iddio parla una volta, E due, a chi non vi ha atteso.

15 In sogno, in vision notturna, Quando il più profondo sonno cade in su gli uomini, Quando essi son tutti sonnacchiosi sopra i lor letti;

16 Allora egli apre loro l’orecchio, E suggella il lor castigo;

17 Per istorre l’uomo dalle opere sue, E per far che la superbia dell’uomo non apparisca più;

18 Per iscampar l’anima sua dalla fossa, E far che la sua vita non passi per la spada.

19 Ma talora altresì l’uomo è castigato con dolori sopra il suo letto, E tutte le sue ossa di grave malattia;

20 E la sua vita gli fa abbominare il cibo, E l’anima sua la vivanda desiderabile;

21 La sua carne è consumata, talchè non apparisce più; E le sue ossa, che prima non si vedevano, spuntano fuori;

22 E l’anima sua si accosta alla fossa, E la vita sua a’ mali mortali.

23 Ma se allora vi è appresso di lui alcun messo, un parlatore, Uno d’infra mille, Per dichiarare all’uomo il suo dovere;

24 Iddio gli farà grazia, e dirà: Riscuotilo, che non iscenda alla fossa; Io ho trovato il riscatto.

25 La sua carne diventerà morbida, più che non è in fanciullezza; Egli ritornerà a’ dì della sua giovanezza.

26 Egli supplicherà a Dio, ed egli gli sarà placato, E gli farà veder la sua faccia con giubilo, E renderà all’uomo la sua giustizia.

27 Ed esso poi si volgerà verso gli uomini, e dirà: Io avea peccato, ed avea pervertita la dirittura, E ciò non mi ha punto giovato.

28 Così Iddio riscoterà l’anima sua, che non passi nella fossa, E la vita sua vedrà la luce.

29 Ecco, Iddio opera tutte queste cose Due e tre volte inverso l’uomo;

30 Per ritrarre l’anima sua dalla fossa, Acciocchè sia illuminata della luce de’ viventi.

31 Attendi, o Giobbe, ascoltami; Taci, ed io parlerò.

32 Se tu hai alcuna cosa da dire, rispondimi; Parla, perciocchè io desidero giustificarti.

33 Se no, ascoltami tu; Taci, ed io t’insegnerò la sapienza.

Good News Translation GNT

1 And now, Job, listen carefully to all that I have to say.

2 I am ready to say what's on my mind.

3 All my words are sincere, and I am speaking the truth.

4 God's spirit made me and gave me life.

5 Answer me if you can. Prepare your arguments.

6 You and I are the same in God's sight, both of us were formed from clay.

7 So you have no reason to fear me; I will not overpower you.

8 Now this is what I heard you say:

9 "I am not guilty; I have done nothing wrong. I am innocent and free from sin.

10 But God finds excuses for attacking me and treats me like an enemy.

11 He binds chains on my feet; he watches every move I make."

12 But I tell you, Job, you are wrong. God is greater than any human being.

13 Why do you accuse God of never answering our complaints?

14 Although God speaks again and again, no one pays attention to what he says.

15 At night when people are asleep, God speaks in dreams and visions.

16 He makes them listen to what he says, and they are frightened at his warnings.

17 God speaks to make them stop their sinning and to save them from becoming proud.

18 He will not let them be destroyed; he saves them from death itself.

19 God corrects us by sending sickness and filling our bodies with pain.

20 Those who are sick lose their appetites, and even the finest food looks revolting.

21 Their bodies waste away to nothing; you can see all their bones;

22 they are about to go to the world of the dead.

23 Perhaps an angel may come to their aid - one of God's thousands of angels, who remind us of our duty.

24 In mercy the angel will say, "Release them! They are not to go down to the world of the dead. Here is the ransom to set them free."

25 Their bodies will grow young and strong again;

26 when they pray, God will answer; they will worship God with joy; God will set things right for them again.

27 Each one will say in public, "I have sinned. I have not done right, but God spared me.

28 He kept me from going to the world of the dead, and I am still alive."

29 God does all this again and again;

30 each one saves a person's life, and gives him the joy of living.

31 Now, Job, listen to what I am saying; be quiet and let me speak.

32 But if you have something to say, let me hear it; I would gladly admit you are in the right.

33 But if not, be quiet and listen to me, and I will teach you how to be wise.
