1 (H39-4) Sai tu il tempo che le camozze delle rocce figliano? Hai tu osservato quando le cerve partoriscono?

2 (H39-5) Annoveri tu i mesi del termine del lor portato, E sai tu il tempo che devono figliare?

3 (H39-6) Elle si chinano, fanno scoppiar fuori il lor feto, Si alleviano delle lor doglie.

4 (H39-7) I lor figli son gagliardi, crescono per le biade, Escono fuori, e non ritornano più a quelle.

5 (H39-8) Chi ne ha mandato libero l’asino salvatico, E chi ha sciolti i suoi legami?

6 (H39-9) A cui io ho ordinato il deserto per casa; E per abitazioni, i luoghi salsugginosi.

7 (H39-10) Egli si beffa dello strepito della città; Egli non ode gli schiamazzi del sollecitator delle opere.

8 (H39-11) I monti, ch’egli va spiando, sono il suo pasco; Ed egli va ricercando qualunque verdura.

9 (H39-12) Il liocorno ti vorrà egli servire? Si riparerà egli presso alla tua mangiatoia?

10 (H39-13) Legherai tu il liocorno con la sua fune, per farlo arare al solco? Erpicherà egli le valli dietro a te?

11 (H39-14) Ti fiderai tu in lui, perchè la sua forza è grande? E gli rimetterai tu il tuo lavoro?

12 (H39-15) Ti fiderai tu in lui ch’egli ti renda la ricolta della tua sementa, E ch’egli te l’accolga nella tua aia?

13 (H39-16) Le ale de’ paoni son esse vaghe per opera tua? Od ha da te lo struzzolo le penne e la piuma?

14 (H39-17) Fai tu ch’egli abbandoni le sue uova in su la terra, E che le lasci scaldare in su la polvere?

15 (H39-18) E che dimentichi che il piè d’alcuno le schiaccerà, Ovvero che le fiere della campagna le calpesteranno?

16 (H39-19) Egli è spietato inverso i suoi figli, come se non fosser suoi; Indarno è la sua fatica, egli è senza tema;

17 (H39-20) Perciocchè Iddio l’ha privo di senno, E non l’ha fatto partecipe d’intendimento.

18 (H39-21) Quando egli si solleva in alto, Egli si beffa del cavallo, e di colui che lo cavalca.

19 (H39-22) Hai tu data la forza al cavallo? Hai tu adorna la sua gola di fremito?

20 (H39-23) Lo spaventerai tu come una locusta? Il suo magnifico nitrire è spaventevole.

21 (H39-24) Egli raspa nella valle, si rallegra della sua forza, Esce ad incontrare le armi.

22 (H39-25) Egli si beffa della paura, e non si spaventa, E non si volge indietro per la spada.

23 (H39-26) Il turcasso, e la folgorante lancia, E lo spuntone gli risuonano addosso.

24 (H39-27) D’impazienza e di stizza pare ch’egli voglia trangugiar la terra; E non può credere che sia il suon della tromba.

25 (H39-28) Come prima la tromba ha sonato, egli dice: Aha, Aha; Da lontano annasa la battaglia, Lo schiamazzo de’ capitani; e le grida.

26 (H39-29) È per il tuo senno che lo sparviere vola? Che spiega le sue ali verso il mezzodì?

27 (H39-30) L’aquila si leva ella ad alto per lo tuo comandamento? E fai tu ch’ella faccia il suo nido in luoghi elevati?

28 (H39-31) Ella dimora e si ripara nelle rupi, Nelle punte delle rocce, ed in luoghi inaccessibili.

29 (H39-32) Di là ella spia il pasto, Gli occhi suoi mirano da lontano.

30 (H39-33) I suoi aquilini ancora sorbiscono il sangue, E dove sono corpi morti, quivi ella si ritrova.

1 Do you know when mountain goats are born? Have you watched wild deer give birth?

2 Do you know how long they carry their young? Do you know the time for their birth?

3 Do you know when they will crouch down and bring their young into the world?

4 In the wilds their young grow strong; they go away and don't come back.

5 Who gave the wild donkeys their freedom? Who turned them loose and let them roam?

6 I gave them the desert to be their home, and let them live on the salt plains.

7 They keep far away from the noisy cities, and no one can tame them and make them work.

8 The mountains are the pastures where they feed, where they search for anything green to eat.

9 Will a wild ox work for you? Is he willing to spend the night in your stable?

10 Can you hold one with a rope and make him plow? Or make him pull a harrow in your fields?

11 Can you rely on his great strength and expect him to do your heavy work?

12 Do you expect him to bring in your harvest and gather the grain from your threshing place?

13 How fast the wings of an ostrich beat! But no ostrich can fly like a stork.

14 The ostrich leaves her eggs on the ground for the heat in the soil to warm them.

15 She is unaware that a foot may crush them or a wild animal break them.

16 She acts as if the eggs were not hers, and is unconcerned that her efforts were wasted.

17 It was I who made her foolish and did not give her wisdom.

18 But when she begins to run, she can laugh at any horse and rider.

19 Was it you, Job, who made horses so strong and gave them their flowing manes?

20 Did you make them leap like locusts and frighten people with their snorting?

21 They eagerly paw the ground in the valley; they rush into battle with all their strength.

22 They do not know the meaning of fear, and no sword can turn them back.

23 The weapons which their riders carry rattle and flash in the sun.

24 Trembling with excitement, the horses race ahead; when the trumpet blows, they can't stand still.

25 At each blast of the trumpet they snort; they can smell a battle before they get near, and they hear the officers shouting commands.

26 Does a hawk learn from you how to fly when it spreads its wings toward the south?

27 Does an eagle wait for your command to build its nest high in the mountains?

28 It makes its home on the highest rocks and makes the sharp peaks its fortress.

29 From there it watches near and far for something to kill and eat.

30 Around dead bodies the eagles gather, and the young eagles drink the blood.
