1 Grida pure, vi sarà egli alcuno che ti risponda? Ed a cui d’infra i santi ti rivolgerai tu?

2 Conciossiachè il cruccio uccida il pazzo, E lo sdegno faccia morir lo stolto.

3 Io ho veduto il pazzo che si radicava; Ma incontanente ho maledetto il suo abitacolo.

4 I suoi figliuoli son lungi dalla salvezza, E sono oppressati nella porta, senza che alcuno li riscuota.

5 L’affamato divora la ricolta di esso, E la rapisce di mezzo le spine; E i ladroni trangugiano le sue facoltà.

6 Perciocchè la sventura non ispunta dalla polvere, E il dolore non germoglia dalla terra;

7 Benchè l’uomo nasca per soffrire, Come le faville delle brace per volare in alto.

8 Ma quant’è a me, io ricercherei pure Iddio, Ed addirizzerei il mio ragionamento a Dio;

9 Il quale fa cose sì grandi, che non si posson investigare; E tante cose maravigliose, che non si possono annoverare;

10 Che manda la pioggia in su la terra, E le acque in su le campagne;

11 Che innalza i bassi, E fa che quelli ch’erano in duolo sono esaltati per salvazione;

12 Che disperde i pensieri degli astuti, E fa che le lor mani non possono far nulla di bene ordinato.

13 Egli soprapprende i savi nella loro astuzia, E fa che il consiglio de’ perversi va in ruina.

14 Di giorno scontrano tenebre, E in pien mezzodì vanno a tentone come di notte.

15 Ma egli salva il bisognoso dalla spada, Dalla gola loro, e dalla mano del possente.

16 E vi è qualche speranza per lo misero; Ma l’iniquità ha la bocca turata.

17 Ecco, beato è l’uomo, il quale Iddio castiga; E però non disdegnar la correzione dell’Onnipotente.

18 Perciocchè egli è quel che manda la doglia e altresì la fascia; Egli è quel che fa la piaga, e le sue mani altresì guariscono.

19 In sei afflizioni egli ti libererà, Ed in sette il male non ti toccherà.

20 In tempo di fame egli ti riscoterà dalla morte, E in tempo di guerra dalla spada.

21 Al tempo del flagello della lingua tu sarai nascosto; E non temerai la desolazione, quando verrà.

22 Tu riderai del guasto e della carestia; E non temerai delle fiere della terra.

23 Perciocchè tu avrai patto eziandio con le pietre de’ campi; E le fiere della campagna ti saranno rendute pacifiche.

24 E tu conoscerai per prova che il tuo padiglione non sarà se non pace, E governerai la tua casa, e nulla ti verrà fallito.

25 E riconoscerai che la tua progenie sarà molta, E che i tuoi discendenti saranno come l’erba della terra.

26 Tu entrerai in estrema vecchiezza nel sepolcro, Come la bica delle biade è accumulata al suo tempo.

27 Ecco ciò noi ti diciamo; noi l’abbiamo investigato; egli è così; Ascoltalo, e riconoscilo.

1 Call out, Job. See if anyone answers. Is there any angel to whom you can turn?

2 To worry yourself to death with resentment would be a foolish, senseless thing to do.

3 I have seen fools who looked secure, but I called down a sudden curse on their homes.

4 Their children can never find safety; no one stands up to defend them in court.

5 Hungry people will eat the fool's crops - even the grain growing among thorns - and thirsty people will envy his wealth.

6 Evil does not grow in the soil, nor does trouble grow out of the ground.

7 No indeed! We bring trouble on ourselves, as surely as sparks fly up from a fire.

8 If I were you, I would turn to God and present my case to him.

9 We cannot understand the great things he does, and to his miracles there is no end.

10 He sends rain on the land and he waters the fields.

11 Yes, it is God who raises the humble and gives joy to all who mourn.

12 He upsets the plans of cunning people, and traps the wise in their own schemes, so that nothing they do succeeds;

14 even at noon they grope in darkness.

15 But God saves the poor from death; he saves the needy from oppression.

16 He gives hope to the poor and silences the wicked.

17 Happy is the person whom God corrects! Do not resent it when he rebukes you.

18 God bandages the wounds he makes; his hand hurts you, and his hand heals.

19 Time after time he will save you from harm;

20 when famine comes, he will keep you alive, and in war protect you from death.

21 God will rescue you from slander; he will save you when destruction comes.

22 You will laugh at violence and hunger and not be afraid of wild animals.

23 The fields you plow will be free of rocks; wild animals will never attack you.

24 Then you will live at peace in your tent; when you look at your sheep, you will find them safe.

25 You will have as many children as there are blades of grass in a pasture.

26 Like wheat that ripens till harvest time, you will live to a ripe old age.

27 Job, we have learned this by long study. It is true, so now accept it.
