1 ¡Qué aflicción les espera a los jueces injustos<br />y a los que emiten leyes injustas!

Woe to those who make unjust laws, to those who issue oppressive decrees,
2 Privan a los pobres de la justicia<br />y les niegan sus derechos a los necesitados de mi pueblo.<br />Explotan a las viudas<br />y se aprovechan de los huérfanos.

to deprive the poor of their rights and withhold justice from the oppressed of my people, making widows their prey and robbing the fatherless.
3 ¿Qué harán cuando yo los castigue,<br />cuando envíe el desastre sobre ustedes desde una tierra lejana?<br />¿A quién acudirán en busca de ayuda?<br />¿Dónde estarán seguros sus tesoros?

What will you do on the day of reckoning, when disaster comes from afar? To whom will you run for help? Where will you leave your riches?
4 Irán tropezando como prisioneros<br />o quedarán tendidos entre los muertos.<br />Pero aun así no quedará satisfecho el enojo del Señor<br />;<br />su puño sigue preparado para dar el golpe.

Nothing will remain but to cringe among the captives or fall among the slain. Yet for all this, his anger is not turned away, his hand is still upraised.
5 Juicio contra Asiria<br />«Qué aflicción le espera a Asiria, la vara de mi ira.<br />Yo la empleo como garrote para expresar mi enojo.

“Woe to the Assyrian, the rod of my anger, in whose hand is the club of my wrath!
6 Envío a Asiria contra una nación pagana;<br />contra un pueblo con el cual estoy enojado.<br />Asiria los saqueará,<br />y los pisoteará como a polvo debajo de sus pies.

I send him against a godless nation, I dispatch him against a people who anger me, to seize loot and snatch plunder, and to trample them down like mud in the streets.
7 Pero el rey de Asiria no comprenderá que es mi instrumento;<br />su mente no funciona de esa forma.<br />Su plan solo consiste en destruir;<br />en aplastar a las naciones, una tras otra.

But this is not what he intends, this is not what he has in mind; his purpose is to destroy, to put an end to many nations.
8 Dirá:<br />“Pronto cada uno de mis príncipes será un rey.

‘Are not my commanders all kings?’ he says.
9 Hemos destruido a Calno como hicimos antes con Carquemis.<br />Hamat cayó ante nosotros como antes había caído Arfad,<br />y destruimos a Samaria como lo hicimos con Damasco.

‘Has not Kalno fared like Carchemish? Is not Hamath like Arpad, and Samaria like Damascus?
10 Sí, hemos acabado con muchos reinos<br />cuyos dioses eran más grandes que los de Jerusalén y de Samaria.

As my hand seized the kingdoms of the idols, kingdoms whose images excelled those of Jerusalem and Samaria—
11 Por eso derrotaremos a Jerusalén y a sus dioses,<br />tal como destruimos a Samaria con sus dioses”».

shall I not deal with Jerusalem and her images as I dealt with Samaria and her idols?’ ”
12 Después de que el Señor<br /> haya utilizado al rey de Asiria para llevar a cabo sus propósitos en el monte Sión y en Jerusalén, se volverá contra el rey de Asiria y lo castigará, porque es soberbio y arrogante.

When the Lord has finished all his work against Mount Zion and Jerusalem, he will say, “I will punish the king of Assyria for the willful pride of his heart and the haughty look in his eyes.
13 Se jacta diciendo:<br />«Esto lo hice con el poder de mi brazo;<br />lo planifiqué con mi astuta sabiduría.<br />Derribé las defensas de las naciones<br />y me llevé sus tesoros.<br />Como un toro, he derribado a sus reyes.

For he says: “ ‘By the strength of my hand I have done this, and by my wisdom, because I have understanding. I removed the boundaries of nations, I plundered their treasures; like a mighty one I subdued their kings.

As one reaches into a nest, so my hand reached for the wealth of the nations; as people gather abandoned eggs, so I gathered all the countries; not one flapped a wing, or opened its mouth to chirp.’ ”
15 Ahora bien, ¿puede jactarse el hacha de tener un poder mayor que la persona que la usa?<br />¿Es la sierra mayor que la persona que corta?<br />¿Puede golpear una vara a menos que la mueva una mano?<br />¿Puede caminar solo un bastón de madera?

Does the ax raise itself above the person who swings it, or the saw boast against the one who uses it? As if a rod were to wield the person who lifts it up, or a club brandish the one who is not wood!
16 Por lo tanto, el Señor, el Señor<br /> de los Ejércitos Celestiales,<br />enviará una plaga entre las orgullosas tropas de Asiria,<br />y un fuego ardiente consumirá su gloria.

Therefore, the Lord, the LORD Almighty, will send a wasting disease upon his sturdy warriors; under his pomp a fire will be kindled like a blazing flame.
17 El Señor<br />, la Luz de Israel, será un fuego;<br />el Santo será una llama.<br />Devorará con fuego los espinos y las zarzas,<br />y en una sola noche quemará al enemigo por completo.

The Light of Israel will become a fire, their Holy One a flame; in a single day it will burn and consume his thorns and his briers.
18 El Señor<br /> consumirá la gloria de Asiria<br />igual que un incendio consume un bosque en tierra fértil,<br />o una plaga a los enfermos.

The splendor of his forests and fertile fields it will completely destroy, as when a sick person wastes away.
19 De ese glorioso bosque, solo sobrevivirán unos cuantos árboles;<br />tan pocos, que un niño podrá contarlos.

And the remaining trees of his forests will be so few that a child could write them down.
20 Esperanza para el pueblo del Señor<br />En ese día, el remanente que quedará en Israel,<br />los sobrevivientes de la casa de Jacob,<br />ya no seguirán confiando en aliados<br />que buscan destruirlos.<br />En cambio, confiarán fielmente en el Señor<br />,<br />el Santo de Israel.

In that day the remnant of Israel, the survivors of Jacob, will no longer rely on him who struck them down but will truly rely on the LORD, the Holy One of Israel.
21 Un remanente regresará;<br />sí, el remanente de Jacob regresará al Dios Poderoso.

A remnant will return, a remnant of Jacob will return to the Mighty God.
22 Pero aunque los hijos de Israel son tan numerosos<br />como la arena a la orilla del mar,<br />solo un remanente regresará.<br />El Señor<br />, con razón, ha decidido destruir a su pueblo.

Though your people be like the sand by the sea, Israel, only a remnant will return. Destruction has been decreed, overwhelming and righteous.
23 Sí, el Señor, el Señor<br /> de los Ejércitos Celestiales,<br />ya ha decidido destruir toda la tierra.

The Lord, the LORD Almighty, will carry out the destruction decreed upon the whole land.
24 Así que esto dice el Señor, el Señor<br /> de los Ejércitos Celestiales: «Oh, mi pueblo de Sión, no temas a los asirios cuando te opriman con vara y con garrote como lo hicieron los egipcios hace mucho tiempo.

Therefore this is what the Lord, the LORD Almighty, says: “My people who live in Zion, do not be afraid of the Assyrians, who beat you with a rod and lift up a club against you, as Egypt did.
25 Dentro de poco se acabará mi enojo contra ustedes, y después mi ira se levantará para destruirlos a ellos».

Very soon my anger against you will end and my wrath will be directed to their destruction.”
26 El Señor<br /> de los Ejércitos Celestiales los azotará con su látigo, como hizo cuando Gedeón venció a los madianitas en la roca de Oreb, o cuando se levantó la vara del Señor<br /> para ahogar al ejército egipcio en el mar.

The LORD Almighty will lash them with a whip, as when he struck down Midian at the rock of Oreb; and he will raise his staff over the waters, as he did in Egypt.
27 En ese día, el Señor<br /> acabará con la servidumbre de su pueblo;<br />romperá el yugo de la esclavitud<br />y se lo quitará de los hombros.

In that day their burden will be lifted from your shoulders, their yoke from your neck; the yoke will be broken because you have grown so fat.
28 Miren, los asirios están ahora en Ajat.<br />Están atravesando Migrón<br />y almacenando su equipo en Micmas.

They enter Aiath; they pass through Migron; they store supplies at Mikmash.
29 Están cruzando el paso de montaña<br />y acampando en Geba.<br />El poblado de Ramá queda paralizado de temor<br />y toda la gente de Guibeá, el pueblo de Saúl,<br />corre para salvar su vida.

They go over the pass, and say, “We will camp overnight at Geba.” Ramah trembles; Gibeah of Saul flees.

Cry out, Daughter Gallim! Listen, Laishah! Poor Anathoth!
31 Allá va la gente de Madmena, todos huyen;<br />los ciudadanos de Gebim tratan de esconderse.

Madmenah is in flight; the people of Gebim take cover.
32 El enemigo se detiene en Nob por el resto del día;<br />amenaza con el puño al hermoso monte de Sión, el monte de Jerusalén.

This day they will halt at Nob; they will shake their fist at the mount of Daughter Zion, at the hill of Jerusalem.
33 ¡Pero miren! El Señor, el Señor<br /> de los Ejércitos Celestiales,<br />con gran fuerza cortará al poderoso árbol de Asiria.<br />Echará abajo a los soberbios;<br />ese árbol altanero será talado.

See, the Lord, the LORD Almighty, will lop off the boughs with great power. The lofty trees will be felled, the tall ones will be brought low.
34 Cortará con un hacha los árboles de los bosques;<br />el Líbano caerá ante el Poderoso.

He will cut down the forest thickets with an ax; Lebanon will fall before the Mighty One.
