1 Profecía sobre el valle de la visión. ¿Qué te pasa ahora, que has subido toda tú a los terrados?

2 Tú, llena de bulla, ciudad alborotada, ciudad divertida; tus muertos no fueron muertos a espada, tampoco murieron en batalla.

3 Todos tus gobernantes han huido juntos, sin arco han sido capturados; todos los tuyos que hallaron fueron capturados a una, aunque habían huido lejos.

4 Por tanto digo: Apartad de mí la mirada, dejadme llorar amargamente; no tratéis de consolarme por la destrucción de la hija de mi pueblo.

5 Pues hay un día de pánico, servidumbre y confusión de parte del Señor, DIOS de los ejércitos, en el valle de la visión, un derribar de murallas y un clamor al monte.

6 Elam tomó la aljaba con carros, infantería, y jinetes, y Kir desnudó el escudo.

7 Tus mejores valles estaban llenos de carros, y los jinetes tomaron posiciones a la puerta.

8 Entonces cayó la defensa de Judá. Confiasteis aquel día en las armas de la casa del bosque,

9 y visteis que eran muchas las brechas en la muralla de la ciudad de David, y recogisteis las aguas del estanque inferior.

10 Entonces contasteis las casas de Jerusalén, y derribasteis casas para fortificar la muralla.

11 Hicisteis un depósito entre las dos murallas para las aguas del estanque viejo. Pero no confiasteis en el que lo hizo, ni considerasteis al que hace mucho tiempo lo planeó.

12 Por eso aquel día, el Señor, DIOS de los ejércitos, os llamó a llanto y a lamento, a rapar la cabeza y a vestir de cilicio.

13 Sin embargo hay gozo y alegría, matanza de bueyes y deguello de ovejas; comiendo carne y bebiendo vino, dicen: Comamos y bebamos, que mañana moriremos.

14 Pero el SEÑOR de los ejércitos me reveló al oído: Ciertamente esta iniquidad no os será perdonada hasta que muráisdice el Señor, DIOS de los ejércitos.

15 Así dice el Señor, DIOS de los ejércitos: Anda, ve a ese mayordomo, a Sebna, que está encargado de la casa real, y dile:

16 "¿Qué es tuyo aquí, y a quién tienes aquí, que te has labrado aquí un sepulcro, como el que labra en alto un sepulcro, como el que esculpe una morada para sí en la peña?

17 "He aquí, oh hombre, el SEÑOR te arrojará con violencia; te asirá firmemente,

18 te enrollará bien como una pelota, y te lanzará a una tierra muy espaciosa. Allí morirás y allí quedarán tus magníficos carros, oh tú, verguenza de la casa de tu Señor."

19 Te depondré de tu cargo, y te derribaré de tu puesto.

20 Y sucederá en aquel día, que llamaré a mi siervo Eliaquim, hijo de Hilcías,

21 lo vestiré con tu túnica, con tu cinturón lo ceñiré, tu autoridad pondré en su mano, y llegará a ser un padre para los habitantes de Jerusalén y para la casa de Judá.

22 Entonces pondré la llave de la casa de David sobre su hombro; cuando él abra, nadie cerrará, cuando él cierre, nadie abrirá.

23 Lo clavaré como clavija en lugar seguro, y será un trono de gloria para la casa de su padre.

24 Y colgarán de él toda la gloria de la casa de su padre, descendencia y prole, todas las vasijas menores, desde los tazones hasta los cántaros.

1 A Message concerning the Valley of Vision: What's going on here anyway? All this partying and noisemaking,

2 Shouting and cheering in the streets, the city noisy with celebrations!

3 You have no brave soldiers to honor, no combat heroes to be proud of. Your leaders were all cowards, captured without even lifting a sword, A country of cowards captured escaping the battle. You Looked, but You Never Looked to Him

4 In the midst of the shouting, I said, "Let me alone. Let me grieve by myself. Don't tell me it's going to be all right. These people are doomed. It's not all right."

5 For the Master, God-of-the-Angel-Armies, is bringing a day noisy with mobs of people, Jostling and stampeding in the Valley of Vision, knocking down walls and hollering to the mountains, "Attack! Attack!"

6 Old enemies Elam and Kir arrive armed to the teeth - weapons and chariots and cavalry.

8 God has left Judah exposed and defenseless.

9 You found the weak places in the city walls that needed repair. You secured the water supply at the Lower Pool.

10 You took an inventory of the houses in Jerusalem and tore down some to get bricks to fortify the city wall.

11 You built a large cistern to ensure plenty of water. You looked and looked and looked, but you never looked to him who gave you this city, never once consulted the One who has long had plans for this city.

12 The Master, God-of-the-Angel-Armies, called out on that Day, Called for a day of repentant tears, called you to dress in somber clothes of mourning.

15 The Master, God-of-the-Angel-Armies, spoke: "Come. Go to this steward, Shebna, who is in charge of all the king's affairs, and tell him:

16 What's going on here? You're an outsider here and yet you act like you own the place, make a big, fancy tomb for yourself where everyone can see it, making sure everyone will think you're important.

17 God is about to sack you, to throw you to the dogs. He'll grab you by the hair,

18 swing you round and round dizzyingly, and then let you go, sailing through the air like a ball, until you're out of sight. Where you'll land, nobody knows. And there you'll die, and all the stuff you've collected heaped on your grave. You've disgraced your master's house!

19 You're fired - and good riddance!

20 "On that Day I'll replace Shebna. I will call my servant Eliakim son of Hilkiah.

21 I'll dress him in your robe. I'll put your belt on him. I'll give him your authority. He'll be a father-leader to Jerusalem and the government of Judah.

22 I'll give him the key of the Davidic heritage. He'll have the run of the place - open any door and keep it open, lock any door and keep it locked.

23 I'll pound him like a nail into a solid wall. He'll secure the Davidic tradition.

24 Everything will hang on him - not only the fate of Davidic descendants but also the detailed daily operations of the house, including cups and cutlery.

25 "And then the Day will come," says God-of-the-Angel-Armies, "when that nail will come loose and fall out, break loose from that solid wall - and everything hanging on it will go with it." That's what will happen. God says so.
