1 Entonces el SEÑOR me dijo: Toma para ti una tabla grande y escribe sobre ella en caracteres comunes: Veloz es el botín, rápida la presa.

2 Y tomé conmigo como testigos fieles al sacerdote Urías y a Zacarías, hijo de Jeberequías.

3 Me acerqué a la profetisa, y ella concibió y dio a luz un hijo. Y el SEÑOR me dijo: Ponle por nombre Maher-shalal-hash-baz ;

4 porque antes que el niño sepa clamar "padre mío" o "madre mía", la riqueza de Damasco y el botín de Samaria serán llevados ante el rey de Asiria.

5 Y volvió el SEÑOR a hablarme de nuevo, diciendo:

6 Por cuanto este pueblo ha rehusado las aguas de Siloé que corren mansamente, y se ha regocijado en Rezín y en el hijo de Remalías,

7 por tanto, he aquí, el Señor va a traer sobre ellos las aguas impetuosas y abundantes del Eufrates, es decir, al rey de Asiria con toda su gloria, que se saldrá de todos sus cauces y pasará sobre todas sus riberas.

8 Fluirá con ímpetu en Judá, inundará y seguirá adelante, hasta el cuello llegará, y la extensión de sus alas llenará la anchura de tu tierra, oh Emmanuel.

9 Quebrantaos, pueblos, que seréis destrozados; prestad oído, confines todos de la tierra; ceñíos, que seréis destrozados; ceñíos, que seréis destrozados.

10 Trazad un plan, y será frustrado; proferid una palabra, y no permanecerá, porque Dios está con nosotros.

11 Pues así me habló el SEÑOR con gran poder y me instruyó para que no anduviera en el camino de este pueblo, diciendo:

12 No digáis: "Es conspiración", a todo lo que este pueblo llama conspiración, ni temáis lo que ellos temen, ni os aterroricéis.

13 Al SEÑOR de los ejércitos es a quien debéis tener por santo. Sea El vuestro temor, y sea El vuestro terror.

14 Entonces El vendrá a ser santuario; pero piedra de tropiezo y roca de escándalo para ambas casas de Israel, y lazo y trampa para los habitantes de Jerusalén.

15 Muchos tropezarán allí, y caerán y serán quebrantados; serán enlazados y apresados.

16 Ata el testimonio, sella la ley entre mis discípulos.

17 Aguardaré al SEÑOR que esconde su rostro de la casa de Jacob; sí, a El esperaré.

18 He aquí, yo y los hijos que el SEÑOR me ha dado estamos por señales y prodigios en Israel, de parte del SEÑOR de los ejércitos que mora en el monte Sion.

19 Y cuando os digan: Consultad a los médium y a los adivinos que susurran y murmuran, decid: ¿No debe un pueblo consultar a su Dios? ¿Acaso consultará a los muertos por los vivos?

20 ¡A la ley y al testimonio! Si no hablan conforme a esta palabra, es porque no hay para ellos amanecer.

21 Y pasarán por la tierra oprimidos y hambrientos; y sucederá que cuando tengan hambre, se enojarán y maldecirán a su rey y a su Dios, volviendo el rostro hacia arriba.

22 Después mirarán hacia la tierra, y he aquí, tribulación y tinieblas, lobreguez y angustia, y serán lanzados a la oscuridad.

1 Then God told me, "Get a big sheet of paper and write in indelible ink, 'This belongs to Maher-shalal-hash-baz (Spoil-Speeds-Plunder-Hurries).'"

4 Before that baby says 'Daddy' or 'Mamma' the king of Assyria will have plundered the wealth of Damascus and the riches of Samaria."

5 God spoke to me again, saying:

6 "Because this people has turned its back on the gently flowing stream of Shiloah And gotten all excited over Rezin and the son of Remaliah,

7 I'm stepping in and facing them with the wild floodwaters of the Euphrates, The king of Assyria and all his fanfare, a river in flood, bursting its banks,

8 Pouring into Judah, sweeping everything before it, water up to your necks, A huge wingspan of a raging river, O Immanuel, spreading across your land."

9 But face the facts, all you oppressors, and then wring your hands. Listen, all of you, far and near. Prepare for the worst and wring your hands. Yes, prepare for the worst and wring your hands!

10 Plan and plot all you want - nothing will come of it. All your talk is mere talk, empty words, Because when all is said and done, the last word is Immanuel - God-With-Us. A Boulder Blocking Your Way

11 God spoke strongly to me, grabbed me with both hands and warned me not to go along with this people. He said:

12 "Don't be like this people, always afraid somebody is plotting against them. Don't fear what they fear. Don't take on their worries.

13 If you're going to worry, worry about The Holy. Fear God-of-the-Angel-Armies.

14 The Holy can be either a Hiding Place or a Boulder blocking your way, The Rock standing in the willful way of both houses of Israel, A barbed-wire Fence preventing trespass to the citizens of Jerusalem.

15 Many of them are going to run into that Rock and get their bones broken, Get tangled up in that barbed wire and not get free of it."

16 Gather up the testimony, preserve the teaching for my followers,

17 While I wait for God as long as he remains in hiding, while I wait and hope for him.

18 I stand my ground and hope, I and the children God gave me as signs to Israel, Warning signs and hope signs from God-of-the-Angel-Armies, who makes his home in Mount Zion.

19 When people tell you, "Try out the fortunetellers. Consult the spiritualists. Why not tap into the spirit-world, get in touch with the dead?"
