1 Perciocchè il Signore avrà pietà di Giacobbe, ed eleggerà ancora Israele, e li farà riposar sopra la lor terra; e gli stranieri si aggiungeranno con loro, e si accompagneranno con la casa di Giacobbe.

2 E i popoli li prenderanno, e li condurranno al luogo loro; e la casa d’Israele li possederà nella terra del Signore, per servi e per serve; e terranno in cattività quelli che li aveano tenuti in cattività, e signoreggeranno sopra i loro oppressatori.

3 Ed avverrà che nel giorno che il Signore ti avrà dato riposo del tuo affanno, del tuo commovimento, e della dura servitù, nella quale altri ti avrà fatto servire,

4 tu proverbierai così il re di Babilonia, e dirai: Come è restato l’esattore? come è cessato il tributo?

5 Il Signore ha rotto il bastone degli empi, la verga de’ dominatori.

6 Colui che con furore percoteva i popoli di percosse, che non si potevano schivare, il qual signoreggiava le genti con ira, ora è perseguito, senza che possa difendersi.

7 Tutta la terra è in riposo, e quieta; gli uomini fanno risonar grida di allegrezza.

8 Gli abeti ancora e i cedri del Libano si son rallegrati di te, dicendo: Da che tu sei stato atterrato, niuno è salito contro a noi, per tagliarci.

9 L’inferno disotto si è commosso per te, per andarti incontro alla tua venuta; egli ha fatti muovere i giganti, tutti i principi della terra, per te; egli ha fatti levare d’in su i lor troni tutti i re delle nazioni.

10 Essi tutti ti faranno motto, e diranno: Anche tu sei stato fiaccato come noi, e sei divenuto simile a noi.

11 La tua alterezza è stata posta giù nell’inferno, al suono de’ tuoi salteri; e si è fatto sotto te un letto di vermini, e i lombrici son la tua coverta.

12 Come sei caduto dal cielo, o stella mattutina, figliuol dell’aurora? come sei stato riciso ed abbattuto in terra? come sei caduto sopra le genti, tutto spossato?

13 E pur tu dicevi nel cuor tuo: Io salirò in cielo, io innalzerò il mio trono sopra le stelle di Dio, e sederò nel monte della raunanza, ne’ lati di verso il Settentrione.

14 Io salirò sopra i luoghi eccelsi delle nuvole, io mi farò somigliante all’Altissimo.

15 Pur sei stato calato nell’inferno nel fondo della fossa.

16 Quelli che ti vedranno ti riguarderanno, e ti considereranno dicendo: È costui quell’uomo che facea tremare la terra, che scrollava i regni?

17 Il quale ha ridotto il mondo come in un deserto, ed ha distrutte le sue città, e non ha sciolti i suoi prigioni, per rimandarli a casa?

18 Tutti quanti i re delle genti giacciono in gloria, ciascuno in casa sua.

19 Ma tu sei stato gittato via dalla tua sepoltura, come un rampollo abbominevole; come veste di uccisi, trafitti dalla spada, che scendono alle pietre della fossa; come un corpo morto calpestato.

20 Tu non sarai aggiunto con coloro nella sepoltura; perciocchè tu hai guasta la tua terra, tu hai ucciso il tuo popolo; la progenie dei malfattori non sarà nominata in perpetuo.

21 Preparate l’uccisione a’ suoi figliuoli, per l’iniquità de’ lor padri; acciocchè non si levino, e non posseggano la terra, e non empiano di città la superficie del mondo.

22 Io mi leverò contro a loro, dice il Signor degli eserciti; e sterminerò a Babilonia nome e rimanente, figliuolo e nipote, dice il Signore.

23 E la ridurrò in possession di civette, e in paludi di acque; e la spazzerò con iscope di distruzione, dice il Signor degli eserciti.

24 IL Signor degli eserciti ha giurato, dicendo: Se egli non avviene così come io ho pensato; e se la cosa non è messa ad effetto, secondo il consiglio che io ho preso;

25 che è, di romper l’Assiro nella mia terra, e di calcarlo sopra i miei monti; talchè il suo giogo sia rimosso da essi, e il suo incarico d’in su le loro spalle.

26 Quest’è il consiglio preso contro a tutta la terra; e questa è la mano stesa contro a tutte le genti.

27 Perciocchè il Signor degli eserciti ne ha preso il consiglio; e chi l’annullerebbe? e la sua mano è quella che è stesa; e chi la farebbe rivolgere?

28 Questo carico fu rivelato nell’anno che morì il re Achaz.

29 NON rallegrarti, o Palestina tutta, di ciò che la verga di colui che ti batteva è stata rotta; perciocchè dalla radice della serpe uscirà un basilisco; e il suo frutto sarà un serpente ardente, e volante.

30 E i primogeniti de’ poveri pastureranno, e i bisognosi giaceranno in sicurtà; ma io farò morir di fame la tua radice, e colui ucciderà il tuo rimanente.

31 Urla, o porta; grida, o città; struggiti, o Palestina tutta; perciocchè viene un fumo dal Settentrione; e niuno se ne starà in disparte a’ tempi ordinati di esso.

32 E che risponderassi agli ambasciatori delle nazioni? Che il Signore ha fondata Sion, e che in essa i poveri afflitti del suo popolo si riducono in salvo. Il carico di Moab.

GOD'S WORD Translation GW

1 The LORD will have compassion for Jacob and again choose Israel. He will resettle them in their own country. Foreigners will join them and unite with the descendants of Jacob.

2 People will take them and bring them to their own place. The nation of Israel will possess nations as male and female slaves in the LORD's land. They will take their captors captive and rule their oppressors.

3 When that day comes, the LORD will give you relief from your pain and suffering, from the hard slavery you were forced to do.

4 Then you will mock the king of Babylon with this saying, "How the tyrant has come to an end! How his attacks have come to an end!"

5 The LORD has broken the staff of the wicked, the scepter of rulers.

6 They struck the people with fury, with blows that didn't stop. They ruled nations in anger, persecuting them without restraint.

7 The whole earth rests and is peaceful. It breaks out into shouts of joy.

8 Even the cypresses rejoice over you. The cedars of Lebanon say, "Since you have fallen, no lumberjack has come to attack us."

9 Sheol below wakes up to meet you when you come. It wakes up the ghosts of the dead, all who were leaders on earth. It raises all who were kings of the nations from their thrones.

10 All of them will greet you, "You also have become weak like us! You have become like one of us!"

11 Your pride has been brought down to Sheol along with the music of your harps. Maggots are spread out [like a bed] under you, and worms cover you.

12 How you have fallen from heaven, you morning star, son of the dawn! How you have been cut down to the ground, you conqueror of nations!

13 You thought, "I'll go up to heaven and set up my throne above God's stars. I'll sit on the mountain far away in the north where the gods assemble.

14 I'll go above the top of the clouds. I'll be like the Most High."

15 But you've been brought down to Sheol, to the deepest part of the pit.

16 Those who see you stare at you; they look at you closely and say, "Is this the man who made the earth tremble, who shook the kingdoms,

17 who made the world like a desert and tore down its cities, who didn't let his prisoners go home?"

18 All the kings of the nations, all of them, have been buried with honor, each in his own tomb.

19 But you are thrown out of your tomb like a rejected branch. You are covered with those who were killed in battle. You go down to the stones of the pit like a trampled corpse.

20 You won't be joined by the kings in the tomb, because you have destroyed your land and killed your people. The descendants of the wicked will never be mentioned again.

21 Prepare a place to slaughter their sons because of their ancestors' guilt. They won't be able to rise, possess the earth, and rebuild cities all over it.

22 "I'll rise up against them," declares the LORD of Armies. "I'll cut off the name of the survivors from Babylon, its offspring and descendants," declares the LORD.

23 "It will become the possession of herons. It will become pools of water. I'll sweep it with the broom of destruction," declares the LORD of Armies.

24 The LORD of Armies has taken an oath: "It will happen exactly as I've intended. It will turn out exactly as I've planned.

25 I'll crush Assyria on my land. I'll trample it underfoot on my mountains. Then its yoke will be removed from my people, and its burden will be removed from their shoulders."

26 This is the plan determined for the whole earth. This is how he will use his power against all the nations.

27 The LORD of Armies has planned it. Who can stop it? He is ready to use his power. Who can turn it back?

28 This was the divine revelation in the year King Ahaz died.

29 All you Philistines, don't rejoice that the rod of the one who struck you is broken, because a viper will come from that snake's root, and his descendant will be a flying, fiery serpent.

30 The poorest of the poor will eat, and the needy will lie down in safety. But I will put your root to death with famine and kill off your survivors.

31 Cry loudly in the gate! Cry out in the city! Be frightened, all you Philistines! Smoke comes from the north, and there are no stragglers in its ranks.

32 How should we answer the messengers from the nations? [Tell them that] the LORD has laid Zion's foundation, and his humble people will find refuge in it.
