1 ECCO il Signore, cavalcando una nuvola leggiera, entrerà in Egitto; e gl’idoli di Egitto fuggiranno d’innanzi a lui, e il cuor degli Egizi si struggerà in mezzo di loro.

2 Ed io farò, dice il Signore, venire alla mischia Egizi contro ad Egizi; e ciascuno combatterà contro al suo fratello, e ciascuno contro al suo prossimo; città contro a città, regno contro a regno.

3 E lo spirito dell’Egitto verrà meno nel mezzo di esso; ed io dissiperò il lor consiglio; ed essi domanderanno gl’idoli, e i magi, e gli spiriti di Pitone, e gl’indovini.

4 Ed io metterò gli Egizi in mano d’un signore duro, ed un re violento signoreggerà sopra loro, dice il Signore, il Signor degli eserciti.

5 E le acque del mare mancheranno, e il fiume sarà seccato ed asciutto.

6 E i fiumi si ritrarranno, e i rivi del forte paese scemeranno, e si seccheranno; le canne e i giunchi si appasseranno.

7 Le praterie che son presso al fiume, in su la bocca del fiume, e tutti i seminati del fiume si seccheranno, e saranno dissipati e non saranno più.

8 E i pescatori si lamenteranno, e tutti quelli che gittano l’amo nel rivo piangeranno, e coloro che stendono la rete sopra le acque languiranno.

9 E quelli che fanno lavori di lino finissimo, e che tessono le fine tele bianche, saranno confusi.

10 E gli argini di Egitto, di tutti coloro che fanno chiusure per vivai, saranno rotti.

11 Certo, i principi di Soan son pazzi; i più savi d’infra i consiglieri di Faraone sono un consiglio insensato; come dite voi a Faraone: Io son figliuolo di savi; io son figliuolo di re antichi?

12 Dove sono ora i tuoi savi? dichiarinti ora, e sappiano qual consiglio il Signor degli eserciti ha preso contro all’Egitto.

13 I principi di Soan sono impazzati, i principi di Nof sono stati sedotti, ed i capi delle tribù di Egitto l’han traviato.

14 Il Signore ha mesciuto in mezzo di esso uno spirito di stordimento, ed essi hanno fatto errar l’Egitto in tutte le sue opere; come l’ubbriaco va errando nel suo vomito.

15 E niuna opera, che faccia il capo o la coda, il ramo o il giunco, gioverà all’Egitto.

16 In quel giorno gli Egizi saranno come donne; e tremeranno, e saranno spaventati per lo scuotere della mano del Signor degli eserciti, la quale egli scoterà sopra loro.

17 E la terra di Giuda sarà in ispavento all’Egitto; chiunque si ricorderà di essa si spaventerà in sè stesso, per lo consiglio del Signor degli eserciti, il quale egli ha preso contro a quello.

18 In quel giorno vi saranno cinque città nel paese di Egitto, che parleranno il linguaggio di Canaan, e giureranno al Signor degli eserciti; una di quella sarà chiamata: Città del sole.

19 In quel giorno vi sarà, in mezzo del paese di Egitto, un altare consacrato al Signore; e un piliere rizzato al Signore, presso al suo confine.

20 E quello sarà per segnale, e per testimonianza al Signor degli eserciti, nel paese di Egitto. Quando gli Egizi grideranno al Signore per li loro oppressatori, egli manderà loro un Salvatore, ed un Grande, che li riscoterà.

21 E il Signore sarà conosciuto all’Egitto; e in quel giorno gli Egizi conosceranno il Signore, e faranno il servigio di sacrificii e di offerte; e faranno voti al Signore, e li adempieranno.

22 Così il Signore percoterà gli Egizi; e dopo averli percossi, li guarirà; ed essi si convertiranno al Signore, ed egli sarà placato inverso loro, e li sanerà.

23 In quel giorno vi sarà una strada di Egitto in Assiria; e l’Assiro verrà in Egitto, e l’Egizio in Assiria; e gli Egizi con gli Assiri serviranno al Signore.

24 In quel giorno Israele sarà il terzo con l’Egizio e con l’Assiro; vi sarà benedizione in mezzo della terra.

25 Perciocchè il Signor degli eserciti li benedirà, dicendo: Benedetto sia Egitto, mio popolo, ed Assur, opera delle mie mani, ed Israele, mia eredità.

1 This is the divine revelation about Egypt. The LORD is riding on a fast-moving cloud and is coming to Egypt. Egypt's idols will tremble in his presence. Egypt's courage will fail.

2 "I will turn one Egyptian against another. They will fight-- brother against brother, neighbor against neighbor, city against city, kingdom against kingdom.

3 The Egyptians will lose courage. I will unravel their plans. They will turn to idols, ghosts, mediums, and fortunetellers.

4 I will hand over the Egyptians to a harsh master. A strong king will rule them," declares the Almighty LORD of Armies.

5 The water in the Nile River will be dried up, and the river will be dry and empty.

6 The canals will stink. Egypt's streams will be emptied and dried up. The reeds and cattails will wither.

7 The rushes by the Nile, by the edge of the Nile, and all the fields planted beside the Nile will dry up, be blown away, and disappear.

8 Fishermen will cry. All who cast their lines into the Nile will mourn. Those who spread their nets on the water will sigh.

9 Linenworkers and weavers will be ashamed.

10 Egypt's weavers will be crushed. Those who work for money will be distressed.

11 The leaders of Zoan are nothing but fools. The wisest of Pharaoh's counselors gives stupid advice. How can you tell Pharaoh, "I'm a descendant of wise men, a descendant of ancient kings"?

12 Where are your wise men now? Let them tell you. Let them explain what the LORD of Armies is planning against Egypt.

13 The leaders of Zoan are acting foolishly. The leaders of Memphis are led astray. The leaders who are the cornerstones of its tribes mislead the Egyptians.

14 The LORD mixes up their minds. So they lead the Egyptians astray like a drunk who staggers in his vomit.

15 No one--leaders or followers, important or unimportant-- can do anything for Egypt.

16 At that time Egyptians will act like women. They will tremble and be terrified because the LORD of Armies will shake his fist at them.

17 The land of Judah will terrify the Egyptians. Whenever they are reminded of Judah, they will be terrified of it because of what the LORD of Armies is planning against it.

18 When that day comes, five cities in Egypt will have people that speak the language of Canaan and swear allegiance to the LORD of Armies. One of the cities will be called Heliopolis.

19 When that day comes, an altar for the LORD will be in the middle of Egypt, and a stone marker for the LORD will be near its border.

20 These objects will be a sign and a witness that the LORD of Armies is in Egypt. When the people cry to the LORD because of those who oppress them, he will send a savior and defender to rescue them.

21 So the LORD will make himself known to the Egyptians. The Egyptians will know the LORD when that day comes. They will worship with sacrifices and food offerings. They will make vows to the LORD and carry them out.

22 The LORD will strike Egypt with a plague. When he strikes them, he will also heal them. Then they will come back to the LORD. And he will respond to their prayers and heal them.

23 When that day comes, a highway will run from Egypt to Assyria. The Assyrians will come to Egypt and the Egyptians to Assyria, and the Egyptians will worship with the Assyrians.

24 When that day comes, Israel will be one-third [of God's people], along with Egypt and Assyria. They will be a blessing on the earth.

25 The LORD of Armies will bless them, saying, "My people Egypt, the work of my hands Assyria, and my possession Israel are blessed."
