1 ECCO, il Signore vuota il paese, e lo deserta; e ne guasta la faccia, e ne disperge gli abitatori.

2 E il sacerdote sarà come il popolo, il padrone come il servo, la padrona come la serva, chi compera come chi vende, chi presta come chi prende in presto, chi dà ad usura come chi prende ad usura.

3 Il paese sarà del tutto vuotato, e del tutto predato; perciocchè il Signore ha pronunziata questa parola.

4 La terra fa cordoglio, ed è scaduta; il mondo langue, ed è scaduto; i più eccelsi del popolo del paese languiscono.

5 E la terra è stata contaminata sotto i suoi abitatori; perciocchè hanno trasgredite le leggi, hanno mutati gli statuti, hanno rotto il patto eterno.

6 Perciò, l’esecrazione ha divorato il paese, e gli abitanti di esso sono stati desolati; perciò, sono stati arsi gli abitanti del paese, e pochi uomini ne son rimasti.

7 Il mosto fa cordoglio, la vigna langue; tutti quelli ch’erano di cuore allegro gemono.

8 L’allegrezza de’ tamburi è cessata, lo strepito de’ festeggianti è venuto meno, la letizia della cetera è restata.

9 Ei non si berrà più vino con canti, la cervogia sarà amara a quelli che la berranno.

10 La città è ruinata e ridotta in solitudine; ogni casa è serrata, sì che non vi si entra più.

11 Vi è grido per le piazze, per mancamento del vino; ogni allegrezza è scurata, la gioia del paese è andata in cattività.

12 Nella città non è rimasto altro che la desolazione; e le porte sono rotte e ruinate.

13 Perciocchè avverrà in mezzo del paese, fra i popoli, come quando si scuotono gli ulivi; come, finita la vendemmia, si racimola.

14 Quelli che saran così rimasti alzeranno la lor voce, e canteranno di allegrezza; e strilleranno fin dal mare, per l’altezza del Signore.

15 Perciò, glorificate il Signore nel paese degli Urei, il Nome del Signore Iddio d’Israele nelle isole del mare.

16 Noi abbiamo uditi cantici dall’estremità della terra, che dicevano: Gloria al giusto. Ed io ho detto: Ahi lasso me! ahi lasso me! guai a me! i disleali procedono dislealmente; anzi procedono dislealmente, della dislealtà de’ più disleali.

17 Lo spavento, la fossa, e il laccio, ti soprastano, o abitante del paese.

18 Ed avverrà, che chi fuggirà per lo grido dello spavento caderà nella fossa; e chi salirà fuor di mezzo della fossa sarà preso col laccio; perciocchè le cateratte da alto saranno aperte, e i fondamenti della terra tremeranno.

19 La terra si schianterà tutta, la terra si disfarà tutta, la terra tremerà tutta.

20 La terra vacillerà tutta come un ebbro, e sarà mossa dal suo luogo come una capanna; e il suo misfatto si aggraverà sopra lei; ed ella caderà, e non risorgerà più.

21 E in quel giorno avverrà, che il Signore farà, ne’ luoghi sovrani, punizione sopra l’esercito de’ luoghi sovrani; e sopra la terra, punizione dei re della terra.

22 E saranno adunati insieme, come si adunano i prigioni in una fossa; e saranno rinchiusi in un serraglio; e dopo un lungo tempo, saranno visitati.

23 E la luna si vergognerà, e il sole sarà confuso, quando il Signor degli eserciti regnerà nel monte di Sion, e in Gerusalemme; e vi sarà gloria davanti agli anziani di essa.

GOD'S WORD Translation GW

1 The LORD is going to turn the earth into a desolate wasteland. He will mar the face of the earth and scatter the people living on it.

2 The same will happen to people and priests, male slaves and masters, female slaves and masters, buyers and sellers, lenders and borrowers, debtors and creditors.

3 The earth will be completely laid waste and stripped because the LORD has spoken.

4 The earth dries up and withers. The world wastes away and withers. The great leaders of the earth waste away.

5 The earth is polluted by those who live on it because they've disobeyed the LORD's teachings, violated his laws, and rejected the everlasting promise.

6 That is why a curse devours the earth, and its people are punished for their guilt. That is why those who live on the earth are burned up, and only a few people are left.

7 New wine dries up, and grapevines waste away. All happy people groan.

8 Joyful tambourine music stops. Noisy celebrations cease. Joyful harp music stops.

9 People no longer drink wine when they sing. Liquor tastes bad to its drinkers.

10 The ruined city lies desolate. The entrance to every house is barred shut.

11 People in the streets call for wine. All joy passes away, and the earth's happiness is banished.

12 The city is left in ruins. Its gate is battered to pieces.

13 That is the way it will be on earth among the nations. They will be like an olive tree which has been shaken or like what's left after the grape harvest.

14 They raise their voices. They shout for joy. From the sea they sing joyfully about the LORD's majesty.

15 Honor the LORD in the east. Honor the name of the LORD God of Israel along the coastlands.

16 From the ends of the earth we hear songs of praise that honor the Righteous One. But I kept saying, "I'm wasting away! I'm wasting away! How horrible it is for me! Traitors continue to betray, and their treachery grows worse and worse."

17 Disasters, pits, and traps are in store for those who live on earth.

18 Whoever flees from news of a disaster will fall into a pit. Whoever climbs out of that pit will be caught in a trap. The floodgates in the sky will be opened, and the foundations of the earth will shake.

19 The earth will be completely broken. The earth will shake back and forth violently. The earth will stagger.

20 The earth will stumble like a drunk and sway like a shack in the wind. Its disobedience weighs heavy on it. It will fall and not get up again.

21 On that day the LORD will punish heaven's armies in heaven and earth's kings on earth.

22 They'll be gathered like prisoners in a jail and locked in prison. After a long time they'll be punished.

23 The moon will be embarrassed. The sun will be ashamed, because the LORD of Armies will rule on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem. He will be glorious in the presence of his respected leaders.
