1 GUAI a coloro che scendono in Egitto per soccorso, e si appoggiano sopra cavalli, e si confidano in carri, perchè son molti; e in cavalieri, perchè sono in grandissimo numero; e non riguardano al Santo d’Israele, e non cercano il Signore!

How horrible it will be for those who go to Egypt for help, who rely on horses, who depend on many chariots, who depend on very strong war horses. They don't look to the Holy One of Israel. They don't seek the LORD.
2 E pure anch’egli è savio, ed ha fatto venire il male, e non ha rivocate le sue parole, e si è levato contro alla casa de’ maligni, e contro al soccorso degli operatori di iniquità.

He is wise and can bring about disaster. He doesn't take back his words. He rises against wicked people and against those who help troublemakers.
3 Ma gli Egizi sono uomini, e non Dio; ed i lor cavalli son carne, e non ispirito. E il Signore stenderà la sua mano; onde l’aiutatore traboccherà, e l’aiutato caderà; e tutti insieme saran consumati.

The Egyptians are humans, not gods. Their horses are flesh and blood, not spirit. When the LORD uses his powerful hand, the one who gives help will stumble, and the one who receives help will fall. Both will die together.
4 Ma, così mi ha detto il Signore: Siccome il leone ed il leoncello freme sopra la preda; e benchè si raduni a grida una moltitudine di pastori contro a lui, non però si spaventa per le lor grida, e non si umilia per lo strepito loro; così scenderà il Signor degli eserciti, per guerreggiare per lo monte di Sion, e per lo colle di essa.

This is what the LORD said to me: A lion, even a young lion, growls over its prey when a crowd of shepherds is called to fight it. It isn't frightened by their voices or disturbed by the noise they make. So the LORD of Armies will come to fight for Mount Zion and its hill.
5 Come gli uccelli, volando, coprono i lor figli, così il Signor degli eserciti farà riparo a Gerusalemme; facendole riparo, e riscotendola; passando, e salvandola.

The LORD of Armies will defend Jerusalem like a hovering bird. He will defend it and rescue it. He will pass over it and protect it.
6 Convertitevi a colui, dal quale i figliuoli di Israele si sono profondamente rivolti.

You people of Israel, return to the one whom you have so violently rebelled against.
7 Perciocchè in quel giorno ciascuno avrà a schifo gl’idoli del suo argento, e gl’idoli del suo oro, i quali le vostre mani vi hanno fatti a peccato.

When that day comes, all of you will reject the silver and gold idols that your sinful hands have made.
8 Ed Assur caderà per la spada, non di un uomo; e il coltello, non di una persona umana, lo divorerà; ed egli se ne fuggirà d’innanzi alla spada, e i suoi giovani saran disfatti.

Then Assyrians will be killed with swords not made by human hands. Swords not made by human hands will destroy them. They will flee from battle, and their young men will be made to do forced labor.
9 Ed egli passerà nella sua rocca per paura, e i suoi principi saranno spaventati per la bandiera, dice il Signore, il cui fuoco è in Sion, e la fornace in Gerusalemme.

In terror they will run to their stronghold, and their officers will be frightened at [the sight of] the battle flag. The LORD declares this. His fire is in Zion and his furnace is in Jerusalem.
