James 5

HNV 1 Come now, you rich, weep and howl for your miseries that are coming on you. NIV 1 Now listen, you rich people, weep and wail because of the misery that is coming on you. HNV 2 Your riches are corrupted and your garments are moth-eaten. NIV 2 Your wealth has rotted, and moths have eaten your clothes. HNV 3 Your gold and your silver are corroded, and their corrosion will be for a testimony against you, and will eat your flesh like fire. You have laid up your treasure in the last days. NIV 3 Your gold and silver are corroded. Their corrosion will testify against you and eat your flesh like fire. You have hoarded wealth in the last days. HNV 4 Behold, the wages of the laborers who mowed your fields, which you have kept back by fraud, cries out, and the cries of those who reaped have entered into the ears of the Lord of Hosts. NIV 4 Look! The wages you failed to pay the workers who mowed your fields are crying out against you. The cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord Almighty. HNV 5 You have lived delicately on the eretz, and taken your pleasure. You have nourished your hearts as in a day of slaughter. NIV 5 You have lived on earth in luxury and self-indulgence. You have fattened yourselves in the day of slaughter. HNV 6 You have condemned, you have murdered the righteous one. He doesn't resist you. NIV 6 You have condemned and murdered the innocent one, who was not opposing you. HNV 7 Be patient therefore, brothers, until the coming of the Lord. Behold, the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the eretz, being patient over it, until it receives the early and late rain. NIV 7 Be patient, then, brothers and sisters, until the Lord’s coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop, patiently waiting for the autumn and spring rains. HNV 8 You also be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand. NIV 8 You too, be patient and stand firm, because the Lord’s coming is near. HNV 9 Don't grumble, brothers, against one another, so that you won't be judged. Behold, the judge stands at the door. NIV 9 Don’t grumble against one another, brothers and sisters, or you will be judged. The Judge is standing at the door! HNV 10 Take, brothers, for an example of suffering and of patience, the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord. NIV 10 Brothers and sisters, as an example of patience in the face of suffering, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord. HNV 11 Behold, we call them blessed who endured. You have heard of the patience of Iyov, and have seen the Lord in the end, and how the Lord is full of compassion and mercy. NIV 11 As you know, we count as blessed those who have persevered. You have heard of Job’s perseverance and have seen what the Lord finally brought about. The Lord is full of compassion and mercy. HNV 12 But above all things, my brothers, don't swear, neither by heaven, nor by the eretz, nor by any other oath; but let your yes be yes, and your no, no; so that you don't fall into hypocrisy. NIV 12 Above all, my brothers and sisters, do not swear—not by heaven or by earth or by anything else. All you need to say is a simple “Yes” or “No.” Otherwise you will be condemned. HNV 13 Is any among you suffering? Let him pray. Is any cheerful? Let him sing praises. NIV 13 Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray. Is anyone happy? Let them sing songs of praise. HNV 14 Is any among you sick? Let him call for the Zakenim of the assembly, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord, NIV 14 Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. HNV 15 and the prayer of faith will heal him who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. If he has committed sins, it will be forgiven him. NIV 15 And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven. HNV 16 Confess your offenses one to another, and pray one for another, that you may be healed. The effective, earnest prayer of a righteous man is powerfully effective. NIV 16 Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective. HNV 17 Eliyah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain, and it didn't rain on the eretz for three years and six months. NIV 17 Elijah was a human being, even as we are. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years. HNV 18 He prayed again, and the sky gave rain, and the eretz brought forth its fruit. NIV 18 Again he prayed, and the heavens gave rain, and the earth produced its crops. HNV 19 Brothers, if any among you wanders from the truth, and someone turns him back, NIV 19 My brothers and sisters, if one of you should wander from the truth and someone should bring that person back, HNV 20 let him know, that he who converts a sinner from the error of his way will save a soul from death, and will cover a multitude of sins. NIV 20 remember this: Whoever turns a sinner from the error of their way will save them from death and cover over a multitude of sins.
