1 Al principio del reinado de Sedequías, hijo de Josías, rey de Judá, vino esta palabra de parte del SEÑOR a Jeremías, diciendo:

2 Así me ha dicho el SEÑOR: Hazte coyundas y yugos y póntelos al cuello,

3 y envía palabra al rey de Edom, al rey de Moab, al rey de los hijos de Amón, al rey de Tiro y al rey de Sidón por medio de los mensajeros que vienen a Jerusalén a ver a Sedequías, rey de Judá.

4 Y ordénales que digan a sus señores: "Así dice el SEÑOR de los ejércitos, el Dios de Israel, así diréis a vuestros señores:

5 'Yo hice la tierra, los hombres y los animales que están sobre la faz de la tierra con mi gran poder y con mi brazo extendido, y la doy a quien me place.

6 'Y ahora yo he puesto todas estas tierras en manos de mi siervo Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia, siervo mío, y también las bestias del campo le he dado para que le sirvan.

7 'Y todas las naciones le servirán a él, a su hijo, y al hijo de su hijo, hasta que llegue también la hora a su propia tierra; entonces muchas naciones y grandes reyes lo harán su siervo.

8 'Y sucederá que la nación o el reino que no sirva a Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia, y que no ponga su cerviz bajo el yugo del rey de Babilonia, con espada, con hambre y con pestilencia a esa nación castigaré'declara el SEÑOR"hasta que yo la haya destruido por su mano.

9 'Vosotros, pues, no escuchéis a vuestros profetas, a vuestros adivinos, a vuestros soñadores, a vuestros agoreros ni a vuestros hechiceros que os hablan, diciendo: "No serviréis al rey de Babilonia."

10 'Porque ellos os profetizan mentira, para alejaros de vuestra tierra, y para que yo os expulse y perezcáis.

11 'Pero la nación que ponga su cerviz bajo el yugo del rey de Babilonia y le sirva, la dejaré en su tierra'declara el SEÑOR"y la cultivará y habitará en ella.'"

12 Y a Sedequías, rey de Judá, hablé palabras como éstas, diciendo: Poned vuestra cerviz bajo el yugo del rey de Babilonia, y servidle a él y a su pueblo, y viviréis.

13 ¿Por qué habéis de morir, tú y tu pueblo, por la espada, el hambre y la pestilencia, tal como ha hablado el SEÑOR de la nación que no sirva al rey de Babilonia?

14 No escuchéis, pues, las palabras de los profetas que os hablan, diciendo: "No serviréis al rey de Babilonia", porque os profetizan mentira.

15 Yo no los he enviadodeclara el SEÑORy ellos profetizan mentira en mi nombre, para que yo os expulse y perezcáis vosotros y los profetas que os profetizan.

16 Y hablé a los sacerdotes y a todo este pueblo, diciendo: Así dice el SEÑOR: No escuchéis las palabras de vuestros profetas que os profetizan, diciendo: "He aquí, los utensilios de la casa del SEÑOR serán devueltos en breve de Babilonia", porque ellos os profetizan mentira.

17 No los escuchéis; servid al rey de Babilonia y viviréis. ¿Por qué ha de convertirse en ruinas esta ciudad?

18 Mas si ellos son profetas, y si la palabra del SEÑOR está con ellos, que supliquen ahora al SEÑOR de los ejércitos para que los utensilios que quedan en la casa del SEÑOR, en la casa del rey de Judá y en Jerusalén, no sean llevados a Babilonia.

19 Porque así dice el SEÑOR de los ejércitos acerca de las columnas, del mar, de las basas y de los demás utensilios que quedan en esta ciudad,

20 los cuales no tomó Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia, cuando llevó al destierro a Jeconías, hijo de Joacim, rey de Judá, de Jerusalén a Babilonia con todos los nobles de Judá y de Jerusalén.

21 Sí, así dice el SEÑOR de los ejércitos, el Dios de Israel, acerca de los utensilios que quedan en la casa del SEÑOR, en la casa del rey de Judá y en Jerusalén:

22 "A Babilonia serán llevados, y allí quedarán hasta el día en que yo los visite"declara el SEÑOR. "Entonces los traeré y los restituiré a este lugar."

1 Early in the reign of Zedekiah son of Josiah king of Judah, Jeremiah received this Message from God:

2 "Make a harness and a yoke and then harness yourself up.

3 Send a message to the kings of Edom, Moab, Ammon, Tyre, and Sidon. Send it through their ambassadors who have come to Jerusalem to see Zedekiah king of Judah.

4 Give them this charge to take back to their masters: 'This is a Message from God-of-the-Angel-Armies, the God of Israel. Tell your masters:

5 "'I'm the one who made the earth, man and woman, and all the animals in the world. I did it on my own without asking anyone's help and I hand it out to whomever I will.

6 Here and now I give all these lands over to my servant Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon. I have made even the wild animals subject to him.

7 All nations will be under him, then his son, and then his grandson. Then his country's time will be up and the tables will be turned: Babylon will be the underdog servant.

8 But until then, any nation or kingdom that won't submit to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon must take the yoke of the king of Babylon and harness up. I'll punish that nation with war and starvation and disease until I've got them where I want them.

9 "'So don't for a minute listen to all your prophets and spiritualists and fortunetellers, who claim to know the future and who tell you not to give in to the king of Babylon.

10 They're handing you a line of lies, barefaced lies, that will end up putting you in exile far from home. I myself will drive you out of your lands, and that'll be the end of you.

11 But the nation that accepts the yoke of the king of Babylon and does what he says, I'll let that nation stay right where it is, minding its own business.'"

12 Then I gave this same message to Zedekiah king of Judah: "Harness yourself up to the yoke of the king of Babylon. Serve him and his people. Live a long life!

13 Why choose to get killed or starve to death or get sick and die, which is what God has threatened to any nation that won't throw its lot in with Babylon?

14 Don't listen to the prophets who are telling you not to submit to the king of Babylon. They're telling you lies, preaching lies.

15 God's Word on this is, 'I didn't send those prophets, but they keep preaching lies, claiming I sent them. If you listen to them, I'll end up driving you out of here and that will be the end of you, both you and the lying prophets.'"

16 And finally I spoke to the priests and the people at large: "This is God's Message: Don't listen to the preaching of the prophets who keep telling you, 'Trust us: The furnishings, plundered from God's Temple, are going to be returned from Babylon any day now.' That's a lie.

17 Don't listen to them. Submit to the king of Babylon and live a long life. Why do something that will destroy this city and leave it a heap of rubble?

18 If they are real prophets and have a Message from God, let them come to God-of-the-Angel-Armies in prayer so that the furnishings that are still left in God's Temple, the king's palace, and Jerusalem aren't also lost to Babylon.

19 That's because God-of-the-Angel-Armies has already spoken about the Temple furnishings that remain - the pillars, the great bronze basin, the stands, and all the other bowls and chalices

20 that Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon didn't take when he took Jehoiachin son of Jehoiakim off to Babylonian exile along with all the leaders of Judah and Jerusalem.

21 He said that the furnishings left behind in the Temple of God and in the royal palace and in Jerusalem

22 will be taken off to Babylon and stay there until, in God's words, 'I take the matter up again and bring them back where they belong.'"
