1 Palabra que vino a Jeremías de parte del SEÑOR en los días de Joacim, hijo de Josías, rey de Judá, diciendo:

2 Ve a la casa de los recabitas, habla con ellos, llévalos a la casa del SEÑOR, a una de las cámaras, y dales a beber vino.

3 Entonces tomé a Jaazanías, hijo de Jeremías, hijo de Habasinías, y a sus hermanos, a todos sus hijos y a toda la casa de los recabitas,

4 y los llevé a la casa del SEÑOR, a la cámara de los hijos de Hanán, hijo de Igdalías, hombre de Dios, la cual estaba cerca de la cámara de los oficiales, que estaba encima de la cámara de Maasías, hijo de Salum, guarda del umbral.

5 Entonces puse delante de los hombres de la casa de los recabitas jarras llenas de vino y tazas, y les dije: Bebed vino.

6 Mas ellos dijeron: No beberemos vino, porque Jonadab, hijo de Recab, nuestro padre, nos ordenó, diciendo: "No beberéis vino jamás, ni vosotros ni vuestros hijos.

7 "No edificaréis casa, ni sembraréis simiente, ni plantaréis viña, ni poseeréis ninguna, sino que habitaréis en tiendas todos vuestros días, para que viváis muchos días en la tierra donde sois peregrinos."

8 Y nosotros hemos obedecido la voz de Jonadab, hijo de Recab, nuestro padre, en todo lo que él nos mandó de no beber vino en todos nuestros días, ni nosotros, ni nuestras mujeres, ni nuestros hijos, ni nuestras hijas,

9 y de no edificarnos casa en donde morar, y de no tener viña, ni campo, ni sementera.

10 Hemos habitado solamente en tiendas, y hemos obedecido y hecho conforme a todo lo que nos mandó nuestro padre Jonadab.

11 Pero sucedió que cuando Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia, subió contra la tierra, dijimos: "Venid y huyamos a Jerusalén ante el ejército de los caldeos y ante el ejército de Aram." Por eso habitamos en Jerusalén.

12 Entonces vino palabra del SEÑOR a Jeremías, diciendo:

13 Así dice el SEÑOR de los ejércitos, el Dios de Israel: "Ve y di a los hombres de Judá y a los habitantes de Jerusalén: '¿No aprenderéis a escuchar mis palabras?'declara el SEÑOR.

14 'Las palabras de Jonadab, hijo de Recab, que mandó a sus hijos de no beber vino, son guardadas. Por eso no beben vino hasta hoy, porque han obedecido el mandato de su padre. Pero yo os he hablado repetidas veces, con todo no me habéis escuchado.

15 'También os he enviado a todos mis siervos los profetas, enviándolos repetidas veces, a deciros: "Volveos ahora cada uno de vuestro mal camino, enmendad vuestras obras y no vayáis tras otros dioses para adorarlos, y habitaréis en la tierra que os he dado, a vosotros y a vuestros padres; pero no inclinasteis vuestro oído, ni me escuchasteis.

16 "Ciertamente los hijos de Jonadab, hijo de Recab, han guardado el mandato que su padre les ordenó, pero este pueblo no me ha escuchado.'""

17 Por tanto así dice el SEÑOR, Dios de los ejércitos, el Dios de Israel: "He aquí, traigo sobre Judá y sobre todos los habitantes de Jerusalén toda la calamidad que he pronunciado contra ellos, porque les hablé, pero no escucharon, y los llamé, pero no respondieron."

18 Entonces Jeremías dijo a la casa de los recabitas: Así dice el SEÑOR de los ejércitos, el Dios de Israel: "Por cuanto habéis obedecido el mandato de vuestro padre Jonadab, guardando todos sus mandatos y haciendo conforme a todo lo que él os ordenó,

19 por tanto, así dice el SEÑOR de los ejércitos, el Dios de Israel: 'A Jonadab, hijo de Recab, no le faltará hombre que esté delante de mí todos los días.'"

The Message Bible MSG

1 The Message that Jeremiah received from God ten years earlier, during the time of Jehoiakim son of Josiah king of Israel:

2 "Go visit the Recabite community. Invite them to meet with you in one of the rooms in God's Temple. And serve them wine."

3 So I went and got Jaazaniah son of Jeremiah, son of Habazziniah, along with all his brothers and sons - the whole community of the Recabites as it turned out -

4 and brought them to God's Temple and to the meeting room of Hanan son of Igdaliah, a man of God. It was next to the meeting room of the Temple officials and just over the apartment of Maaseiah son of Shallum, who was in charge of Temple affairs.

5 Then I set out chalices and pitchers of wine for the Recabites and said, "A toast! Drink up!"

6 But they wouldn't do it. "We don't drink wine," they said. "Our ancestor Jonadab son of Recab commanded us, 'You are not to drink wine, you or your children, ever.

7 Neither shall you build houses or settle down, planting fields and gardens and vineyards. Don't own property. Live in tents as nomads so that you will live well and prosper in a wandering life.'

8 "And we've done it, done everything Jonadab son of Recab commanded. We and our wives, our sons and daughters, drink no wine at all.

9 We don't build houses. We don't have vineyards or fields or gardens.

10 We live in tents as nomads. We've listened to our ancestor Jonadab and we've done everything he commanded us.

11 "But when Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon invaded our land, we said, 'Let's go to Jerusalem and get out of the path of the Chaldean and Aramean armies, find ourselves a safe place.' That's why we're living in Jerusalem right now."

12 Then Jeremiah received this Message from God:

13 "God-of-the-Angel-Armies, the God of Israel, wants you to go tell the people of Judah and the citizens of Jerusalem that I say, 'Why won't you learn your lesson and do what I tell you?' God's Decree.

14 'The commands of Jonadab son of Recab to his sons have been carried out to the letter. He told them not to drink wine, and they haven't touched a drop to this very day. They honored and obeyed their ancestor's command. But look at you! I have gone to a lot of trouble to get your attention, and you've ignored me.

15 I sent prophet after prophet to you, all of them my servants, to tell you from early morning to late at night to change your life, make a clean break with your evil past and do what is right, to not take up with every Tom, Dick, and Harry of a god that comes down the pike, but settle down and be faithful in this country I gave your ancestors.

16 The descendants of Jonadab son of Recab carried out to the letter what their ancestor commanded them, but this people ignores me.'

17 "So here's what is going to happen. God-of-the-Angel-Armies, the God of Israel, says, 'I will bring calamity down on the heads of the people of Judah and Jerusalem - the very calamity I warned you was coming - because you turned a deaf ear when I spoke, turned your backs when I called.'"

18 Then, turning to the Recabite community, Jeremiah said, "And this is what God-of-the-Angel-Armies, the God of Israel, says to you: Because you have done what Jonadab your ancestor told you, obeyed his commands and followed through on his instructions,

19 receive this Message from God-of-the-Angel-Armies, the God of Israel: There will always be a descendant of Jonadab son of Recab at my service! Always!'"
