Job 23

MSG 1 Job replied: NIV 1 Then Job replied: MSG 2 "I'm not letting up - I'm standing my ground. My complaint is legitimate. God has no right to treat me like this - it isn't fair! NIV 2 “Even today my complaint is bitter; his hand is heavy in spite of my groaning. MSG 3 If I knew where on earth to find him, I'd go straight to him. NIV 3 If only I knew where to find him; if only I could go to his dwelling! MSG 4 I'd lay my case before him face-to-face, give him all my arguments firsthand NIV 4 I would state my case before him and fill my mouth with arguments. MSG 5 I'd find out exactly what he's thinking, discover what's going on in his head. NIV 5 I would find out what he would answer me, and consider what he would say to me. MSG 6 Do you think he'd dismiss me or bully me? No, he'd take me seriously. NIV 6 Would he vigorously oppose me? No, he would not press charges against me. MSG 7 He'd see a straight-living man standing before him; my Judge would acquit me for good of all charges. NIV 7 There the upright can establish their innocence before him, and there I would be delivered forever from my judge. MSG 8 "I travel East looking for him - I find no one; then West, but not a trace; NIV 8 “But if I go to the east, he is not there; if I go to the west, I do not find him. MSG 9 I go North, but he's hidden his tracks; then South, but not even a glimpse. NIV 9 When he is at work in the north, I do not see him; when he turns to the south, I catch no glimpse of him. MSG 10 "But he knows where I am and what I've done. He can cross-examine me all he wants, and I'll pass the test with honors. NIV 10 But he knows the way that I take; when he has tested me, I will come forth as gold. MSG 11 I've followed him closely, my feet in his footprints, not once swerving from his way. NIV 11 My feet have closely followed his steps; I have kept to his way without turning aside. MSG 12 I've obeyed every word he's spoken, and not just obeyed his advice - I've treasured it. NIV 12 I have not departed from the commands of his lips; I have treasured the words of his mouth more than my daily bread. MSG 13 "But he is singular and sovereign. Who can argue with him? He does what he wants, when he wants to. NIV 13 “But he stands alone, and who can oppose him? He does whatever he pleases. MSG 14 He'll complete in detail what he's decided about me, and whatever else he determines to do NIV 14 He carries out his decree against me, and many such plans he still has in store. MSG 15 Is it any wonder that I dread meeting him? Whenever I think about it, I get scared all over again. NIV 15 That is why I am terrified before him; when I think of all this, I fear him. MSG 16 God makes my heart sink! God Almighty gives me the shudders! NIV 16 God has made my heart faint; the Almighty has terrified me. MSG 17 I'm completely in the dark, I can't see my hand in front of my face. NIV 17 Yet I am not silenced by the darkness, by the thick darkness that covers my face.
