The Complete Jewish Bible CJB
New Living Translation NLT
1 Bildad the Shuchi said,
1
Then Bildad the Shuhite replied:
2 "Dominion and fear belong to him; he makes peace in his high places.
2
“God is powerful and dreadful. He enforces peace in the heavens.
3 Can his armies be numbered? On whom does his light not shine?
3
Who is able to count his heavenly army? Doesn’t his light shine on all the earth?
4 How then can humans be righteous with God? How can those born of women be clean?
4
How can a mortal be innocent before God? Can anyone born of a woman be pure?
5 Why, before him even the moon lacks brightness, and the stars themselves are not pure.
5
God is more glorious than the moon; he shines brighter than the stars.
6 How much less a human, who is merely a maggot, a mortal, who is only a worm?!"
6
In comparison, people are maggots; we mortals are mere worms.”
