Job 9

NCV 1 Then Job answered: NIV 1 Then Job replied: NCV 2 "Yes, I know that this is true, but how can anyone be right in the presence of God? NIV 2 “Indeed, I know that this is true. But how can mere mortals prove their innocence before God? NCV 3 Someone might want to argue with God, but no one could answer God, not one time out of a thousand. NIV 3 Though they wished to dispute with him, they could not answer him one time out of a thousand. NCV 4 God's wisdom is deep, and his power is great; no one can fight him without getting hurt. NIV 4 His wisdom is profound, his power is vast. Who has resisted him and come out unscathed? NCV 5 God moves mountains without anyone knowing it and turns them over when he is angry. NIV 5 He moves mountains without their knowing it and overturns them in his anger. NCV 6 He shakes the earth out of its place and makes its foundations tremble. NIV 6 He shakes the earth from its place and makes its pillars tremble. NCV 7 He commands the sun not to shine and shuts off the light of the stars. NIV 7 He speaks to the sun and it does not shine; he seals off the light of the stars. NCV 8 He alone stretches out the skies and walks on the waves of the sea. NIV 8 He alone stretches out the heavens and treads on the waves of the sea. NCV 9 It is God who made the Bear, Orion, and the Pleiadesn and the groups of stars in the southern sky. NIV 9 He is the Maker of the Bear and Orion, the Pleiades and the constellations of the south. NCV 10 He does wonders that cannot be understood; he does so many miracles they cannot be counted. NIV 10 He performs wonders that cannot be fathomed, miracles that cannot be counted. NCV 11 When he passes me, I cannot see him; when he goes by me, I do not recognize him. NIV 11 When he passes me, I cannot see him; when he goes by, I cannot perceive him. NCV 12 If he snatches something away, no one can stop him or say to him, 'What are you doing?' NIV 12 If he snatches away, who can stop him? Who can say to him, ‘What are you doing?’ NCV 13 God will not hold back his anger. Even the helpers of the monster Rahab lie at his feet in fear. NIV 13 God does not restrain his anger; even the cohorts of Rahab cowered at his feet. NCV 14 So how can I argue with God, or even find words to argue with him? NIV 14 “How then can I dispute with him? How can I find words to argue with him? NCV 15 Even if I were right, I could not answer him; I could only beg God, my Judge, for mercy. NIV 15 Though I were innocent, I could not answer him; I could only plead with my Judge for mercy. NCV 16 If I called to him and he answered, I still don't believe he would listen to me. NIV 16 Even if I summoned him and he responded, I do not believe he would give me a hearing. NCV 17 He would crush me with a storm and multiply my wounds for no reason. NIV 17 He would crush me with a storm and multiply my wounds for no reason. NCV 18 He would not let me catch my breath but would overwhelm me with misery. NIV 18 He would not let me catch my breath but would overwhelm me with misery. NCV 19 When it comes to strength, God is stronger than I; when it comes to justice, no one can accuse him. NIV 19 If it is a matter of strength, he is mighty! And if it is a matter of justice, who can challenge him ? NCV 20 Even if I were right, my own mouth would say I was wrong; if I were innocent, my mouth would say I was guilty. NIV 20 Even if I were innocent, my mouth would condemn me; if I were blameless, it would pronounce me guilty. NCV 21 "I am innocent, but I don't care about myself. I hate my own life. NIV 21 “Although I am blameless, I have no concern for myself; I despise my own life. NCV 22 It is all the same. That is why I say, 'God destroys both the innocent and the guilty.' NIV 22 It is all the same; that is why I say, ‘He destroys both the blameless and the wicked.’ NCV 23 If the whip brings sudden death, God will laugh at the suffering of the innocent. NIV 23 When a scourge brings sudden death, he mocks the despair of the innocent. NCV 24 When the land falls into the hands of evil people, he covers the judges' faces so they can't see it. If it is not God who does this, then who is it? NIV 24 When a land falls into the hands of the wicked, he blindfolds its judges. If it is not he, then who is it? NCV 25 "My days go by faster than a runner; they fly away without my seeing any joy. NIV 25 “My days are swifter than a runner; they fly away without a glimpse of joy. NCV 26 They glide past like paper boats. They attack like eagles swooping down to feed. NIV 26 They skim past like boats of papyrus, like eagles swooping down on their prey. NCV 27 Even though I say, 'I will forget my complaint; I will change the look on my face and smile,' NIV 27 If I say, ‘I will forget my complaint, I will change my expression, and smile,’ NCV 28 I still dread all my suffering. I know you will hold me guilty. NIV 28 I still dread all my sufferings, for I know you will not hold me innocent. NCV 29 I have already been found guilty, so why should I struggle for no reason? NIV 29 Since I am already found guilty, why should I struggle in vain? NCV 30 I might wash myself with soap and scrub my hands with strong soap, NIV 30 Even if I washed myself with soap and my hands with cleansing powder, NCV 31 but you would push me into a dirty pit, and even my clothes would hate me. NIV 31 you would plunge me into a slime pit so that even my clothes would detest me. NCV 32 "God is not a man like me, so I cannot answer him. We cannot meet each other in court. NIV 32 “He is not a mere mortal like me that I might answer him, that we might confront each other in court. NCV 33 I wish there were someone to make peace between us, someone to decide our case. NIV 33 If only there were someone to mediate between us, someone to bring us together, NCV 34 Maybe he could remove God's punishment so his terror would no longer frighten me. NIV 34 someone to remove God’s rod from me, so that his terror would frighten me no more. NCV 35 Then I could speak without being afraid, but I am not able to do that. NIV 35 Then I would speak up without fear of him, but as it now stands with me, I cannot.
