1 Oración de Jonás<br />Entonces Jonás oró al Señor<br /> su Dios desde el interior del pez

2 y dijo:<br />«En mi gran aflicción clamé al Señor<br />y él me respondió.<br />Desde la tierra de los muertos<br /> te llamé, <br />¡y tú, Señor<br />, me escuchaste!

3 Me arrojaste a las profundidades del mar<br />y me hundí en el corazón del océano.<br />Las poderosas aguas me envolvieron;<br />tus salvajes y tempestuosas olas me cubrieron.

4 Entonces dije: “Oh Señor<br />, me has expulsado de tu presencia;<br />aun así volveré a mirar hacia tu santo templo”.

5 »Me hundí bajo las olas<br />y las aguas se cerraron sobre mí;<br />las algas se enredaban en mi cabeza.

6 Me hundí hasta las raíces de las montañas.<br />Me quedé preso en la tierra,<br />cuyas puertas se cierran para siempre.<br />Pero tú, oh Señor<br /> mi Dios,<br />¡me arrebataste de las garras de la muerte!

7 Cuando la vida se me escapaba,<br />recordé al Señor<br />.<br />Elevé mi oración sincera hacia ti<br />en tu santo templo.

8 Los que rinden culto a dioses falsos<br />le dan la espalda a todas las misericordias de Dios.

9 Pero yo te ofreceré sacrificios con cantos de alabanza,<br />y cumpliré todas mis promesas.<br />Pues mi salvación viene solo del Señor<br />».

10 Entonces el Señor<br /> ordenó al pez escupir a Jonás sobre la playa.

1 From inside the fish Jonah prayed to the LORD his God.

2 He said: “In my distress I called to the LORD, and he answered me. From deep in the realm of the dead I called for help, and you listened to my cry.

3 You hurled me into the depths, into the very heart of the seas, and the currents swirled about me; all your waves and breakers swept over me.

4 I said, ‘I have been banished from your sight; yet I will look again toward your holy temple.’

5 The engulfing waters threatened me,the deep surrounded me; seaweed was wrapped around my head.

6 To the roots of the mountains I sank down; the earth beneath barred me in forever. But you, LORD my God, brought my life up from the pit.

7 “When my life was ebbing away, I remembered you, LORD, and my prayer rose to you, to your holy temple.

8 “Those who cling to worthless idols turn away from God’s love for them.

9 But I, with shouts of grateful praise, will sacrifice to you. What I have vowed I will make good. I will say, ‘Salvation comes from the LORD.’ ”

10 And the LORD commanded the fish, and it vomited Jonah onto dry land.
