1 Los jefes de las casas de los levitas se acercaron al sacerdote Eleazar, a Josué, hijo de Nun, y a los jefes de las casas de las tribus de los hijos de Israel,

2 y les hablaron en Silo en la tierra de Canaán, diciendo: El SEÑOR ordenó por medio de Moisés que se nos dieran ciudades donde habitar, con sus tierras de pasto para nuestro ganado.

3 Entonces los hijos de Israel dieron de su heredad a los levitas estas ciudades con sus tierras de pasto, de acuerdo al mandato del SEÑOR.

4 Y la suerte cayó en las familias de los coatitas. Y a los hijos del sacerdote Aarón, que eran de los levitas, les tocaron en suerte trece ciudades de la tribu de Judá, de la tribu de Simeón y de la tribu de Benjamín;

5 y al resto de los hijos de Coat les tocaron en suerte diez ciudades de las familias de la tribu de Efraín, de la tribu de Dan y de la media tribu de Manasés.

6 A los hijos de Gersón les tocaron en suerte trece ciudades de las familias de la tribu de Isacar, de la tribu de Aser, de la tribu de Neftalí y de la media tribu de Manasés en Basán.

7 A los hijos de Merari les tocaron, según sus familias, doce ciudades de la tribu de Rubén, de la tribu de Gad y de la tribu de Zabulón.

8 Y los hijos de Israel dieron por suerte a los levitas estas ciudades con sus tierras de pasto, como el SEÑOR había ordenado por medio de Moisés.

9 Les dieron estas ciudades que aquí se mencionan por nombre, de la tribu de los hijos de Judá y de la tribu de los hijos de Simeón;

10 y fueron para los hijos de Aarón, una de las familias de los coatitas, de los hijos de Leví, porque la suerte fue de ellos primero.

11 Les dieron Quiriat-arba, siendo Arba el padre de Anac, es decir, Hebrón, en la región montañosa de Judá, con las tierras de pasto alrededor.

12 Mas los campos de la ciudad y sus aldeas los dieron a Caleb, hijo de Jefone, como propiedad suya.

13 Y a los hijos del sacerdote Aarón les dieron Hebrón, la ciudad de refugio para el homicida, con sus tierras de pasto, Libna con sus tierras de pasto,

14 Jatir con sus tierras de pasto, Estemoa con sus tierras de pasto,

15 Holón con sus tierras de pasto, Debir con sus tierras de pasto,

16 Aín con sus tierras de pasto, Juta con sus tierras de pasto y Bet-semes con sus tierras de pasto; nueve ciudades de estas dos tribus.

17 Y de la tribu de Benjamín, Gabaón con sus tierras de pasto, Geba con sus tierras de pasto,

18 Anatot con sus tierras de pasto y Almón con sus tierras de pasto; cuatro ciudades.

19 Todas las ciudades de los sacerdotes, hijos de Aarón, eran trece ciudades con sus tierras de pasto.

20 Y las ciudades de la tribu de Efraín fueron dadas por suerte a las familias de los hijos de Coat, los levitas, el resto de los hijos de Coat.

21 Y les dieron Siquem, la ciudad de refugio para el homicida, con sus tierras de pasto, en la región montañosa de Efraín y Gezer con sus tierras de pasto,

22 Kibsaim con sus tierras de pasto y Bet-horón con sus tierras de pasto; cuatro ciudades.

23 Y de la tribu de Dan, Elteque con sus tierras de pasto, Gibetón con sus tierras de pasto,

24 Ajalón con sus tierras de pasto y Gat-rimón con sus tierras de pasto; cuatro ciudades.

25 Y de la media tribu de Manasés, les dieron por suertes Taanac con sus tierras de pasto y Gat-rimón con sus tierras de pasto; dos ciudades.

26 Todas las ciudades con sus tierras de pasto para las familias del resto de los hijos de Coat fueron diez.

27 Y para los hijos de Gersón, una de las familias de los levitas, de la media tribu de Manasés, les dieron Golán en Basán, la ciudad de refugio para el homicida, con sus tierras de pasto y Beestera con sus tierras de pasto; dos ciudades.

28 Y de la tribu de Isacar, les dieron Quisión con sus tierras de pasto, Daberat con sus tierras de pasto,

29 Jarmut con sus tierras de pasto y Enganim con sus tierras de pasto; cuatro ciudades.

30 Y de la tribu de Aser, les dieron Miseal con sus tierras de pasto, Abdón con sus tierras de pasto,

31 Helcat con sus tierras de pasto y Rehob con sus tierras de pasto; cuatro ciudades.

32 Y de la tribu de Neftalí, les dieron Cedes en Galilea, la ciudad de refugio para el homicida, con sus tierras de pasto, Hamot-dor con sus tierras de pasto y Cartán con sus tierras de pasto; tres ciudades.

33 Todas las ciudades de los gersonitas, conforme a sus familias, eran trece ciudades con sus tierras de pasto.

34 Y a las familias de los hijos de Merari, el resto de los levitas, les dieron de la tribu de Zabulón, Jocneam con sus tierras de pasto, Carta con sus tierras de pasto,

35 Dimna con sus tierras de pasto y Naalal con sus tierras de pasto; cuatro ciudades.

36 Y de la tribu de Rubén, les dieron Beser con sus tierras de pasto, Jahaza con sus tierras de pasto,

37 Cademot con sus tierras de pasto y Mefaat con sus tierras de pasto; cuatro ciudades.

38 Y de la tribu de Gad, les dieron Ramot en Galaad, la ciudad de refugio para el homicida, con sus tierras de pasto, Mahanaim con sus tierras de pasto,

39 Hesbón con sus tierras de pasto y Jazer con sus tierras de pasto; cuatro ciudades en total.

40 Todas estas fueron las ciudades de los hijos de Merari conforme a sus familias, el resto de las familias de los levitas y su suerte fue doce ciudades.

41 Todas las ciudades de los levitas en medio de la posesión de los hijos de Israel fueron cuarenta y ocho ciudades con sus tierras de pasto.

42 Cada una de estas ciudades tenía sus tierras de pasto alrededor; así fue con todas estas ciudades.

43 De esa manera el SEÑOR dio a Israel toda la tierra que había jurado dar a sus padres, y la poseyeron y habitaron en ella.

44 Y el SEÑOR les dio reposo en derredor, conforme a todo lo que había jurado a sus padres; y ninguno de sus enemigos pudo hacerles frente; el SEÑOR entregó a todos sus enemigos en sus manos.

45 No faltó ni una palabra de las buenas promesas que el SEÑOR había hecho a la casa de Israel; todas se cumplieron.

1 The ancestral heads of the Levites came to Eleazar the priest and Joshua son of Nun and to the heads of the other tribes of the People of Israel.

2 This took place at Shiloh in the land of Canaan. They said, "God commanded through Moses that you give us cities to live in with access to pastures for our cattle."

3 So the People of Israel, out of their own inheritance, gave the Levites, just as God commanded, the following cities and pastures:

4 The lot came out for the families of the Kohathites this way: Levites descended from Aaron the priest received by lot thirteen cities out of the tribes of Judah, Simeon, and Benjamin.

5 The rest of the Kohathites received by lot ten cities from the families of the tribes of Ephraim, Dan, and the half-tribe of Manasseh.

6 The Gershonites received by lot thirteen cities from the families of the tribes of Issachar, Asher, Naphtali, and the half-tribe of Manasseh in Bashan.

7 The families of the Merarites received twelve towns from the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and Zebulun.

8 So the People of Israel gave these cities with their pastures to the Levites just as God had ordered through Moses, that is, by lot.

9 They assigned from the tribes of Judah, Simeon, and Benjamin the following towns, here named individually

10 (these were for the descendants of Aaron who were from the families of the Kohathite branch of Levi because the first lot fell to them):

11 Kiriath Arba (Arba was the ancestor of Anak), that is, Hebron, in the hills of Judah, with access to the pastures around it.

12 The fields of the city and its open lands they had already given to Caleb son of Jephunneh as his possession.

13 To the descendants of Aaron the priest they gave Hebron (the asylum-city for the unconvicted killers), Libnah,

14 Jattir, Eshtemoa

15 , Holon, Debir

16 , Ain, Juttah, and Beth Shemesh, all with their accompanying pastures - nine towns from these two tribes.

17 And from the tribe of Benjamin: Gibeon, Geba,

18 Anathoth, and Almon, together with their pastures - four towns.

19 The total for the cities and pastures for the priests descended from Aaron came to thirteen.

20 The rest of the Kohathite families from the tribe of Levi were assigned their cities by lot from the tribe of Ephraim:

21 Shechem (the asylum-city for the unconvicted killer) in the hills of Ephraim, Gezer,

22 Kibzaim, and Beth Horon, with their pastures - four towns.

23 From the tribe of Dan they received Eltekeh, Gibbethon,

24 Aijalon, and Gath Rimmon, all with their pastures - four towns.

25 And from the half-tribe of Manasseh they received Taanach and Gath Rimmon with their pastures - two towns.

26 All told, ten cities with their pastures went to the remaining Kohathite families.

27 The Gershonite families of the tribe of Levi were given from the half-tribe of Manasseh: Golan in Bashan (an asylum-city for the unconvicted killer), and Be Eshtarah, with their pastures - two cities.

28 And from the tribe of Issachar: Kishion, Daberath,

29 Jarmuth, and En Gannim, with their pastures - four towns.

30 From the tribe of Asher: Mishal, Abdon,

31 Helkath, and Rehob, with their pastures - four towns.

32 From the tribe of Naphtali: Kedesh in Galilee (an asylum-city for the unconvicted killer), Hammoth Dor, and Kartan, with their pastures - three towns.

33 For the Gershonites and their families: thirteen towns with their pastures.

34 The Merari families, the remaining Levites, were given from the tribe of Zebulun: Jokneam, Kartah,

35 Dimnah, and Nahalal, with their pastures - four cities.

36 From the tribe of Reuben: Bezer, Jahaz,

37 Kedemoth, and Mephaath, with their pastures - four towns.

38 From the tribe of Gad: Ramoth in Gilead (an asylum-city for the unconvicted killer), Mahanaim,

39 Heshbon, and Jazer, with their pastures - a total of four towns.

40 All these towns were assigned by lot to the Merarites, the remaining Levites - twelve towns.

41 The Levites held forty-eight towns with their accompanying pastures within the territory of the People of Israel.

42 Each of these towns had pastures surrounding it - this was the case for all these towns.

43 And so God gave Israel the entire land that he had solemnly vowed to give to their ancestors. They took possession of it and made themselves at home in it.

44 And God gave them rest on all sides, as he had also solemnly vowed to their ancestors. Not a single one of their enemies was able to stand up to them - God handed over all their enemies to them.

45 Not one word failed from all the good words God spoke to the house of Israel. Everything came out right.
