1 Y aconteció muchos días después de haber dado el SEÑOR reposo a Israel de todos sus enemigos de alrededor, siendo Josué ya viejo y avanzado en años,

2 que Josué llamó a todo Israel, a sus ancianos, a sus jefes, a sus jueces y a sus oficiales, y les dijo: Yo ya soy viejo y avanzado en años.

3 Y vosotros habéis visto todo lo que el SEÑOR vuestro Dios ha hecho a todas estas naciones por causa de vosotros, porque el SEÑOR vuestro Dios es quien ha peleado por vosotros.

4 Mirad, os he asignado por suerte, como heredad para vuestras tribus, estas naciones que aún quedan junto con todas las naciones que he destruido, desde el Jordán hasta el mar Grande, hacia la puesta del sol

5 Y el SEÑOR vuestro Dios las echará de delante de vosotros y las expulsará de vuestra presencia; y vosotros poseeréis su tierra, tal como el SEÑOR vuestro Dios os ha prometido.

6 Esforzaos, pues, en guardar y en hacer todo lo que está escrito en el libro de la ley de Moisés, para que no os apartéis de ella ni a la derecha ni a la izquierda,

7 a fin de que no os juntéis con estas naciones, las que quedan entre vosotros. No mencionéis el nombre de sus dioses, ni hagáis a nadie jurar por ellos, ni los sirváis, ni os inclinéis ante ellos,

8 sino que al SEÑOR vuestro Dios os allegaréis, como lo habéis hecho hasta hoy.

9 Porque el SEÑOR ha expulsado a naciones grandes y poderosas de delante de vosotros; y en cuanto a vosotros, nadie os ha podido hacer frente hasta hoy.

10 Un solo hombre de vosotros hace huir a mil, porque el SEÑOR vuestro Dios es quien pelea por vosotros, tal como El os ha prometido.

11 Tened sumo cuidado, por vuestra vida, de amar al SEÑOR vuestro Dios.

12 Porque si os volvéis, y os unís al resto de estos pueblos que permanecen entre vosotros, y contraéis matrimonio con ellos, y os juntáis con ellos, y ellos con vosotros,

13 ciertamente sabed que el SEÑOR vuestro Dios no continuará expulsando a estas naciones de delante de vosotros, sino que serán como lazo y trampa para vosotros, como azote en vuestros costados y como espinas en vuestros ojos, hasta que perezcáis de sobre esta buena tierra que el SEÑOR vuestro Dios os ha dado.

14 He aquí, hoy me voy por el camino de toda la tierra, y vosotros sabéis con todo vuestro corazón y con toda vuestra alma que ninguna de las buenas palabras que el SEÑOR vuestro Dios habló acerca de vosotros ha faltado; todas os han sido cumplidas, ninguna de ellas ha faltado

15 Y sucederá que así como han venido sobre vosotros todas las buenas palabras que el SEÑOR vuestro Dios os habló, de la misma manera el SEÑOR traerá sobre vosotros toda amenaza, hasta que os haya destruido de sobre esta buena tierra que el SEÑOR vuestro Dios os ha dado.

16 Cuando quebrantéis el pacto que el SEÑOR vuestro Dios os ordenó, y vayáis y sirváis a otros dioses, y os inclinéis ante ellos, entonces la ira del SEÑOR se encenderá contra vosotros, y pereceréis prontamente de sobre esta buena tierra que El os ha dado.

1 A long time later, after God had given Israel rest from all their surrounding enemies, and Joshua was a venerable old man,

2 Joshua called all Israel together - elders, chiefs, judges, and officers. Then he spoke to them:

3 You have seen everything that God has done to these nations because of you. He did it because he's God, your God. He fought for you.

4 "Stay alert: I have assigned to you by lot these nations that remain as an inheritance to your tribes - these in addition to the nations I have already cut down - from the Jordan to the Great Sea in the west

5 God, your God, will drive them out of your path until there's nothing left of them and you'll take over their land just as God, your God, promised you.

6 "Now, stay strong and steady. Obediently do everything written in the Book of The Revelation of Moses - don't miss a detail.

7 Don't get mixed up with the nations that are still around. Don't so much as speak the names of their gods or swear by them. And by all means don't worship or pray to them.

8 Hold tight to God, your God, just as you've done up to now.

9 "God has driven out superpower nations before you. And up to now, no one has been able to stand up to you.

10 Think of it - one of you, single-handedly, putting a thousand on the run! Because God is God, your God. Because he fights for you, just as he promised you.

11 "Now, vigilantly guard your souls: Love God, your God.

12 Because if you wander off and start taking up with these remaining nations still among you (intermarry, say, and have other dealings with them),

13 know for certain that God, your God, will not get rid of these nations for you. They'll be nothing but trouble to you - horsewhips on your backs and sand in your eyes - until you're the ones who will be driven out of this good land that God, your God, has given you.

14 "As you can see, I'm about to go the way we all end up going. Know this with all your heart, with everything in you, that not one detail has failed of all the good things God, your God, promised you. It has all happened. Nothing's left undone - not so much as a word

15 "But just as sure as everything good that God, your God, has promised has come true, so also God will bring to pass every bad thing until there's nothing left of you in this good land that God has given you.

16 If you leave the path of the Covenant of God, your God, that he commanded you, go off and serve and worship other gods, God's anger will blaze out against you. In no time at all there'll be nothing left of you, no sign that you've ever been in this good land he gave you."
