1 Y Josué se levantó muy de mañana; y él y todos los hijos de Israel partieron de Sitim y llegaron al Jordán, y acamparon allí antes de cruzar.

2 Y sucedió que al cabo de tres días los oficiales pasaron por medio del campamento;

3 y dieron órdenes al pueblo, diciendo: Cuando veáis el arca del pacto del SEÑOR vuestro Dios y a los sacerdotes levitas llevándola, partiréis de vuestro lugar y la seguiréis.

4 Sin embargo, dejaréis entre vosotros y ella una distancia de unos dos mil codos . No os acerquéis a ella para saber el camino por donde debéis ir, porque no habéis pasado antes por este camino.

5 Entonces Josué dijo al pueblo: Consagraos, porque mañana el SEÑOR hará maravillas entre vosotros.

6 Y habló Josué a los sacerdotes, diciendo: Tomad el arca del pacto y pasad delante del pueblo. Y ellos tomaron el arca del pacto y fueron delante del pueblo.

7 Y el SEÑOR dijo a Josué: Hoy comenzaré a exaltarte a los ojos de todo Israel, para que sepan que tal como estuve con Moisés, estaré contigo.

8 Además, ordenarás a los sacerdotes que llevan el arca del pacto, diciendo: "Cuando lleguéis a la orilla de las aguas del Jordán, os detendréis en el Jordán."

9 Entonces Josué dijo a los hijos de Israel: Acercaos y oíd las palabras del SEÑOR vuestro Dios.

10 Y Josué añadió: En esto conoceréis que el Dios vivo está entre vosotros, y que ciertamente expulsará de delante de vosotros a los cananeos, a los heteos, a los heveos, a los ferezeos, a los gergeseos, a los amorreos y a los jebuseos.

11 He aquí, el arca del pacto del Señor de toda la tierra va a pasar el Jordán delante de vosotros.

12 Ahora pues, tomad doce hombres de las tribus de Israel, un hombre de cada tribu.

13 Y sucederá que cuando las plantas de los pies de los sacerdotes que llevan el arca del SEÑOR, el Señor de toda la tierra, se asienten en las aguas del Jordán, las aguas del Jordán quedarán cortadas, y las aguas que fluyen de arriba se detendrán en un montón.

14 Y aconteció que cuando el pueblo salió de sus tiendas para pasar el Jordán con los sacerdotes llevando el arca del pacto delante del pueblo,

15 y cuando los que llevaban el arca entraron en el Jordán y los pies de los sacerdotes que llevaban el arca se mojaron en la orilla del agua (porque el Jordán se desborda por todas sus riberas todos los días de la cosecha),

16 las aguas que venían de arriba se detuvieron y se elevaron en un montón, a una gran distancia en Adam, la ciudad que está al lado de Saretán; y las que descendían hacia el mar de Arabá, el mar Salado, fueron cortadas completamente. Y el pueblo pasó frente a Jericó.

17 Y los sacerdotes que llevaban el arca del pacto del SEÑOR estuvieron en tierra seca en medio del Jordán mientras que todo Israel cruzaba sobre tierra seca, hasta que todo el pueblo acabó de pasar el Jordán.

1 Joshua was up early and on his way from Shittim with all the People of Israel with him. He arrived at the Jordan and camped before crossing over.

2 After three days, leaders went through the camp

3 and gave out orders to the people: "When you see the Covenant-Chest of God, your God, carried by the Levitical priests, start moving. Follow it.

4 Make sure you keep a proper distance between you and it, about half a mile - be sure now to keep your distance! - and you'll see clearly the route to take. You've never been on this road before."

5 Then Joshua addressed the people: "Sanctify yourselves. Tomorrow God will work miracle-wonders among you."

6 Joshua instructed the priests, "Take up the Chest of the Covenant and step out before the people." So they took it up and processed before the people.

7 God said to Joshua, "This very day I will begin to make you great in the eyes of all Israel. They'll see for themselves that I'm with you in the same way that I was with Moses.

8 You will command the priests who are carrying the Chest of the Covenant: 'When you come to the edge of the Jordan's waters, stand there on the river bank.'"

9 Then Joshua addressed the People of Israel: "Attention! Listen to what God, your God, has to say.

10 This is how you'll know that God is alive among you - he will completely dispossess before you the Canaanites, Hittites, Hivites, Perizzites, Girgashites, Amorites, and Jebusites.

11 Look at what's before you: the Chest of the Covenant. Think of it - the Master of the entire earth is crossing the Jordan as you watch.

12 Now take twelve men from the tribes of Israel, one man from each tribe.

13 When the soles of the feet of the priests carrying the Chest of God, Master of all the earth, touch the Jordan's water, the flow of water will be stopped - the water coming from upstream will pile up in a heap."

14 And that's what happened. The people left their tents to cross the Jordan, led by the priests carrying the Chest of the Covenant.

15 When the priests got to the Jordan and their feet touched the water at the edge (the Jordan overflows its banks throughout the harvest),

16 the flow of water stopped. It piled up in a heap - a long way off - at Adam, which is near Zarethan. The river went dry all the way down to the Arabah Sea (the Salt Sea). And the people crossed, facing Jericho.

17 And there they stood; those priests carrying the Chest of the Covenant stood firmly planted on dry ground in the middle of the Jordan while all Israel crossed on dry ground. Finally the whole nation was across the Jordan, and not one wet foot.
