1 Había un hombre de la región montañosa de Efraín, llamado Micaía.

There was a man from the hill country of Ephraim named Micah.
2 Y él dijo a su madre: Las mil cien piezas de plata que te quitaron, acerca de las cuales proferiste una maldición a mis oídos, he aquí, la plata está en mi poder; yo la tomé. Y su madre dijo: Bendito sea mi hijo por el SEÑOR.

He said to his mother, "Remember that 1,100 pieces of silver that were taken from you? I overheard you when you pronounced your curse. Well, I have the money; I stole it. But now I've brought it back to you." His mother said, "God bless you, my son!"
3 Entonces él devolvió las mil cien piezas de plata a su madre, y su madre dijo: Yo de corazón dedico la plata de mi mano al SEÑOR por mi hijo, para hacer una imagen tallada y una de fundición; ahora, por tanto, yo te las devuelvo.

As he returned the 1,100 silver pieces to his mother, she said, "I had totally consecrated this money to God for my son to make a statue, a cast god."
4 Cuando él devolvió la plata a su madre, su madre tomó doscientas piezas de plata y se las dio al platero que las convirtió en una imagen tallada y una de fundición, y quedaron en casa de Micaía.

Then she took 200 pieces of the silver and gave it to a sculptor and he cast them into the form of a god.
5 Y este hombre Micaía tenía un santuario , e hizo un efod e ídolos domésticos , y consagró a uno de sus hijos para que fuera su sacerdote.

This man, Micah, had a private chapel. He had made an ephod and some teraphim-idols and had ordained one of his sons to be his priest.
6 En aquellos días no había rey en Israel; cada uno hacía lo que a sus ojos le parecía bien.

In those days there was no king in Israel. People did whatever they felt like doing.
7 Y había un joven de Belén de Judá, de la familia de Judá, que era levita y forastero allí.

Meanwhile there was a young man from Bethlehem in Judah and from a family of Judah. He was a Levite but was a stranger there.
8 Y el hombre salió de la ciudad, de Belén de Judá, para residir donde encontrara lugar; y mientras proseguía su camino, llegó a la región montañosa de Efraín, a la casa de Micaía.

He left that town, Bethlehem in Judah, seeking his fortune. He got as far as the hill country of Ephraim and showed up at Micah's house.
9 Y Micaía le dijo: ¿De dónde vienes? Y él le respondió: Soy un levita de Belén de Judá; y voy a residir donde encuentre lugar.

Micah asked him, "So where are you from?" He said, "I'm a Levite from Bethlehem in Judah. I'm on the road, looking for a place to settle down."
10 Entonces Micaía le dijo: Quédate conmigo y sé padre y sacerdote para mí, y yo te daré diez piezas de plata por año, el vestido y la comida. Y el levita entró.

Micah said, "Stay here with me. Be my father and priest. I'll pay you ten pieces of silver a year, whatever clothes you need, and your meals."
11 Consintió el levita en quedarse con el hombre; y el joven fue para él como uno de sus hijos.

The Levite agreed and moved in with Micah. The young man fit right in and became one of the family.
12 Micaía consagró al levita, y el joven vino a ser su sacerdote, y moró en la casa de Micaía.

Micah appointed the young Levite as his priest. This all took place in Micah's home.
13 Y Micaía dijo: Ahora sé que el SEÑOR me prosperará, porque tengo un levita por sacerdote.

Micah said, "Now I know that God will make things go well for me - why, I've got a Levite for a priest!"
