Leviticus 1

GNT 1 The Lord called to Moses from the Tent of the Lord's presence and gave him the following rules NIV 1 The LORD called to Moses and spoke to him from the tent of meeting. He said, GNT 2 for the Israelites to observe when they offer their sacrifices. When you offer an animal sacrifice, it may be one of your cattle or one of your sheep or goats. NIV 2 “Speak to the Israelites and say to them: ‘When anyone among you brings an offering to the LORD, bring as your offering an animal from either the herd or the flock. GNT 3 If you are offering one of your cattle as a burnt offering, you must bring a bull without any defects. You must present it at the entrance of the Tent of the Lord's presence so that the Lord will accept you. NIV 3 “ ‘If the offering is a burnt offering from the herd, you are to offer a male without defect. You must present it at the entrance to the tent of meeting so that it will be acceptable to the LORD. GNT 4 You shall put your hand on its head, and it will be accepted as a sacrifice to take away your sins. NIV 4 You are to lay your hand on the head of the burnt offering, and it will be accepted on your behalf to make atonement for you. GNT 5 You shall kill the bull there, and the Aaronite priests shall present the blood to the Lord and then throw it against all four sides of the altar located at the entrance of the Tent. NIV 5 You are to slaughter the young bull before the LORD, and then Aaron’s sons the priests shall bring the blood and splash it against the sides of the altar at the entrance to the tent of meeting. GNT 6 Then you shall skin the animal and cut it up, NIV 6 You are to skin the burnt offering and cut it into pieces. GNT 7 and the priests shall arrange firewood on the altar and light it. NIV 7 The sons of Aaron the priest are to put fire on the altar and arrange wood on the fire. GNT 8 They shall put on the fire the pieces of the animal, including the head and the fat. NIV 8 Then Aaron’s sons the priests shall arrange the pieces, including the head and the fat, on the wood that is burning on the altar. GNT 9 You must wash the internal organs and the hind legs, and the officiating priest will burn the whole sacrifice on the altar. The odor of this food offering is pleasing to the Lord. NIV 9 You are to wash the internal organs and the legs with water, and the priest is to burn all of it on the altar. It is a burnt offering, a food offering, an aroma pleasing to the LORD. GNT 10 If you are offering one of your sheep or goats, it must be a male without any defects. NIV 10 “ ‘If the offering is a burnt offering from the flock, from either the sheep or the goats, you are to offer a male without defect. GNT 11 You shall kill it on the north side of the altar, and the priests shall throw its blood on all four sides of the altar. NIV 11 You are to slaughter it at the north side of the altar before the LORD, and Aaron’s sons the priests shall splash its blood against the sides of the altar. GNT 12 After you cut it up, the officiating priest shall put on the fire all the parts, including the head and the fat. NIV 12 You are to cut it into pieces, and the priest shall arrange them, including the head and the fat, on the wood that is burning on the altar. GNT 13 You must wash the internal organs and the hind legs, and the priest will present the sacrifice to the Lord and burn all of it on the altar. The odor of this food offering is pleasing to the Lord. NIV 13 You are to wash the internal organs and the legs with water, and the priest is to bring all of them and burn them on the altar. It is a burnt offering, a food offering, an aroma pleasing to the LORD. GNT 14 If you are offering a bird as a burnt offering, it must be a dove or a pigeon. NIV 14 “ ‘If the offering to the LORD is a burnt offering of birds, you are to offer a dove or a young pigeon. GNT 15 The priest shall present it at the altar, wring its neck, and burn its head on the altar. Its blood shall be drained out against the side of the altar. NIV 15 The priest shall bring it to the altar, wring off the head and burn it on the altar; its blood shall be drained out on the side of the altar. GNT 16 He shall remove the crop and its contents and throw them away on the east side of the altar where the ashes are put. NIV 16 He is to remove the crop and the feathers and throw them down east of the altar where the ashes are. GNT 17 He shall take hold of its wings and tear its body open, without tearing the wings off, and then burn it whole on the altar. The odor of this food offering is pleasing to the Lord. NIV 17 He shall tear it open by the wings, not dividing it completely, and then the priest shall burn it on the wood that is burning on the altar. It is a burnt offering, a food offering, an aroma pleasing to the LORD.
