1 Y poco después, El comenzó a recorrer las ciudades y aldeas, proclamando y anunciando las buenas nuevas del reino de Dios; con El iban los doce,

2 y también algunas mujeres que habían sido sanadas de espíritus malos y de enfermedades: María, llamada Magdalena, de la que habían salido siete demonios,

3 y Juana, mujer de Chuza, mayordomo de Herodes, y Susana, y muchas otras que de sus bienes personales contribuían al sostenimiento de ellos.

4 Habiéndose congregado una gran multitud, y los que de varias ciudades acudían a El, les habló por parábola:

5 El sembrador salió a sembrar su semilla; y al sembrarla, una parte cayó junto al camino, y fue pisoteada y las aves del cielo se la comieron.

6 Otra parte cayó sobre la roca, y tan pronto como creció, se secó, porque no tenía humedad.

7 Otra parte cayó en medio de los espinos; y los espinos, al crecer con ella, la ahogaron.

8 Y otra parte cayó en tierra buena, y creció y produjo una cosecha a ciento por uno. Y al hablar estas cosas, Jesús exclamaba: El que tiene oídos para oír, que oiga.

9 Sus discípulos le preguntaban qué quería decir esta parábola,

10 y El dijo: A vosotros se os ha concedido conocer los misterios del reino de Dios, pero a los demás les hablo en parábolas, para que VIENDO, NO VEAN; Y OYENDO, NO ENTIENDAN.

11 La parábola es ésta: la semilla es la palabra de Dios.

12 Y aquéllos a lo largo del camino son los que han oído, pero después viene el diablo y arrebata la palabra de sus corazones, para que no crean y se salven.

13 Y aquéllos sobre la roca son los que, cuando oyen, reciben la palabra con gozo; pero éstos no tienen raíz profunda; creen por algún tiempo, y en el momento de la tentación sucumben.

14 Y la semilla que cayó entre los espinos, éstos son los que han oído, y al continuar su camino son ahogados por las preocupaciones, las riquezas y los placeres de la vida, y su fruto no madura.

15 Pero la semilla en la tierra buena, éstos son los que han oído la palabra con corazón recto y bueno, y la retienen, y dan fruto con su perseverancia.

16 Nadie enciende una lámpara y la cubre con una vasija, o la pone debajo de una cama, sino que la pone sobre un candelero para que los que entren vean la luz.

17 Pues no hay nada oculto que no haya de ser manifiesto, ni secreto que no haya de ser conocido y salga a la luz.

18 Por tanto, tened cuidado de cómo oís; porque al que tiene, más le será dado; y al que no tiene, aun lo que cree que tiene se le quitará.

19 Entonces su madre y sus hermanos llegaron a donde El estaba, pero no podían acercarse a El debido al gentío.

20 Y le avisaron: Tu madre y tus hermanos están afuera y quieren verte.

21 Pero respondiendo El, les dijo: Mi madre y mis hermanos son estos que oyen la palabra de Dios y la hacen.

22 Y uno de aquellos días, entró en una barca con sus discípulos, y les dijo: Pasemos al otro lado del lago. Y se hicieron a la mar.

23 Pero mientras ellos navegaban, El se durmió; y una violenta tempestad descendió sobre el lago, y comenzaron a anegarse y corrían peligro.

24 Y llegándose a El, le despertaron, diciendo: ¡Maestro, Maestro, que perecemos! Y El, levantándose, reprendió al viento y a las olas embravecidas, y cesaron y sobrevino la calma.

25 Y El les dijo: ¿Dónde está vuestra fe? Pero ellos estaban atemorizados y asombrados, diciéndose unos a otros: ¿Quién, pues, es éste que aun a los vientos y al agua manda y le obedecen?

26 Navegaron hacia la tierra de los gadarenos que está al lado opuesto de Galilea;

27 y cuando El bajó a tierra, le salió al encuentro un hombre de la ciudad poseído por demonios, y que por mucho tiempo no se había puesto ropa alguna, ni vivía en una casa, sino en los sepulcros.

28 Al ver a Jesús, gritó y cayó delante de El, y dijo en alta voz: ¿Qué tengo yo que ver contigo, Jesús, Hijo del Dios Altísimo? Te ruego que no me atormentes.

29 Porque El mandaba al espíritu inmundo que saliera del hombre, pues muchas veces se había apoderado de él, y estaba atado con cadenas y grillos y bajo guardia; a pesar de todo rompía las ataduras y era impelido por el demonio a los desiertos.

30 Entonces Jesús le preguntó: ¿Cómo te llamas? Y él dijo: Legión; porque muchos demonios habían entrado en él.

31 Y le rogaban que no les ordenara irse al abismo.

32 Y había una piara de muchos cerdos paciendo allí en el monte; y los demonios le rogaron que les permitiera entrar en los cerdos. Y El les dio permiso.

33 Los demonios salieron del hombre y entraron en los cerdos; y la piara se precipitó por el despeñadero al lago, y se ahogaron.

34 Y cuando los que los cuidaban vieron lo que había sucedido, huyeron y lo contaron en la ciudad y por los campos.

35 Salió entonces la gente a ver qué había sucedido; y vinieron a Jesús, y encontraron al hombre de quien habían salido los demonios, sentado a los pies de Jesús, vestido y en su cabal juicio, y se llenaron de temor.

36 Y los que lo habían visto, les contaron cómo el que estaba endemoniado había sido sanado.

37 Entonces toda la gente de la región alrededor de los gadarenos le pidió a Jesús que se alejara de ellos, porque estaban poseídos de un gran temor. Y El entrando a una barca, regresó.

38 Pero el hombre de quien habían salido los demonios le rogaba que le permitiera acompañarle; mas El lo despidió, diciendo:

39 Vuelve a tu casa, y cuenta cuán grandes cosas Dios ha hecho por ti. Y él se fue, proclamando por toda la ciudad cuán grandes cosas Jesús había hecho por él.

40 Cuando Jesús volvió, la multitud le recibió con gozo, porque todos le habían estado esperando.

41 Y he aquí, llegó un hombre llamado Jairo, que era un oficial de la sinagoga; y cayendo a los pies de Jesús le rogaba que entrara a su casa;

42 porque tenía una hija única, como de doce años, que estaba al borde de la muerte. Pero mientras El iba, la muchedumbre le apretaba.

43 Y una mujer que había tenido un flujo de sangre por doce años y que había gastado en médicos todo cuanto tenía y no podía ser curada por nadie,

44 se acercó a Jesús por detrás y tocó el borde de su manto, y al instante cesó el flujo de su sangre.

45 Y Jesús dijo: ¿Quién es el que me ha tocado? Mientras todos lo negaban, Pedro dijo, y los que con él estaban: Maestro, las multitudes te aprietan y te oprimen.

46 Pero Jesús dijo: Alguien me tocó, porque me di cuenta que de mí había salido poder.

47 Al ver la mujer que ella no había pasado inadvertida, se acercó temblando, y cayendo delante de El, declaró en presencia de todo el pueblo la razón por la cual le había tocado, y cómo al instante había sido sanada.

48 Y El le dijo: Hija, tu fe te ha sanado; vete en paz.

49 Mientras estaba todavía hablando, vino<***> alguien de la casa del oficial de la sinagoga, diciendo: Tu hija ha muerto; no molestes más al Maestro.

50 Pero cuando Jesús lo oyó, le respondió: No temas; cree solamente, y ella será sanada.

51 Y cuando El llegó a la casa, no permitió que nadie entrara con El sino sólo Pedro, Juan y Jacobo , y el padre y la madre de la muchacha.

52 Todos la lloraban y se lamentaban; pero El dijo: No lloréis, porque no ha muerto, sino que duerme.

53 Y se burlaban de El, sabiendo que ella había muerto.

54 Pero El, tomándola de la mano, clamó, diciendo: ¡Niña, levántate!

55 Entonces le volvió su espíritu, y se levantó al instante, y El mandó que le dieran de comer.

56 Y sus padres estaban asombrados; pero El les encargó que no dijeran a nadie lo que había sucedido.

The Message Bible MSG

1 He continued according to plan, traveled to town after town, village after village, preaching God's kingdom, spreading the Message. The Twelve were with him.

2 There were also some women in their company who had been healed of various evil afflictions and illnesses: Mary, the one called Magdalene, from whom seven demons had gone out;

3 Joanna, wife of Chuza, Herod's manager; and Susanna - along with many others who used their considerable means to provide for the company.

4 As they went from town to town, a lot of people joined in and traveled along. He addressed them, using this story:

5 "A farmer went out to sow his seed. Some of it fell on the road; it was tramped down and the birds ate it.

6 Other seed fell in the gravel; it sprouted, but withered because it didn't have good roots.

7 Other seed fell in the weeds; the weeds grew with it and strangled it.

8 Other seed fell in rich earth and produced a bumper crop. "Are you listening to this? Really listening?"

9 His disciples asked, "Why did you tell this story?"

10 He said, "You've been given insight into God's kingdom - you know how it works. There are others who need stories. But even with stories some of them aren't going to get it: Their eyes are open but don't see a thing, Their ears are open but don't hear a thing.

11 "This story is about some of those people. The seed is the Word of God.

12 The seeds on the road are those who hear the Word, but no sooner do they hear it than the Devil snatches it from them so they won't believe and be saved.

13 "The seeds in the gravel are those who hear with enthusiasm, but the enthusiasm doesn't go very deep. It's only another fad, and the moment there's trouble it's gone.

14 "And the seed that fell in the weeds - well, these are the ones who hear, but then the seed is crowded out and nothing comes of it as they go about their lives worrying about tomorrow, making money, and having fun.

15 "But the seed in the good earth - these are the good-hearts who seize the Word and hold on no matter what, sticking with it until there's a harvest.

16 "No one lights a lamp and then covers it with a washtub or shoves it under the bed. No, you set it up on a lamp stand so those who enter the room can see their way.

17 We're not keeping secrets; we're telling them. We're not hiding things; we're bringing everything out into the open.

18 So be careful that you don't become misers of what you hear. Generosity begets generosity. Stinginess impoverishes."

19 His mother and brothers showed up but couldn't get through to him because of the crowd.

20 He was given the message, "Your mother and brothers are standing outside wanting to see you."

21 He replied, "My mother and brothers are the ones who hear and do God's Word. Obedience is thicker than blood."

22 One day he and his disciples got in a boat. "Let's cross the lake," he said. And off they went.

23 It was smooth sailing, and he fell asleep. A terrific storm came up suddenly on the lake. Water poured in, and they were about to capsize.

24 They woke Jesus: "Master, Master, we're going to drown!" Getting to his feet, he told the wind, "Silence!" and the waves, "Quiet down!" They did it. The lake became smooth as glass.

25 Then he said to his disciples, "Why can't you trust me?" They were in absolute awe, staggered and stammering, "Who is this, anyway? He calls out to the winds and sea, and they do what he tells them!"

26 They sailed on to the country of the Gerasenes, directly opposite Galilee.

27 As he stepped out onto land, a madman from town met him; he was a victim of demons. He hadn't worn clothes for a long time, nor lived at home; he lived in the cemetery.

28 When he saw Jesus he screamed, fell before him, and bellowed, "What business do you have messing with me? You're Jesus, Son of the High God, but don't give me a hard time!"

29 (The man said this because Jesus had started to order the unclean spirit out of him.) Time after time the demon threw the man into convulsions. He had been placed under constant guard and tied with chains and shackles, but crazed and driven wild by the demon, he would shatter the bonds.

30 Jesus asked him, "What is your name?"

31 And they begged Jesus desperately not to order them to the bottomless pit.

32 A large herd of pigs was browsing and rooting on a nearby hill. The demons begged Jesus to order them into the pigs. He gave the order.

33 It was even worse for the pigs than for the man. Crazed, they stampeded over a cliff into the lake and drowned.

34 Those tending the pigs, scared to death, bolted and told their story in town and country.

35 People went out to see what had happened. They came to Jesus and found the man from whom the demons had been sent, sitting there at Jesus' feet, wearing decent clothes and making sense. It was a holy moment, and for a short time they were more reverent than curious.

36 Then those who had seen it happen told how the demoniac had been saved.

37 Later, a great many people from the Gerasene countryside got together and asked Jesus to leave - too much change, too fast, and they were scared. So Jesus got back in the boat and set off.

38 The man whom he had delivered from the demons asked to go with him, but he sent him back, saying,

39 "Go home and tell everything God did in you." So he went back and preached all over town everything Jesus had done in him.

40 On his return, Jesus was welcomed by a crowd. They were all there expecting him.

41 A man came up, Jairus by name. He was president of the meeting place. He fell at Jesus' feet and begged him to come to his home

42 because his twelve-year-old daughter, his only child, was dying. Jesus went with him, making his way through the pushing, jostling crowd.

43 In the crowd that day there was a woman who for twelve years had been afflicted with hemorrhages. She had spent every penny she had on doctors but not one had been able to help her.

44 She slipped in from behind and touched the edge of Jesus' robe. At that very moment her hemorrhaging stopped.

45 Jesus said, "Who touched me?" When no one stepped forward, Peter said, "But Master, we've got crowds of people on our hands. Dozens have touched you."

46 Jesus insisted, "Someone touched me. I felt power discharging from me."

47 When the woman realized that she couldn't remain hidden, she knelt trembling before him. In front of all the people, she blurted out her story - why she touched him and how at that same moment she was healed.

48 Jesus said, "Daughter, you took a risk trusting me, and now you're healed and whole. Live well, live blessed!"

49 While he was still talking, someone from the leader's house came up and told him, "Your daughter died. No need now to bother the Teacher."

50 Jesus overheard and said, "Don't be upset. Just trust me and everything will be all right."

51 Going into the house, he wouldn't let anyone enter with him except Peter, John, James, and the child's parents.

52 Everyone was crying and carrying on over her. Jesus said, "Don't cry. She didn't die; she's sleeping."

53 They laughed at him. They knew she was dead.

54 Then Jesus, gripping her hand, called, "My dear child, get up."

55 She was up in an instant, up and breathing again! He told them to give her something to eat.

56 Her parents were ecstatic, but Jesus warned them to keep quiet. "Don't tell a soul what happened in this room."
